UPDATE: FOX Sports president says "serious elevated discussion" with Myers over Katrina comments

May 20, 2010 12:25 pm ET by Brian Frederick

FOX Sports President Ed Goren contacted me today to clarify that The Dan Patrick Show -- on which Chris Myers made his comments mocking the victims of Hurricane Katrina -- was actually owned by DirecTV and only carried by FOX Sports Radio. But then Goren stated that "there is now a serious elevated discussion with Mr. Myers." He added: "We'll keep you updated."

Goren's comments indicate that FOX Sports is taking Myers' comments very seriously and he was not merely blowing smoke yesterday when he stated that "there will be internal discussions."

On Monday, Myers referred to the victims of Hurricane Katrina as "standing on a rooftop trying to blame the government" and to the citizens of Nashville as "hardworking, tax-paying, legal American citizens."

Myers hosts FOX Sports' NASCAR coverage, as well as contributing to its MLB, BCS and NFL coverage.

From Monday's edition of The Dan Patrick Show

It's a great country here. We have disasters issues when people pull together and help themselves and I thought the people in Tennessee, unlike -- I'm not going to name names -- when a natural disaster hits people weren't standing on a rooftop trying to blame the government, okay. They helped each other out through this.

And Mike Helton, president of NASCAR, Tony Stewart, among some drivers went from the race over to the middle Tennessee area where still a lot of hardworking, tax-paying, legal American citizens have been affected by the floods and are trying to rebuild their lives and they are helping out. And I think that other people around the country, of course the music industry in and around Nashville helping, without making a big deal out of it and I think that's a good thing.

Good...and, as a New Orleanian, screw you, Chris Myers.

        "serious, elevated discussion"

That's where they go up to the top floor and drink beer. "Chris, ole boy, you gotta be a little more subtle when you dump on the minorities."

        Exactly.

Ironically the MMfA blog post before this one is: Fox Nation absurdly accuses NPR of playing the "race card" in Rand Paul interview.

I hate to say anything favorable about Rupert the Mad Baron, but I have to give him credit for keeping FOX News and its positions separate from FOX Sports and, for the most part, FOX Entertainment. Whatever complaints baseball fans have about Tim McCarver, Jack Buck, and the idiotic -- and now gone, apparently -- Jeannie Zelasko, they were never political. And we forget that it was FOX Entertainment that brought blcak comedy to broadcast tv with In Living Colour, brought the anarchy of The Simpsons, and, in Greg House gave us the first lead character, or character at all, who was both an outspoken atheist and scoffed at religion as 'superstition.' (Interestingly, Dr. Wilson had a conversation with him about whether he should encourage a dying patient's beliefs, but made it perfectly clear that he agreed with Greg that the beliefs were false.)

So I will not at all be surprised if FOX Sports sends Myers packing.

      "serious elevated discussion"

Chris, FNC tells us they are looking to replace Glenn Beck, and we feel you might just be the man for the job.

Wow. After being bloodied by mmfa's belles-lettres cudgel poor ole Ed Goren is quaking in his boots...reporting directly to the crack staff at mmfa.

After ratcheting up from "internal discussions" to that ominous "serious elevated discussion" what's next for Myers? A trip to the principal's office"
