Washington Times publishes anti-health care reform op-ed by "Obama's second cousin once removed."

March 11, 2010 6:33 am ET by Media Matters staff

From Dr. Milton R. Wolf's March 11 Washington Times op-ed:

Imagine if, like physicians, politicians were personally held to the incredibly high level of scrutiny that includes civil and financial liability for any unintended consequence of their decisions. Imagine if they were forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars each year on malpractice insurance and still faced the threat of multimillion-dollar lawsuits with every single decision they made. If so, a government takeover of health care would be the furthest thing from their minds.

[...]

I have personally trained and practiced in both the government-run and free-market segments of American medicine. The difference is vast. Patients see this for themselves, and this may be why, according to a recent CNN poll, they oppose Obamacare nearly 3 to 1. I am with them. It is difficult for me to speak publicly against the president on his central issue, but too much is at stake.

I wish my cousin Barack the greatest of success in office. But I feel duty-bound to rise in opposition to Obamacare. I must take a stand for my patients, my profession and, ultimately, my country. The problems caused by government will not be solved by growing government. Now that this new era of big-government takeovers has spread to our health care system, it's not just our freedoms or our wallets that are at stake. It's our lives.

Dr. Milton R. Wolf is a radiologist in Kansas. He is Barack Obama's second cousin once removed. President Obama's great-great grandfather, Thomas Creekmore McCurry, is Dr. Wolf's great-grandfather. Dr. Wolf's mother, Anna Margaret McCurry, was five years older than Mr. Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham. The two were childhood friends until the Dunhams moved from Kansas to Seattle in 1955.

For even his own brothers did not believe in him. (John 7:5, NIV)

I happen to be distantly related to Bush and Cheney (and by extention, Obama); hey, I've even got Winston Churchill in there somewhere. Does this mean anything at all about necessarily having similar political views to these people?

I'm sure that anyone outside the Washington Times would say No.

I have found Milton R. Wolf's radiological practice--complete with picture. There's a pretty good reason why nobody would ask for his birth certificate.

Okay, the movie I was thinking of was "Inchon"... "Kundun" is Martin Scorsese's biopic of the Dalai Lama. Sorry, I know this was old, it just bugs me to make mistakes like this.

In all my years, I can't ever remember actually talking to a radiologist. I've had conversations with my family doctor, some specialists, and even maybe an anesthesiologist, but never with a radiologist that would read the CAT scan or MRI that I underwent.

Now I'm knocking radiologists at all, they serve a very important function, but their personal contact with patients is close to being non-existent.

On Faux and Frenemies this morning they talked about how much courage he had for being willing to come out against his cousin in public and not just around the dinner table. It is entirely possible that this coattail relative hasn't ever met the President. I have first cousins that I haven't seen in nearly forty years. I've got Second cousins and removed cousins that I haven't ever heard of, let alone met.

I don't know where to put this, but courts found the O'Keefe/pimp/Breitbart ACORN videos to be highly edited to meet an agenda, all charges against ACORN were exonerated, congress was chastised for rushing in The Defund ACORN Act with no trial based on this hoax video, and O'Keefe has subsequently been arrested for trying the same thing with Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu.

The big thing is The Defund ACORN Act was found UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!

How many does this total now? Dozens or hundreds?
If you have something to say, why don't you man up and say it? Being coy and phrasing it as a cute little question is very foxy but in effective terms, you are bringing absolutely nothing.

Please document the instances of ACORN employees who have been indicted for voter registration fraud? Are they low-level contractors who, like the abusers at AbuGhraib, are bad apples who do not reflect on the larger organization?

You hint that there are hundreds but you establish a total of zero.

Agreed. We know that FOX will ignore it, and the Corporate Media whores on the other networks will find it uncomfortable, as well. We might hear about it from Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann, but I don't expect much more.

Dear Dr. Milton R. Wolf, second cousin, once removed from being related to the president. I am duty bound to tell you this; but, your message is just pathetic. Obamacare??!! The use of that term alone tells us exactly who you are and what you stand for; which happens to be more noise coming from the screaming monkeys (no offense to monkeys intended) on the right.

Wow, I'm very impressed. Haven't really been to such an progressive extremist blog before. Most of the sites I go to, the comments actually debate the content of the article (getting off topic usually). This site is very impressive in that the content is completely ignored while personal attacks pile up. The personal attacks are based on no facts just a difference of opinion. If someone holds a different opinion than you, no personal attack is off limits, even racist remarks are acceptable. Very stunning.
I'm pretty sure, if you read the editorial, you will find that Dr. Wolf doesn't make ANY claims that being related to the president gives him any authority, not sure why so many seem to think he said that –I suppose that you might make that claim if you were. His qualification isn’t just that he’s a doc who has experience in both systems, but I’m quite certain that he wears a White Doctor smock (Prez Obama has an obsession with people in them).

You might want to take note of the argument that we hear very little of, how much better our Health Care Industry is than the rest of the world. His use of actual mortality rates, better measure than fudged self-reported Infant mort/life Expt stats. I know it hurts progressives to look at facts (I have progressive in-laws & have observed this for years) but on such a serious subject, you should feel obligated to.

Interesting, if someone expresses a opposing opinion, they MUST be paid to do it, while anyone in support is sincere. I understand the progressive model is to accuse others of what you are guilty of and I have heard of a few progressive bloggers being paid.

Oh, & "Obamacare" is an accurate name since it is his bill, his goal, his promise, he owns it, it should be named for him.

Me in earlier post: "Another racist comment from the Left which of course will be allowed to stand and even supported by fellow liberals on this Board. Wait and see."

And I was right. Just check out the responses above. If a conservative had said monkeys while discussing anything BHO, MMFA and you regulars would be all over it. Just as if a conservative had said "Obama couldn't sell watermelons on the side of a road if a state trooper stopped the traffic for him"? instead of Dan Rather, you all would be calling for the resignation of whoever said it.

      I know how liberals "think".
