With O'Keefe's plea, when will Breitbart apologize to New Orleans law enforcement?

May 26, 2010 2:02 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

The long-expected news came today that Andrew Breitbart's protégé, and fake pimp, James O'Keefe plead guilty for his role in the Keystone Kop adventure from last January when he and his right-wing friends dressed  up as telephone repair men and entered the New Orleans offices of Sen. Mary Landrieu. Not a good idea.

Today, O'Keefe and pals plead guilty to entering property belonging to the United States under false pretenses.

As I said, that was never in doubt, in part because O'Keefe and company quickly admitted to the scheme. But that didn't stop Breitbart from concocting all sorts of loopy talking points and half-baked defenses for O'Keefe, who was being paid by Breitbart at the time of his New Orleans arrest. (Yes, Breitbart was paying O'Keefe a salary, but Breitbart claims he had no idea what his employee was doing at the time.)

One of the more comical claims that Breitbart made during his desperate attempts at spin control last winter was to attack New Orleans law enforcement. as well as the Dept. of Justice and even Attorney General Eric Holder, and claim there were all in a wide-ranging conspiracy to frame O'Keefe. (Because he's just that important!)

Behold the incoherence:

And yes, there was this:

Of course, the U.S. Attorney's office for the Eastern District in Louisiana denied the absurd charge.

But now that O'Keefe has admitted his guilt, isn't it time for to apologize? After all, if O'Keefe really had been framed, why would he plead guilty? His guilty plea basically demolishes Breitbart's crazy cover-up talk from last winter.

And Andrew, you really ought to stop bashing law enforcement. That's not a very conservative value!

I like this comment from Boehlert...

"Hence, you get this wild theory about massive government corruption with the aim of destroying the reputation of one 25-year-old non-journalist."

It's simply another example of someone on the right trying to pretend that they (or someone they support) is a victim, when the person is NOT a victim at all!

O'Keefe is NOT a victim here. He wasn't a victim of any wrongdoing by anyone in law enforcement or the judicial process. There was no gov't corruption, much less massive corruption. O'Keefe and his buddies used an illegal tactic to try to frame Senator Mary Landrieu - O'Keefe wasn't framed.

The Underwear Bomber did not get access to an attorney "Right Away", he was interrogated for hours, then went into surgery. James O'Keefe turned himself into the "Badguy" on ACORN as the California Attorney Generals review of the unredacted tapes show. These people are a pack of entitled, delusional whiners.

O'Keefe's on probation, but still being investigated for criminal wiretap charges in several states related to his ACORN tapes - he's going to prison, if not right now - eventually.

We can only hope. Maybe it would actually open his eyes as to what life is really about.

            YEAH!
It would open up what these wingers think of as their 'minds'. (Where all their bright ideas and major factoids actually originate!)

So is this going to be like the last interview where James couldn't say anything other than agree with Hannity's talking points about a massive government conspiracy against him?

Remember "sit in jail w/o attorney for hours" was a marvelous confabulation. It's true the O'Keefe was without an attorney while he was held under arrest, because the attorney had to clear his busy docket to come perform triage for this stupid stunt his client had perpetrated. At no time did authorities withhold access to counsel. It's just that it took a while for counsel to show up. By this you can see the depths to which the right wing will descend, as they attempt to tirelessly exploit the slightest of details to fuel their endless and unceasing claims that they are being persecuted and victimized at the hands of big government.

Media Matters should look into who's funding Andrew Breitbart, I usually know the who's who in the right wing media but I haven't heard of this guy until he start backing O'Keefe and Giles when the whole ACORN story blew up.

And guys like Breitbart are usually the loud front guy for a rich right winger with too much time and money on his hands.

If Breitbart really didnt know what his paid employee was doing when the latter was arrested for criminal activity, perhaps his company is in need of some serious regulation?

I mean, their star reporter was clearly on the field gathering a story specifically for the Big sites...
...its well known that, just before the bust, James was at some swanky right-wing party, bragging about his special new project. So clearly he was on the field as per his job at BigGov.

But in executing his job, he acted in an explicitly criminal manner, and by extension implicated his company in that criminal enterprise (precisely because he must have been working on a BigGov story.)

Well, i guess Breitbart holds his employees to no reliable standards.

That's a shame. And if anything, it proves that neither Andrew nor his employees can be responsible (even in the most basic sense) when left to their own devices.

Considering the amount of time, energy and resources which was wasted by James for the sake of his stunt, its evident that Breitbarts negligence is causing a needless disturbance in the public. In fact, its hindering the real which job law-enforcement should be doing, by distracting it with all sorts of trumped up, falsified and irrelevant non-sense.

As rightly stated by Judge Duval, on May 19, regarding O’Keefe and his pals,

...(their actions) have taken up the precious time and resources of this government which could have been used to prevent other crimes and to protect those who rely on these officials for their safety at work,....

Moreover, the ramifications of these defendants' actions may result in a public building being less accessible to law abiding citizens.

Chaos for glory, eh? More like making a scene for just to hype up bogus partisan paranoia.

Its pretty negligent (but very telling) that Breitbart takes no responsibility for this.

All the same, I am sure that very soon James is going to waste everyones time all over again..., I am even more certain that hes going to do something very, very stupid and self-defeating in the process.
