Big Government: "The Healthcare Bill Would Be Obama's 'Enabling Act'"

March 14, 2010 10:37 am ET by MMFA Staff

From a March 13 Big Government post:

Here's what else they know.   History affords many examples of regimes whose motto was "Never let a crisis go to waste."   In 1933, having campaigned for "hope" and "change," the National Socialist Worker's Party forced through the German parliament a Law to Remedy the Distress of the People and the Nation, also known as the Enabling Act.

This new law enabled the German chancellor and his appointees to bypass parliament in imposing sweeping regulations on the people:

"In addition to the procedure prescribed by the constitution, laws of the Reich may also be enacted by the government of the Reich [i.e., the Cabinet]."

The constitution of the Weimar Republic became so irrelevant that the new regime never saw a need to actually repeal it.

By this vote, the National Socialist Workers Party assumed absolute power and the Chancellor made history.

More comparisons to Nazis? Jeesh, getting old guys, getting old.

Couldn't it possibly be that, Obama and the Democrats WON some elections back in November of 2008, and since they did win, it stands to reason that, yes, they MIGHT just get to do what they want to do, and or work on things that they want to work on.

Obama and the democrats are NOT Nazis, nor do they even come close.

Oh, the joys of out of context history.

That act was passed after the Reichstag fire. The Nazis, with Goering as their main mouthpiece, blamed it on communists and started screaming about other attacks, other acts of terror that they were certain were to come unless an all too infamous chancellor was granted increased powers that allowed him to suspend civil liberties.

This holds a greater resemblance to the Patriot Act than the Health Care Bill.

If left these comments over at Big Government:

We already passed the Enabling Acts during the Bush administration. It's called the Patriot Act. The Congress handed so much of their power over to executive with that terrible piece of legislation.

Well, Texas has just begun to rewrite history to further dumb down Americans.

We're something like 27th in the world in education and by the time conservatives are through we'll be at the bottom of the list.

Making sure that every American has access to the health care system like every other country in the Western World does is akin to the Enabling Acts? What are you people smoking?

I'll post some of the responses later.

I imagine the responses will be speedy deletion, banning, and then unironic ranting about how liberals are fascists who want to silence all dissent.

I've posted at Big Government several times and they've only deleted a couple of my comments. Redstate is akin to what you posted though. I posted several comment within the span of half an hour and that's all they could take. They used IP banning so now I can't even access the site.

You might consider (if you're masochistic enough to want to go there again) what's know as TOR (The Onion Router - no relation to the satire site). Basically, it 'routes' through various other routers to hide the original IP address. IIRC, you don't even necessarily get the same IP twice.
Firefox (my browser of choice) has a plug in for it, don't know which you're using, but anyone can use TOR.

One response so far and it's pretty lame:

Yes Auntie [My username is Ant so he cleverly called me Auntie], those evil conservatives really destroyed Detroit's educational system.

Conservatives in Texas rewriting history? You've been reading too much HufPo Auntie. Or maybe your next move will be to paste in a link to a NYT article.

Isn't it interesting that these allegedly anti big government groups are only concerned about how much power the government has when DEMOCRATS are in charge? (Maybe I should say "Democrat party.")

BigGovernment.com and others like them had NO PROBLEM with the PATRIOT Act during the Bush administration. They didn't object to Bush's election stealing, warrantless wiretaps, sneak and peak searches, ability to review library book and bookstore records with no probable cause, detentions without charges, exposing of a covert CIA agent's identity, paying journalists to produce pro-administration stories, appointment of politically motivated US Attorneys who were willing to bring false prosecutions against Democrats while ignoring real evidence of crimes by Republicans, a Vice President who claimed that he was neither in the executive or the legislative branches of government, the same Vice President refusing to acknowledge the number of people who worked for him or what they did, the dismissal of military leaders who were perceived to be in disagreement with the administration's political positions and appointment of spineless "yes" men, the occupation of two countries under false pretenses, and the unwillingness of the Bush administration to kill or catch the ringleader of the one group that DID attack us.

I won't give BigGovernment.com and those other "only when the Democrat party is in charge" conspiracy theorists the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the motive for their "the Nazis are coming" rants.

No kidding. These are the same people who argued passionately for the government to tap our phones. Why Democrats don't bring this up more often irks me.

Because, the phone tapping is still going on unabated by the Obama administration. Just one of a few things I don't so much agree with them on after all.

"Never let a crisis go to waste."

For something a little more current, and closer to home, this clown should read, "THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, by Naomi Klein.

These detestable cretins wouldn't have gotten away with these comparisons ten years ago. There were more people alive then who actually experienced Nazism and fought to defeat it. I know my parents, aunts and uncles would have never stopped screaming if they knew that someone was saying that the duly elected president of the US was Nazi-like.

With every passing day, the right minimizes the horrors committed against the world by Hitler, Mussolini and the Japanese with their use of these tactics.

Are they trying to say that these children of privilege, who show up at Tea Parties are the equivalent of those who died at Auschwitz, that these loathsome politicians who seek the endorsement of this crowd are similar to those who landed on the beaches at Normandy or died trying to take Mount Suribachi?

Someone has to stand up to these people and expose them as traitors to our history. Or we can just keep quiet as they re-write it.

Republicans will vote "NO" for HCR and then BRAG about how little Johnny's parents were able to get back their HC Insurance that was denied because of little Johnny's acne due to the Republican fight against HCR that was passed by a majority of Democrats and signed into law by Pres. Obama. Yeap, Republicans "NO" votes on HCR will help bring HCR to their Voters to cover EVERY child with ANY pre-existing condition would be HUGE.

Remember the "NO" votes on Stimulus from Republicans? What about those photo-ops when the Stimulus funds went to Republican Districts? "Distraction" is ALL they have when faced with facts. Uh, oh. LOL.

To sum up the conservatives so far:

HCR will be Obama's "enabling act" which leads to his "Waterloo" on the "Ides of March" which will turn us all in "Nazis".

Sheesh, can't they just pick one freaking analogy and stick with it?

I sincerely don't think that they can choose only one analogy. They know they have no viable substitute to offer, so they try to derail HCR by throwing anything they can think of into the mix in an attempt to make the president and us appear to be un-American. I take these attempts to paint democrats as Nazis, socialists, islamofascists, etc, as signs of their powerlessness and frustration that, after all they have done, they have not been successful at stopping some type of HCR legislation from progressing through Congress up to this point.

I once asked a poster on a right wing board why he uses ad hominem attacks instead of arguing on the issues. Without a hint of irony, he responded by asking me if I'm gay.
