Fox Business host Asman's Weiner-Goldline “gotcha” backfires

Fox Business' David Asman had a “gotcha” question backfire today during an extremely combative interview with Rep. Andrew Weiner (D-NY) over the congressman's investigation of Goldline international's use of “conservative rhetoric, high pressure sales tactics and tall tales about the future of gold to sell over priced coins that can be bought somewhere else for cheaper.”

Asman asked Weiner, “Did you ever look at a disclosure statement from Goldline?” Weiner replied, “I did.” Asman - who seemed to have been about to respond to a Weiner statement to the contrary by pouncing with a copy of that disclosure -- said “Hold on, wait a minute, but you said that there was no disclosure statement.” After Weiner responded, “No, they have a very lengthy one,” Asman claimed, “But I saw your interview with [Bill] O'Reilly, you were saying there was no disclosure statement.” Weiner replied, “That is not true, you're just making up stuff left and right, I never said that in the interview.” Watch:

Indeed, Weiner did not claim during his Monday interview with O'Reilly that “there was no disclosure statement” for Goldline. The only comment Weiner said that even remotely resembled that was his comment that Goldline “make[s] anyone who makes a complaint sign a nondisclosure, non complaint agreement.” Watch:
