The strangest Hitler comparison in a long, long time

February 07, 2010 9:10 pm ET by Jamison Foser

Newsbuster Warner Todd Huston, writing on his own web site, comes through with the weirdest liberals-are-like-Hitler paragraph you're likely to read this month:

Being a liberal is like being Hitler, murderer of over six million human beings, were he to have tsk tsked Pol Pot for being so evil as to have murdered three million Cambodians. There is no sense of shame with a liberal. They have no sense whatsoever that anything they've ever done should temper their reactions to the actions of others. They have no understanding of the old saw of throwing stones in glass houses.

Whoa.

The substance of Huston's bizarre screed is just as bad.  Huston is blasting liberals for criticizing Sarah Palin for writing crib notes on her palm before a Q&A session at this weekend's Tea Party festivities.  See, Huston thinks this is hypocritical of the liberals, because President Obama often uses a teleprompter:

OK, let's take just a minute to go with that concept. Let's say that anyone that has to have notes for every single appearance is an idiot that cannot remember to draw a breath unless he has a note to remind him to do it.

If that is a solid point to make, we have but one word that can put little Steffie in his place, make Sarah seem like a genius, and diss his messiah all at once. That word...

Teleprompter!

That's right folks, if Sarah is an idiot for having four or five words scribbled on her palm to remind her of the order in which she wants to address the issues, then what is president Obama that has to set teleprompters up in a sixth grade class room to talk to the folks there?

Huston is right that there is hypocrisy at play here, but he somehow manages to miss the fact that it's Palin's hypocrisy.  See, Palin bashed Obama for using a teleprompter even as she relied on notes scribbled on her hand to get through her appearance:

"This is about the people, and it's bigger than any one king or queen of a Tea Party, and it's a lot bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter," she said.

That was just one of several digs at President Obama. (Ms. Palin herself read a prepared speech.)

Huston wraps up his embarrassing little rant by declaring liberalism a "mental disorder":

See what I mean about liberals? They have no sense of shame, no sense of proportion, not a single firing synapse to guide them. It truly is a mental disorder.

Yawn, just another meat head projecting again. Every time they critisize they are merely subconsiously expressing their own characteristics.

Yes it could and likely is often subconscious. But many in the right-wing media are engaged not in saying what they think, but propaganda. He could be consciously gainsaying what he sees as an effective point made against the right by the opposition, in this case their fascistic nature.

I think what they hate is the fact that we have the chutzpah to know what we are talking about. They hate knowing that we not only study them, but we can recall their actions at a later time and remind them of it.

Their memories were reset on January 20, 2009, @ 12 Noon by their overlords. They have never seen Palin using a TelePrompTer (LIE), and they don't think it's childish for her to write notes on the palm of her hand. We're not supposed to think it's such a big deal for a 44 y/o woman who thinks she's qualified to be POTUS to use the palm of her hand for crib notes, and we're being too mean when we do it.

They want to tell us what to think and how to act, and we're the Nazis?

Well, Mr. Huston, you haven't met me, and I resent that you would judge me and every other liberal out their without knowing us. I have a sense of shame and guilt, I take it out and examine it on a regular basis, I feel it keeps me grounded and in touch with reality. I have a sense of proportion, too. Every President in my life time has used a telepromter to deliver speeches. I have no problem with them. I am sure that the Foxterds and Foxtarts use them all the time, too. I don't really care if Sarah used a teleprompter or not. I do find the scribbling of notes on your hand to be something worthy of a Middle Schooler, however. But then, a lot of the stuff that Simple Sarah does is along those lines. She is still the Prom Queen Jockette, making snarky cuts at the brainy kids. She has one of the thinnest skins I've ever seen in politics. She made putdowns about a teen-age boy, for mercy's sake. She is the one who needs to grow up. And Mr. Huston, that you could make those comparisons of liberalism to mental illness and a lack of conscience tells me that you are a projecting, unprincipled idiot, completely lacking in your own sense of shame and proportion.

Clever writing. He didn't directly compare liberals to Hitler as a person. He used Hitler and Pol Pot to create a hypothetical hypocrisy scenario and placed "a liberal" as the hypocrite (Hitler) in that particular scenario. He could have used two people who are each guilty of the same, but much less awful than genocide, thing and grammatically the point made would have been just as well made. But for those readers predisposed to believe the worst of liberals, the slur they wish to believe is likely reinforced anyway.

Right. He coulda used some other, non-violent "pot calling the kettle black" analogy. But that's not hardcore enough anymore. You really gotta drive the point home, that your opponent is not only idealistically different, he's also one of the largest genocidal maniacs in the world. He's the ENEMY.

At worst, it's a call for violence, at best, it's telling you NEVER to agree with liberals on ANYTHING, or you are agreeing with a psychopath.

When this comparison is made several times a day, (at LEAST), EVERY day; reinforced by Beck's crazy "theories" and his "documentary" insinuating Progressives=Mao, Hitler, Che & Stalin; AND, the people who buy into this trash on Fox LimpBalls and all the other talking Nuts...I don't think there has EVER been a time in our history where a US President & his Party has been SO demonized by a bunch of brainwashed FOOLS!! And NOW--they are further elevated in their "astro-Frenzy" by actual politicians-both in and out of office

Off-Topic: Just wondering, I just listened to a late-night re-run of MTP. WHY didn't MMFA cover the "Analysis" and, uhmm.. "suggestions" that poor ole senile Greenspan, (didn't he say he was WRONG in advocating/implementing NON-regulatory practices right when everything fell apart in Sept/Oct '08? He seems to have forgotten...), and the "magnanimous" Paulson, had of and for the Obama Admin.? Does anyone even WATCH MTP anymore? (except me at 4AM? :)

So let me get this straight, sir... this is your encapsulating premise and yet you:

1- Open straight to calling ALL liberals "like Hitler" based on the fact that they mock her grade school cheat sheet.

2- Defend (and lie to cover) Palin's speech transgressions as you claim Obama's are fully indicative of stupidity.

3- Push hard the theory that ALL liberals, fellow Americans, are really a lesser species.

Is that about the size of it? You're really okay with disseminating this message? And I suppose you feel that you've displayed some sort of superiority to these fellow Americans based on a lower brain function? What's next? A post about ALL liberals are elitist?

Good grief, what a load of projectionist crap. How tragic that anyone takes you at all seriously.

As bad as the ridiculous Hitler comparison is by itself, the fact that Mr. Huston exerts almost zero effort in specifically pointing out the relevance between Hitler murdering millions of people and liberals is even more comical. All he claims is that they (liberals) have a "temper", yet, offers no example of it.

Can you imagine having a debate or discussion with these Newsbuster clowns or their lapdogs that actually take them seriously? Anybody can take their articles and literally point out all the hypocritical, ignorant, fact-free garbage they come up with and all they can probably come up with is "liberalism is a mental disorder". Just going back to their bread and butter... wingnut talking points. It's sheer child's play.

As usual, they are being the palace of paranoid pansies and newsbusting themselves for being complete fools.

But, but, but... STEELE! You're asking conservatives for evidence of their claims! Don't you know that's the same as BEING HITLER!

Okay, okay, I can't fake that level of utter ignorance and stupidity.

The problem as I see it is that the average conservative wingnut is so conditioned to believe whatever fairy-story they're fed by anyone in a position conservatives believe to be one of authority. Preacher says the Earth is 6000 years old, therefore it is. Bubba, the Grand High Poohbah at the Lodge says Obama is a Muslim, therefore it is true.

Let's forget the bogus Hitler analogy for a moment. At the core of his argument, he's equating the use of a teleprompter for a long speech to a woman who is too stupid to memorize three things.

Because that is practically what every President of this country has done for as long as we can all remember... made speeches with teleprompters. Reagan did it, Bush Sr. did it, Clinton did it, Bush Jr. did it (and still messed up).
