Pat Boone: Jennings, teachers unions want to erase "taboos against sexual aberrance ... possibly including pedophilia"

March 16, 2010 9:43 am ET by Media Matters staff

From Pat Boone's March 13 column, published by Newsmax and WorldNetDaily:

Time-honored guidelines, moral traditions, social taboos - all have just about evaporated, not even considered much anymore. Scandals and revelations and shattered images are so commonplace, in virtually every area of life, that we forget them almost as soon as they occur. Marriage itself, as a compact between a man and a woman, is under incessant attack, and over half of adult women in America aren't married now anyway!

The biggest teachers' unions are promoting the tolerance and acceptance of homosexuality, right down into grade school, where our kids shouldn't even be thinking about anything like that. Why? Because union officials who think like President Obama's "safe-school czar," Kevin Jennings, are determined that all the old taboos against sexual aberrance must be erased, and that our children must grow up without any reservations about anything sexual -- possibly including pedophilia.

Previously:

In anti-gay attack, AIM falsely asserts "pedophile" Jennings was "teaching 14-year-old boys" about sexual practices

In WorldNetDaily commentary, Pat Boone calls for "figuratively" gassing "varmints" in White House

This would have slightly more moral credibility it it came from someone who hadn't been photographed with his privates hanging out of a box (decades before Justin Timberlake, too...)

Possibly Pat did that to erase taboos against sexual aberrance. Possibly he does that all of the time. Possibly he does that during his concerts and whenever he rides the subway.

Speaking of 'public privates', I remember when I missed seeing The Doors because Jim Morrison (allegedly) exposed himself in Miami. I was hoping to make the next concert after that, which was canceled.

In any policy or social debate, my money is on vanilla singer Pat Boone, who is probably 110 years old. And this works for the conservatives?

Hey, Pat, for someone who was disfellowshipped by your church for "speaking in tongues," during a service, you sure do like pointing fingers. I can remember, when I was in junior high, that you were condemned by the church of Christ for dancing in a movie. A good friend of mine wrote you a long letter telling you how disappointed she was in you for causing others to "stumble" with your sinful behavior. Just saying.

      Pat Boone?

"Time-honored guidelines, moral traditions, social taboos - all have just about evaporated"

From the man who forced his wife to give up smoking, drinking, and dancing, but then took those habits, as well as gambling, up himself? Granted he became a born-again Christian and quit those things when his wife (and Jesus) asked him too, but aren't those the worst kinds?

And where does pedophilia enter the equation? Oh yea, I forgot, born-agains don't like homosexuals and think they are all wanting to diddle you kids...

Pat was always a "born-again Christian," but he was disfellowshipped by the church of Christ [which does not allow smoking, drinking and dancing] in 1971. He joined a charismatic congregation which approved of his speaking in tongues.

I've always wondered about the 'born again'. Are they saying God made a mistake the first time?

Actually, the term is redundant. Scripture says that in order to enter the Kingdom of God, one must be "born again" in Christ. So, basically a "born again" Christian is akin to being a Christian Christian.

You're right, Pat. It must be due to incessant efforts by gays to ban heterosexual marriage and encourage divorce.

Pat's right... why should we teach young children to be "tolerant and accepting" of those "others?"

Better to teach them hatred, fear and superstition!

I suppose Pat would say anything unfamiliar to him would be demonic, and therefore its okay to teach kids to hate it.

This either-or way of thinking is the danger of theocracy. And yet it goes against basic Christian doctrine, which is to love thy neighbor.

Here's the thing. Troglodytes like Pat have convinced themselves that, if you don't teach kids that Homosexuals are evil deviants, all of our children will somehow "choose" to be homosexual, or at least try it on for size. Do they really believe that the social stigma is the only thing preventing kids from being attracted to the same sex? Really?

Of course, those of us in the rational world know it doesn't work that way.

As hard as I try, I will never be able to get my head around the concept of homosexuals somehow putting an end to the tradition of heterosexuals falling in love, devoting themselves to each other, and producing offspring. As a species, our sexual and emotional desires are INERADICABLE, and there's nothing the homosexuals can do to destroy them. Sex is undefeated. Sex always wins. Look no further than the rate of increase in world population.

Maybe Boone can convince his fellow right-wing nutcase Rev. Moon to gather them up and marry them off in one of his gigantic loveless ceremonies.

That will surely solve the "problem," right?

Personally, I think Pat Boone is hilarious! Not intentionally, mind you, but still funny. I actually own this album, and once in a while, when I need a good laugh, I'll pop it in.

If you're unfamiliar with this masterpiece, just think 80's heavy metal classics, done in a cheesy, quintessentially Boonesque lounge style. I'd love to see his moralistic preachy nonsense juxtaposed with his cover of "Holy Diver."

One of the people I used to work with gave me the CD. I already was familiar with a few songs (No More Mr. Nice Guy, Smoke On The Water, etc) and always get a chuckle from the revised versions. Of course, I also am familiar with Big Band, Jazz of various types, as well as Rock and Country (which I mostly picked up programming an automated station), so it's interesting to hear how the same song can be done in different styles.
