Palin apparently needs crib notes for how to avoid hypocrisy

February 07, 2010 2:51 pm ET by Dianna Parker

During an interview that aired on Fox News Sunday today, former vice presidential candidate-turned-Fox News contributor Sarah Palin took another swipe at President Obama for using a teleprompter to make speeches. She told host Chris Wallace that she doesn't want to be the de-facto leader of the Tea Party because, "It's much bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter. It is the people's movement. It's about the people and I'm proud to be a part of this."

Perhaps the Tea Party movement isn't bigger than a charismatic woman who has crib notes apparently scribbled on her hand when she is giving speeches.

A Huffington Post blogger seems to have caught Palin with the words "energy," "tax cuts," and "lift American spirits" written on her hand during her keynote speech yesterday at the Tea Party Convention. (Oliver Willis -- who works for Media Matters -- and Think Progress also caught Palin apparently reading off her hand during a later Q & A.) Palin also said during the speech -- without a hint of irony -- that the Tea Party movement is "a lot bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter." Palin appeared to be reading her speech from an apparently far-more-appropriate paper copy.

Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't point out that there are numerous photos of Palin using teleprompters to give speeches while on the campaign trail. For example, here's a photo posted last year by Florida TV station CFNews 13 of a November 1, 2008, Palin rally in Ocala, Florida:

And here's another of Palin in Missouri a few days later, courtesy CNN:

And a third of her in Ohio the same day, posted by The Plain Dealer:

Time to retire this talking point?

Are you kidding, Dianne? Using teleprompters (or writing notes on your hand like a middle-schooler) IOKIYAR...

...She couldn't remember... "tax cuts" or... "energy?" She's been living and breathing these two things.

Seriously. It's like cheating on an algebra test by writing 2+2=4.

This pretty much destroys her as a human being. There isn't one single other person in the entire world who doesn't know the first seven words of their own core beliefs.

(and it's very hard to be definitively dumber than every politician and pundit on the planet.)

It could not possibly be that those are subjects she wanted to make sure she touched on, after all nooo politician would ever right notes (except like Washington, Lincoln and those crazy guys)

Are you suggesting that Washington and Lincoln would "right" notes on their hands? Pretty weak defense there, WTH.

Jut like the Tea Partiers that are using laptops on the podiums during their speech. It isn't a teleprompter (technically) but; it serves the same function. Gone are the days when people even tried to give a speech without any notes, etc.

But; of course, only those librul elitists would ever use them.

That's not a TelePrompTer she's using in these pics. Those are the tops from old student desks that have Palin's speeches written on them. She uses them when there is no remaining space on the palms of her hands. LOL

No, big difference between the two. One of the two stutters and fumbles around without a prompter, the other uses it like a Powerpoint for guideance. If you can't see the differnce, you are brainwashed.

        "guideance"? "differnce"?

Looks like your brain could use a bit of scrubbing.

Apparently, none of these people have ever, you know, given a speech, because it's pretty standard practice to use notes/teleprompters when doing so. I don't get it, that this is a rational item to attack Obama on. I mean, it's almost as if they're jealous that he is a great public speaker, and they, eh, not so much (for evidence of this, watch Palin's resignation speech that is full of word salad).

Obama didn't seem to need a teleprompter to spank the GOP during the Q&A with House Republicans, and I didn't see him checking any paper or body parts for crib notes. As I recall, he had no problem remembering facts and details. Yet even with her notes, Palin could give no specific actions that she would take if she became President <shudder>, (except for asking for divine intervention to protect us from our enemies.) She was also pretty short on facts.

Besides, it shouldn't have been too hard to remember her "speech." Seems to me she just watched Hannity and Beck over and over, memorized their talking points along with all of the insults, slams and lies she sprinkled through-out. She also managed to warn everyone that she was taking the gloves off when it comes to the Democrats while calling for civility in our public discourse. Hypocrite seems too mild a word.

media matters.... the washington post also has an additional photo by one thier photographers of her with the writing on her hand well before her speech. meaning she knew the questions for her Q&A that explains why she kept rubbing her leg during Q&A to whipe it off i wondered why she kept looking at her hand. i wouldnt care if she wasnt such a hypocrite... wat a shame

The question I have is the second line on her hand...

"budget cuts" with the line through budget... what's up with that?

Question is... did she really look at her hand?

      Oooops! Busted during the Q&A.

Let's see how this fact is treated in the rest of the media. My gawd, if any Dem politico was caught with crib notes scrawled on his/her hand, the media's hair would be aflame for two weeks. Fox News would devote all of their punditry programming over to the hand notes. Bob Schieffer would devote a month of special editorials to it. David Gregory would make sure his corporate masters see him referring to it.

      And so on...

So, that's what this is all about! Her anti-teleprompter speech was already written, then they realized she's too stupid to memorize six words.

I guess they figured it would be more Mavericky for her to write it on her hand than to use a teleprompter while criticizing the President for using a teleprompter.

Seriously people? This is the woman that you want running our country? This is the woman , that so many of you, including Glenn Beck, believe is going to save us?
