Dear Sarah Palin, should Rush Limbaugh "grow up"?

February 09, 2010 11:50 am ET by Brian Frederick

In her ridiculous defense of Rush Limbaugh's use of the word "retards" -- and her criticism of Rahm Emanuel for using the same word -- Sarah Palin also repeatedly called for an end to "name-calling." Palin said that "name-calling, using language that is insensitive, by anyone, male, female, Republican, Democrat, is unnecessary. It's inappropriate." She added: "Let's all just grow up."

However, Palin obviously would make another exception for Limbaugh. After all, name-calling and use of insensitive language are Limbaugh's favorite tricks.

Consider these recent examples, just since the new year:

Limbaugh attacks Paul Krugman, "who looks like a ferret to me"

Limbaugh says Obama is a "full-fledged idiot if he's not an ideologue and he's not a Bolshevik"

Limbaugh refers to Katie Couric as "CBS anchorbabe"

Limbaugh calls Obama an idiot for having high expectations on Middle East peace process

Limbaugh calls Obama a "spoiled-rotten little man-child," suggests he is "delusional"

Limbaugh blames "feminazis" for "gender war", says some men are "marrying up" by "marrying other men"

Limbaugh: "It was ACORN, under the direction of Barack Obama, that got Carol Moseley Fraud elected"

Limbaugh says Obama appointed "a pervert" as the safe schools czar

Limbaugh on Martha Coakley: "[I]f it weren't for her varicose veins, she would be totally colorless"

Limbaugh: David Shuster is "one of the hapless, genuinely ignorant schlubs over at MSNBC"

According to Palin's "logic", rules only apply to Democrats - Republicans get a free ride.

That's sophisticated political commentary in Palin's world...

Sarah Palin has a lot of nerve...as she is quickly becoming the Republican queen of taunting insults.

"How's that hopey, changey thing workin' out for ya?"

Quite frankly, when it comes to Sarah Palin, name-calling is entirely appropriate IMO. I can't think of a person more deserving of derision. Sarah Palin doesn't merit a civil debate of issues because she is intellectually incapable of such a debate. Sarah Palin is too stupid to even understand issues let alone articulate them. She is an empty vessel who repeats what she is told in order to rile up an ignorant class of people.

        "quickly becoming" ???

Did you watch ANY of the Palin / McCain campaign ralies in 2008?

The audience was getting whooped-up, screaming and carrying signs full of insults & racist taunts.

        This is her sweet-spot.

..Except when it's directed towards her. Then it's inflammatory and derogatory, lies, smears, and the person should get fired immediately, tarred and feathered, and burned at the stake.

No no no. See, in all those examples, Rush was being satirical. It's only name-calling if liberals do it.

If you didn't see Colbert last night, you should find it. He scored a SLAM DUNK against Ms. Hypocrisy.
