Dan Riehl is a piece of work, but shouldn't MMFA had added that this was an attempt at satire, knowing how some would take it at face value (or pretend to do so in order to ratchet up the OUTRAGE)?

Again, satire, when done correct, is funny, and timely. Using satire saying someone's wife should be put down is just poor taste.

That's why satire should only be written by those who can (think Samuel Clemens) and NEVER be attempted. It's not an easy thing to do.

I'd like to thank Mr. Riehl. Glen Beck and the likes of Quinn for giving the Democrats a phletora of fine Conservative values to pass on to the public during the upcoming elections.
These bums on horseback are the bset thing that could happen to the Republicans. The naysayers are finaaly being exposed and the GOP can be saved from the clutches of the HateCons. What God-fear Christian Conservative/Republican can endorsed this haters garbage. And again, why doesn't the Republican leadership do something about this...could it be that Rush hasn't given them the OKAY yet? What slimeballs, that goes for Riehl, Beck and Quinn also.

Thanks guys, you are really helping the Dems save some seats.

Senator Harry Reid and his wife SHOULD have some plans on what to do if there ever comes a time when they are injured/ill and need to choose between some medical intervention, intensive medical intervention, palliative care, or no extraordinary measures.

ALL families should have those "life panel" discussions, and healthcare insurance should provide COVERAGE to pay the doctors for their time to provide that counselling!

These are the people who claim to have the moral high ground. They accuse the Democrats of wanting to institute "death panels" in Health Care Reform. But yet this idiot is callous enough to say this in writing about a fellow human being in his time of need, to what? Score political points? All of you Teabaggers, Conservatives, GOP'ers or whatever you call yourselves. If this guy is indicative of your lot. Then, God help you! This is the most despicable diatribe that I have ever seen committed to print. I consider myself a Liberal, Progressive American, and I for one am glad that I don't count scum like ths as " on my side"!

I'll have to throw in with you on this one, mags...wow, just wow.

His attempt at making at point by using absurdity simply fails and leaves him simply absurd.

Like some others, when he started popping up on mmfa, I thought "who the heck is this guy?" Checking around I found this recent interview with Riehl if you're interested.

Read the interview, libertarian? I think not. He strikes all of the "right" chords while talking, invoking Stalin in regards to the left, and how far left Obama is (he isn't, anyone who has a thinking brain knows this), and so on. He's just another loud mouthed conservative who makes little to no sense on most items. I mean, he cites Michelle Malkin as "best of the best" in regards to bloggers/writers. She hardly even writes anything, but normally posts other people's items to link up on her blog. She's all snark, no substance, and hardly any truth at all.

His attempt at trying to make a "point" in this case, is indeed absurd. You take his premise, which could be argued from his point of view, and instead, flushes it down the toilet with a cheap hit piece on Reid, and his suffering wife. I mean, it's completely and totally ridiculous, which is of course, why he did it. He's TRYING to draw attention to himself, and he's done so. He proclaims himself to be an Egotist, in the interview that you linked, and now, we can see why, and how he's accomplished this.

The one thing I found interesting in his interview was the episode he had in college, which he didn't want to talk about, and said that's how he found out how "bad" the left is. I'm not sure what he did to draw the ire of the "left" when he was in college, but I'm betting it was some sort of O'Keefe style prank that basically was offensive to anyone with a working brain, seeing as how he's progressed since then.

He also claims to have about 13,000 views per day on his website.

It is apparently true! You vampires really are incapable of seeing yourselves in the mirror of Irony.

And nearsighted, too, for you cannot see the end of your own idealistic nonsense. Someone has dared to take you to the end-point of your foggy thinking with the breathtaking reality of where it will lead, how ugly it is, how abhorrent-- and all you can do is point at the man holding the mirror and shriek that he is the monster?

I thought the headline had to be an exaggeration but its what this person actually said!!!Unbelievable..a daily "New Low" in despicable, distasteful comments from the right this week.
He trumped Beck's social justice comment which trumped Limbaugh's comment on David Patterson this week.Hard to separate these scum merchants I know...so make it a 3 way tie!!!!

I have studied right wing talk radio for 12 yrs. I have heard and read a lot of sick, sickening comments, but this one physically made me ill. When a person has such hate in his heart there is nothing you can do but walk away.
Senator Reid is a good man, but even if he was not to wish and say something so vile about his injured wife is at the heart of right wing partisan media hosts today. When will the dittoheads, evangelicals and teabaggers wake up?

Yes this is satire you libtards.
But you people want to really bring us a healthcare system that will do stuff like this everyday.

The old who are injured will be left to die, because it will just cost too much too keep them going.

Think about the horror you are bringing down on all our heads before it is too late.

Here's an actual email I sent to Bill O'Reilly. I think its fairly cogent and reasonable.....that eliminates HIM responding right away......

      Bill,

Time to show you're ACTUALLY fair and balanced (good luck). Your staff scours every left-wing website assiduously for anything remotely controversial to go on the air with. Are you going to cover the right-wing blogger's comments that Harry Reid's wife should die? What if Sarah Palin's husband was in a car wreck and a Huffington Post blogger said that Todd Palin should be left to die? I'm pretty sure you'd cover that wouldn't you? You delight in pointing out the double standard on how the media reacts to comments from people from the left and right. You either believe in it, or you don't. Do you ONLY report outrageous comments from the left? Oh right, you do. And I know you (or your staffer who reads this) will dismiss it because you'll assume I got the story from Media Matters. You're right. I did. That doesn't make it OK. As you say ALL the time on your show, "Don't point to other bad behavior, etc....". If its wrong to say, its wrong to say. I urge you to continue your "crusade" against personal attacks and expose this on your show. I await your "fair and balanced" coverage with Mary Katherine or some other right wing blogger on this.

I eagerly await his non-response....he'll just plug his book (love how he always sneaks that in....like its legitimate feedback)

No, this was not satire. Family members of pols are off limits. NYTimes v. Sullivan does not mention family members, just the pols themselves.
