Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller concocts a headline

January 11, 2010 11:16 am ET by Eric Boehlert

Not an auspicious beginning for Carlson's new right-wing news site. Here's a headline that was featured on the site this morning [emphasis added]:

Race comments by Senate majority leader shock Washington

Slight problem.  The headline simply links to a perfunctory AP story about Reid; an AP story that never suggests his comments shocked Washington, or anybody else. Daily Caller just made that part up.

Ah, more "conservative journalism"?

Yeah, "Negro dialect" is certainly not a term that I'd use, but I attributed Reid's use of the term to be more that of an older fellow than that of a racist. I was describing the racial features and dialect of the heroine in "Avatar" and realized as I was saying it that, yeah, the term "African-American" was pretty clunky in that context. "Black" would have been more appropriate for that conversation. So terms can get in the way even for well-meaning people . And no, I don't think Trent Lott's remarks at Strom Thurmond's birthday party were well-meaning. I think he was being entirely earnest.

If you're going to succeed among the Republican crowd today, there's no room for moderation. Carlson's now competing with Limbaugh/Beck/Hannity/Coulter.

And Carlson's no idiot. He knows that if he's going to win, he has to play the same game they're playing.

Sorry, Tucker IS an idiot, your point about succeeding amongst Republicans notwithstanding.
