WorldNetDaily columnist Erik Rush: Obama's "Bolshevik plot" reference is "Freudian projection"

February 04, 2010 8:56 am ET by Media Matters staff

From Erik Rush's February 4 WorldNetDaily column:

The way some of you have gone after this bill, you'd think this was some ... Bolshevik plot.

-- President Obama, Jan. 29, 2010, to GOP members of the House

Now, why on earth might people suspect someone who's been immersed in Marxist ideology since he came out of the chute of masterminding a Bolshevik-style plot? Actually, I'm glad Obama brought it up; he saved me the trouble. Regular readers of this column are aware that I've made this claim regarding nearly everything Obama has done, from his involvement in mortgage-securities politics (even before he became president) to health-care legislation.

The "Bolshevik plot" statement itself, according to a professional I consulted in the area of psychological pathology (yes, I do that, because I don't pretend to be a psychologist), might be a variant of psychological projection (sometimes called Freudian Projection). You know, like the guy who says to his wife, "Jeez, honey -- it's not like I'm cheating on you," when in fact, he is. He's trying to allay her suspicions whilst gauging them at the same time. Judging from the materials I've read by psychologists and lay people on Obama's alleged mental twists, I can only come to the conclusion that the signs thereof are pretty apparent.

But all of this borders on the irrelevant. The current economic crisis was orchestrated. Health-care reform, Obama's past spending and his new budget all have the same objective: manipulation of the economy toward consolidation of unprecedented power. Obama could possess any number of dangerous psychological maladies; for now, he's still the president, and his ideology presents far more peril than the mind that harbors it.

Whatever the case, if he mentions the film "Soylent Green" once, I'm heading for the hills.

You can put "Rush" "Obama" and "Freudian Projection" in the same sentence, but in most instances, it would never come out like this...

      Umm, no.

Projection would be the cheating husband accusing (or even just thinking) the wife of the same.

I don't pretend to be a psychologist either, but if you actually consulted a professional on this, I recommend you get a second opinion.

His whole premise is bogus, but we know that the Troglodyte brain cannot construct analogies.

If nobody had accuse Obama of being a Bolshevik, and he just blurted it out for no apparent reason, then Rush might have a sliver of a point.

However, the droolers have been accusing him of being the reincarnation of Stalin, Hitler, Trotsky and Mussolini rolled into one for a year now. Responding to scurrilous lies is not projection.

      These people are idiots.

Wingnut logic: if you don't say it, it's because it's true and you're hiding something, but if you deny something, it's even more true and you're hiding it in plain sight!

It's sad that these people are allowed to sit on juries.

It's a good thing Obama didn't say "antichrist" instead (plenty on the right have called him that as well). He might have given away the game.

Yes. The cherry atop the sundae of stupid that is this 'column' is that this:

a variant of psychological projection (sometimes called Freudian Projection). You know, like the guy who says to his wife, "Jeez, honey -- it's not like I'm cheating on you," when in fact, he is.

is not an example of projection. Projection would be the man accusing his wife of cheating on him, when in fact, he is cheating on her.

Psychological Pathology Professional (aka his fevered dreams, no doubt) fail.

      Lets follow the logic.

Mr. Rush has come to the conclusion that the President is actually perpetrating a Bolshevik plot because he used the term, "Bolshevik plot" one time while talking to members of the GOP.

In his article Rush uses that same term many times. He also uses "Marxist," writes of a man lying to his wife, and mentions the motion picture Soylent Green.

So, using his own words, we can only come to the conclusion that Rush is a Marxist, who is cheating on his wife, who is in the midst of a Bolshevik plot, that will involve turning capitalist into tasty little crackers.

As he said, the signs thereof are pretty apparent.

But all of this borders on the irrelevant. The current economic crisis was orchestrated.

This seems to imply that Obama "orchestrated the ecoonomic crisis.
Other than the fact I would like to see the logic behind this thought.
(I know, there isn't any logic)
How did one person manage to "orchestrate" a world wide economic crisis? I guess Obama is much more capable than even I give him credit for.

All the more impressive given that he was somehow able to trigger the crisis before he stepped into the White House.

If it were "orchestrated", it was done by the Republicans who are well-known to have a 'starve the beast' mentality about government.

I think that Bush did (or failed to do) several things in order to hinder the Democratic President who was sure to follow him after his disastrous reign.

So if a person says something, it's because it's a Freudian projection. Well then what does El-Rushbo mean by, bend over and grab your ankles?
