You're forgetting a basic rule of liberal (or, "actual") humor, Wesley; It's funniest if it's based on a solid foundation of truth.

That video follows the template for conservative "humor-style humor substitute". Putting the advocates of health care reform in the role of the right wing militaristic jingos is just too absurd to work. Did you learn nothing from the Half Hour Comedy Hour ?

Sorry colonel but their is no universal template for humor...everyone has a different funnybone.

For some more Friday follies...check out the second segment on this video from The Daily Show. Stewart skewers Olbermann...but don't fret...he also gets his licks in on Limbaugh, Malkin, etc.

I saw Stewart's bit on Olbermann and thought it was very funny. It was based on truth.

I agree there's no universal template for what's funny. It's very subjective. I was only making the point that the best humor is based on truth. That's why I laugh at Stewart's jokes about liberals, conservatives, and everybody else.

Thompson's "joke" is based on right wing confusion and spin. That's why I don't find it funny. You find it funny because it's about Obama.

Don't try to pull rank on me, colonel...and decide why I think something is funny...you're not that good.

Here are my sentiments on your analysis...from one of the most incredibly sexy women ever.

I didn't expect you to agree with me. In fact, it would have proved me wrong if you actually recognized that you know you think it's funny only because of partisanship.

The whole idea of non-funny humor is that you don't even realize why you think it's funny.

And that reason is... what??? What's the matter--can't you articulate why Thompson's comment is funny to you? Do tell us.

Does that mean I need to apologize for pointing out what I saw as the truth?

I admit it was mildly funny. But Thompson isn't really one to be cracking jokes re: effective campaigning.

      Hey Fred,

HOW MANY delegates did you win in the '08 Republican Primary?

You're hack politican and a hack actor that only knows how to play the same role he plays all the time: That of a hack politician.

        Oh be kind.
Since the acting thing failed he is looking to branch out into comedy.

From the looks of things, that isn't working out too well.

The way I see it, on a partisan site, with passionate commentary coming from all sides, EVERY thumbs up and thumbs down is WELL EARNED and should be taken with PRIDE.

I HATE when I post something and get NOTHING. I'd rather have three thumbs down (lately most likely from RightOn, Cheney2010 and Hmm...hmmm..hmm...) than just be ignored!

            ----------------------------------------------------
Sacry thing: I have that much in common with Limbaugh!

I feel the same way, eddie. The thumbs down with no response basically says "I don't have an argument against anything you said, so I hate you !".

And I appreciate the trolls who realize they don't have anything sensible to add to the discussion. They take up much less time and space that the deluded types who post their boneheaded/confused/off-topic/Fox talking points comments (although they don't provide as many laughs).

It was either him, or Lamar Alexander. Thompson certainly used it.

Maybe he's dragging out the b!tchy one-liners to angle for the part he was born to play: Statler in a live-action version ofThe Muppet show:

I'm hoping that Obama has learned his lesson about trying to cooperate with conservative right wing religious fundamentalists. If the GOP wanted him to help their counterparts in the MIddle East, they should have encouraged the president by being more reasonable.

Yeah, great point, Fred! Obama should campaign for the Taliban, and then they'll fall apart! It makes perfect sense, seeing as Obama's a horribly inept campaigner who could never possibly win an elec- oh, wait a minute...
