Will there be green tea in CNN's green room?

February 01, 2010 11:46 am ET by Jamison Foser

With Candy Crowley set to take over CNN's Sunday State of the Union broadcast, let's take a moment to review some of her most memorable moments.

Like the time Crowley insulted Iowans in a ham-handed attempt to portray John Kerry as a coastal elite for drinking green tea -- revealing her own elitist attitudes in the process.

And the time Crowley claimed Democrats "message" was "we don't support the troops and we're not tough on national security."

Or the time Crowley said it wasn't her job to tell viewers which politicians were lying more.

Or the time Crowley accused then-presidential candidate Barack Obama of rooting for economic difficulties.

That's the kind of track record that gets you a high-profile gig hosting a Sunday political talk show on CNN.

This ought to put the nail in the coffin of CNN's State of the Union. I can't stand Candy Crowley and will change the channel whenever she is on my tv.

I say lets give her a chance.

If she starts making a lot of verbal gaffs, then we will respond.

Indeed. And there's nothing to be done about it.
It is, as they say, fat accompli.

Journalists are about to be included in the old joke about politicians and prostitutes. They become respectable just by sticking around long enough.

Well, this will stop me from switching over to CNN on Sunday mornings.

She has a proven track record, and that proven track record is not admirable.

Did you read the examples cited by MMfA?

Mr News did read them, but unfortunately they weren't in limerick form.

I will never forget Crowley's coverage of the 2004 Democratic primary debates. I would watch the entire debate and listen to the candidates discuss their health care plans. Edwards would talk about universal coverage, Kucinich would go on about single payer, Dean would use his credentials as a doctor to explain his plan and when the debate was over Crowley would come and report that the candidates did not spend any time talking about health care. I couldn't believe it and wondered if she watched or listened to any of the debate that she was covering for CNN. I doubt she will do much for the CNN Sunday morning show.

Well, that sucks. They should have picked someone on their payroll who isn't an imbecilic conventional-wisdom garbage disposal...

      ...never mind.

I remember Crowley's coverage of the 2004 Democratic primary debates. The candidates would spend quite a bit of timing talking about their health care plans. After the debate ended, Crowley would report to the CNN audience that the candiates did not talk about health care. I wondered at the time if Crowley even watched the debate she was supposed to be covering for CNN. I doubt if her stint on CNN's Sunday morning show is going to be very good.

No doubt you Mr. Foser, as a gentleman, can't be held responsible for the innuendo that I, as your opposite, found in that particular turn of phrase. But thanks nonetheless.
