Glenn Beck claims Soviet genocide "erased" from history

January 22, 2010 6:15 pm ET by Simon Maloy

Not surprisingly, Glenn Beck's documentary "Revolutionary Holocaust" was a giant, ahistorical waste of time. After arguing that Hitler was really a leftist because he and Karl Marx both had an affinity for genocide, Beck then "exposed" the already well-known atrocities committed by the world's communist dictators.

Promising to teach us about "the genocide you've never heard of" that "for some reason history has erased," Beck embarked on a lengthy denunciation of Soviet mass murder under Stalin, focusing on the state-imposed famine in the Ukraine.

Seriously? Stalin's pogroms and political terrorism and genocidal policies have been forgotten? They've been "erased" from the history books?

Are you kidding me?

I can't speak for all the history books, but they certainly haven't been erased from the History Channel.

The justification for this "revelation" was offered by Beck's featured scholar, Liberal Fascism author and National Review columnist Jonah Goldberg, who said that people nowadays talk about Soviet communism as a "well-intentioned social experiment."

I'm not sure who these people are, but I am sure they don't represent the consensus of historical thought.

Man, every time they talked about Stalin in college, they used to follow it up with the laundry list of atrocities that he committed while in power, especially the party purges. Maybe Beck should rename his "documentary" Revisionist Holocaust.

Beck didn't go to college...maybe if he did he would have learned something about Soviet atrocities and would not have assumed that American colleges do not teach about them. Another example of Beck's poor educational background...

"who said that people nowadays talk about Soviet communism as a 'well-intentioned social experiment.'" Really? Who have Jonah and his mommy been talking to? It isn't anybody that I know. I always described Stalin as one of history's true bad guys when I was teaching.

Have u looked at the people our so called president has working around him???

Possible explanations for what this means:
-Barack Obama's top staffers are SO FAT (how fat are they?) that when they work around him, they WORK AROUND HIM!
-Barack Obama has lain across an area where railroad tracks were supposed to be built, and so the workers are forced to work around him.
-All the lights are off at the White House, so Obama isn't sure exactly where everyone is, but they're definitely working around there SOMEWHERE.
-npell am not too so great with the English.

My first history class in college was very depressing because we learned about this guys who committed genocide and mass murder. We went over everything from the black plague to the holocaust and communism. Everything that was in Beck's "documentary" I already knew about from reading books and going to classes. So there was no progressive conspiracy to erase these events from the history books.

Who the f-ck "nowadays" talks about Soviet Communism as a "well-intentioned social experiment"?

I'm old. I read everything I can get my hands on. I watch far too much TV. I've yet to see anything that shows the Soviet Union in a good light. NOTHING!

Where does this moron get this crap? Linking today's progressives with Soviet atrocities is the same as linking teabaggers to those responsible for the Holocaust.

Either statement is not only false but divisive. Anyone who thinks that the 52.9 % of the electorate is in league with communists really needs to have their heads examined.

This kind of talk will only lead to our ruin.

I think you might want to get your hands on a bit more to read... maybe expand outside your left-leanings. The statement "Linking today's progressives with Soviet atrocities is the same as linking teabaggers to those responsible for the Holocaust." shows that people still just do not get it. Someone somewhere has managed to make you drink the koolaide that somehow Conservatives (ie those tea party goers and middle-class Americans who believe in the Constitution) are in any way related to Nazism. Hitler was a socialist. The main difference being only that he was for National (German) socialism, and Stalin was for Global socialism. Comparing anyone on "the right" to Nazi Germany just shows them to be uneducated. We can argue over if Nazi Germany is the path to follow or not, but let's take a look at who the real racists, eugenics, elitists, fascists are in history and in government today. I just hope people wake up before it's too late to save freedom.

President Obama is trying so hard to stop you Americans from finding out about the Holodomor. Well, other than posting about it on the White House website on Holodomor Rememberance Day last November where he stated, "remembering the victims of the man-made catastrophe of Holodomor provides us an opportunity to reflect upon the plight of all those who have suffered the consequences of extremism and tyranny around the world."

Of course if Glenn was the journalist his fans and the channel he's on pretends he is, said fans would have known about this tragedy when he reported on the previously mentioned website entry.

I believe the Stalinist government is best described as Thugism.
Its leathiality to its own people well known.

The bit that is mostly invisible to Americans is that the Russian Army broke the German Army. The way they went about it was appalling, but the Nazi dream died when Russia was able to push them back.

Glenn Beck claims Soviet genocide "erased" from history

Um??? No it is not! I know in public school. Especially high school the history books were not real history books. Very fabricated to look like the U.S. or world had a good history. If it did talk about struggles. The chapters were VERY short. On that note the true learning you can get is in college.

Every school should be truthful in historical facts. Not shine things up to look clean or innocent.

I was always taught in school that there were more people killed by Soviet Russia then in the Holocaust... I don't know the exact figures but it surely wasn't erased. Every teacher and professor I had, both liberal and conservative, taught this in school...

What Beck is counting on is that many Americans know nothing about history. I had someone today tell me they had no idea who the Israelis continue to fight, even though it is on the news 24/7...

Beck needs to get a life.

I am a school teacher and while I do not teach history, I can tell you mention of Stalin and Mao is minimal. They were dictators during such and such time of such and such country. That is all that is mentioned, honestly. Holodomor in Ukraine is something never mentioned, even in college.

I do not know why people shy away from the truth. Ok, it is a terrible truth, but why is it rarely, or barely, taught?

Also, Khmer Rouge and the Vietnam War are not mentioned. Not sure why the Khmer Rouge is omitted, but I've asked why Vietnam is and I'm told "it is too recent". Being born after Vietnam myself, I know little to nothing of it other than what I have learned after K-12 schooling, on my own. Sad, really.

Again, Beck has inverted the truth. I have a clear memory of learning about the evils of Stalin's Russia. In contrast, I didn't really learn too much about the naughty little bits of America's past until well after high school. You know, like how we got an enormous economic head start by being the longest to hold onto the most inhumane and dehumanizing system of chatell slavery in history. Or that the "Indian Removal" policies were really the government-sanctioned mass genocide of Native American civilizations. Or that the Mexican-American War killed nearly 30,000 Mexicans and took nearly half of their richest territory.

If any bits of history have been erased and/or revised, it's been the atrocities commited right here on our own soil under auspices of conversative-style democracy and liberal capitalism.

Question: Who do you think benefits most from this revisionism and inversion of the truth? Uber-conservatives like Beck, or Progressives?

More like horribly implemented, corrupted total failure. How exact;y did beck justify saying that marx was an advocate for genocide? That doesnt sound quite right to me. He proposed a revolution but a revolution is not the systematic killing of a race, religion or ethnicity. And many countries in the world have had violent revolts at some point in history. The french revolution stands out as its origins have parallels to the revolution described by marx. Not to mention, AMERICA HAD A REVOLUTION. Were these all genocides according to becky? What did we expect from someone who NEVER passed a single college class. Beck's depth of knowledge about american or world history is likely some distorted conservative view of whatever he can remember from a senior year high school social studies class. He isnt exactly qualified to teach people "real history" or even practice "journalism" for that matter. Im sure a lot of history teachers were rolling their eyes and trying to hold down their dinner through this disgraceful whatever it was.

In January of 1849, Marx and Engels, in a newspaper they published advocated for the genocide against all peoples they considered less than, the Czechs, Slavs, Magyars, Serbs, etc.. I know that propaganda sites, like marxists.org censor the data they find particularly inconvenient, but that doesn't mean that those articles aren't in print and available online and off.

Why does a search of the Princeton website betray not a hint of the genocide in Ukraine aka, the Holodomor? The results are much the same at Yale and other major universities.

And where is NBC's, CBS's, and ABC's documentaries on the Ukrainian Famine Genocide in the past 80 years. There appears to be not one.

"Holodomor" googles 306,000 so the conclusion is obvious - that an epic leftist genocide is still the subject of a massive coverup by the leftist MSM and leftist academia.

the famine as a tool used to break the peasantry so that communist collectivization of agrigulture could be imposed. It also targeted Ukrainian nationa consciousness and religion, both of which were anathema to communism. This reminds me of young William Ayers, who used to speak about killing millions in order to impose socialist paradise on America. Remember, the ends justify the means for our all-knowing and good intentioned Marxist leaders.
