Dick Morris lies to readers in money solicitation for GOP candidate

Apparently not content to just lie to followers about policy issues, Dick Morris is now lying about his candidate endorsement policies to get big money for a Republican.

In a June 18 email to subscribers of DickMorris.com -- a website frequently touted on Fox News -- the disgraced FNC “political analyst” encouraged people to financially support Florida gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum. Morris pitched McCollum by highlighting the purported uniqueness of his endorsement, writing: “I do not normally make endorsements in primary contests, but I urge everyone to support McCollum in the Florida Governor's race of 2010. And, if you can, please join me at an event for him in Boca Raton on Wednesday, June 23rd.”

The idea that Morris does “not normally make endorsements in primary contests” is laughably false. He does it all the time. Morris endorsed Republicans in two recent, high profile GOP primaries: California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina over Tom Campbell and Chuck DeVore; and Rand Paul over Trey Grayson. Morris also endorsed candidates in lesser-known congressional primaries, such as Robert Lowry in Florida, Glenn Gallas (unsuccessfully) in Arkansas, and Stephen Broden in Texas.

Morris has also worked for a Republican candidate during a primary. The Boston Globe reported that in 2009, Morris served as a paid consultant for Christy Mihos' unsuccessful campaign to get the GOP nomination for Massachusetts governor.

In other words, making “endorsements in primary contests” is normal for Dick Morris. As is lying.

Dick Morris' June 18 email:

subject: Join Dick Morris In Boca Raton, Support McCollum

Dear Friend,

Electing Bill McCollum as Florida's next governor is crucial to our efforts to take back America. Florida has twenty-five Congressmen -- more than any state other than California and Texas.

Whoever wins this election will control the reapportionment after the 2010 census. How these lines are drawn could effect whether five to ten seats go Democrat or Republican.

McCollum, who has served as a distinguished Attorney General of this swing state, is facing a primary contest from an opponent who has made millions in highly questionable billings under the Medicaid and Medicare program.

His financial dealings have come under great scrutiny. But he is using his gains to fund a campaign of smear against McCollum.

I do not normally make endorsements in primary contests, but I urge everyone to support McCollum in the Florida Governor's race of 2010. And, if you can, please join me at an event for him in Boca Raton on Wednesday, June 23rd.
