Fox Nation now lying about their boss

June 24, 2010 3:05 pm ET by Matt Gertz

Last week, highlighting Fox Nation's absurdly false claim that President Obama had turned over a "Major Strip" of Arizona to Mexico, Media Matters' Jamison Foser asked, "What lie won't Fox tell?" Today, Fox Nation reveals that they're even willing to lie about their own boss, as long as it helps them push their right-wing ideology.

Here's the backstory: News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch has joined several other CEOs and big-city mayors, including New York City's Michael Bloomberg, in a new organization that is "advocating for immigration reform -- including a path to legal status for all undocumented immigrants now in the United States." This morning, Murdoch and Bloomberg appeared on Fox News' Fox & Friends to discuss the coalition.

Fox Nation headlined their story on the interview, "Murdoch and Bloomberg Agree: Border Security First."

Good grief.

That headline is just a lie, as the video of the interview the post links to makes clear. Bloomberg and Murdoch are not calling for a "border security first" approach to immigration. In fact, Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy introduced the segment by stating that the coalition says that "we need a comprehensive immigration reform plan that secures our borders and helps America keep up with global competition." Doocy later said that the partnership wants to "secure the border" and provide a "path to citizenship" for undocumented immigrants.*

A comprehensive immigration plan with border security measures and a path to citizenship? That's not McCain-style "border security first," it's the Obama immigration plan.

It looks like Fox isn't just hiding their anti-immigrant rhetoric from Murdoch; they're also hiding Murdoch's more progressive immigration position from their viewers.

*This post previously stated that neither Bloomberg nor Murdoch mentioned border security. Murdoch did mention border security, but did not endorse a policy of "border security first." Bloomberg did not mention border security. I regret the error.

Wow, this is stunning. You would think this would really bother Murdoch. Distorting or misrepresenting someones words or position is quite offensive. Either the Fox news audience is really stupid, or just their management is.

I've come to believe the management knows exactly what it's doing. They are far from stupid, they know who their audience is, and they know how to sell them stories.

It could be that they play both sides to provide cover for the more extreme right wing stuff. After all they run Family Guy and the Simpsons which are fairly liberal.

Fox Entertainment has always been less Murdoch-directed than are the 'news' shows. Remember that, besides THE SIMPSONS and outher cartoons (and the TRACEY ULLMAN SHOW that started them) they also ran the first 'blacxk-o4riented' sketch comedy show (IN LIVING COLOR) and the first show, afaik, which featured an outspokenly anti-religious atheist as the main character (HOUSE).

Well, I guess that settles it... Murdoch and Bloomberg are "far-left, open-border advocates." You can't possibly talk "comprehensive" and be part of the political right. :-D

What the heck is this line??
Does Murdock have an imigration plan that includes creating a new tier of second class citizen that can be legally paid less than minimum wage??
