Mediaite trolling in retracted rumors about Elena Kagan

May 10, 2010 9:40 am ET by Sarah Pavlus

Fewer than 12 hours have passed since the news broke last night that Solicitor General Elena Kagan would be President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, and already Mediaite has posted a story about the heat Kagan's "personal life" will take, noting: "Though her judicial resume is thick, there are several issues that are most likely to become talking points in the coming weeks and months." The first "issue" listed? The retracted rumor that Kagan is a lesbian:

Her Personal Life. There have already been published reports about rumors that Kagan is a lesbian, but the most notable report (published by CBS News) has since been retracted. Kagan is a 50 year-old single woman, and would not be the only unmarried Justice to serve on the Supreme Court. In fact, David Souter was never married, but faced much less scrutiny as much of his term was served in a pre-blog era.

Not surprising for a website that has essentially admitted Matt Drudge is its assignment editor.

Ms. Kagan is about six months older than me. In that time, she has built a stellar career and collected an impressive resume with lots and lots of people describing her as the most intelligent person they ever met. Does it occur to anyone, that in the time I was raising my children and nurturing my marriage by spending years at home or underemployed, she might have been even more busy with her career? Justice Sotomayor was describe as a wonderful person, but too busy to be married. The same is probably true with Ms. Kagan. In any case, she is entitled to a private life, I don't care if she is gay or not.

Does being straight or gay have any bearing on her qualifications? Nope!

Her qualifications, no, but perhaps how she will view a case, yes. We are all a summation of our experiences, who we are influences how we see things and the decisions we make. While being gay doesn't automatically make one more sensitive to gender issues, it might. But being straight doesn't automatically make one insensitive to gender issues. I hope her personal choices are as respected as her legal mind. I am listening to her now. I'm impressed.

      Aaaaaaaaaaand they're off!!!

I see we have the first slur of the nominee already making the round. So I'm taking odds now on who'll be the first right-wing talking head to point out that she's a lesbian.

Will it be Blimpaugh? Becky? Hannity? Drudge? Coulter(though why that guy would ever want people to focus on sexuality as a part of character is beyond me)? Simple Sarah?

Taking all comers on who'll be the first nutter to step up and start the smear campaign!!!!

The administration went to great lengths to dispel the rumor last week to have an entry in the CBS News blog written by Ben Domenech removed.Despite all these efforts sources in the know, continue to assert Kagan is best. Elena Kagan Personal Life http://usspost.com/elena-kagan-personal-life-9496/
