Williams' ouster drives home NAACP's point

July 19, 2010 8:45 pm ET by Matt McLaughlin

It looks like the NAACP was right about tea party members "who use racist language."

The civil rights group last week passed a resolution that condemned "extremist elements" within the tea party movement and called on the movement's leaders to repudiate the use of racist language in tea party signs and speeches. Right-wing media figures went nuts, claiming they couldn't find any racist tea party signs, and accused the NAACP of playing politics and engaging in "left-wing McCarthyism."

But for the folks who said they couldn't see any racially charged rhetoric coming from tea partiers (despite the numerous examples that already existed), Mark Williams emerged as uncomfortable evidence to the contrary. Williams wrote a July 15 blog post attacking the NAACP as racist for using "colored people" in its name. Williams' post portrayed blacks as lazy and NAACP leader Ben Jealous as supporting the repeal of civil-rights laws so that "massa" would again take care of blacks. Williams' post was so incendiary that he was forced to remove it, and the National Tea Party Federation has since announced that Williams and the Tea Party Express have been expelled from the federation.

Jealous, the NAACP's president and CEO, issued a statement responding to Williams' ouster. From Jealous' statement:

We call on the major leaders of the Tea Party such as Sarah Palin and Dick Armey who have not spoken out to do so.

It is encouraging to know that the Tea Party can act in unison through the Tea Party Federation and take decisive action. We call on the Tea Party to police its events and make it clear that there is no space for racist signs and hate speech.

We look forward to being able to have a civil political discourse with the Tea Party on the serious issues facing all Americans."

Oh...and do you REFUDIATE the racism of Mark Williams and Teabaggers?

Well, you must remember that, to wingnuts, Negro Racism is equivalent to twenty instances of White Racism. They wouldn't call Williams a racist if he burned a cross in front of a black church while he goose-stepped and screamed racial slurs, but Barack Obama is a racist because he called a stupid cop stupid.

Tea Party Express made their money. Doubt they couldn't care less about the NAACP or the federation or anything else other than their bank accounts. They were run by and invented by a bunch of Republicans as a way to make some money. MMFA linked to piece way back on their history and it was just a ruse to make money. Does anyone really think they care about the tea party movement or anything else other than making a buck? Sell the bus and move on to some other money making venture ripping off the public.

This is hardly anything like being kicked out of the democrat party.

William's ouster however does nothing to support Ben Jealous' lies that tea party members were carrying signs that said lynch Obama and Holder. And NOBODY has shown any evidence to the contrary.

Here is an example of the fine conduct of the NAACP and the Obama administration.

But that woman is a hand picked member of the Obama administration. And if you are going to claim that the tea party is racist because of the conduct of a few, you must expect the same standards for your hero Barry. But let me ask this question, which is more significant, the conduct of an individual in a grassroots movement with limited national organization or the conduct of a hand picked member of the Obama government? It seems pretty clear to me.

And BTW, I didn't call Obama a "boy" in the sense you are trying to imply, I said we shouldn't have sent a boy to do a man's job, referring to his obvious lack of exective experience . He is simply in over his head.

And one other question, what do you think of Obama's flip flop on health care, last Sept he argued that the mandate to purchase health care was not a tax. Now he is saying it is a tax. Stealth taxation. Another broken promise. But he did pick a nice dog.

. And if you are going to claim that the tea party is racist because of the conduct of a few

Straw man #1. The NAACP resolution never claimed the Tea Party was racist, it called on the leadership to condemn the racist elements within it. Which, by ousting Williams, is exactly what they've done. Similarly, Tom Vilsack, your new girlfriend's boss, dismissed her for those remarks.

And BTW, I didn't call Obama a "boy" in the sense you are trying to imply, I said we shouldn't have sent a boy to do a man's job, referring to his obvious lack of exective experience . He is simply in over his head.

"I didn't call him a boy, I just called him a boy." Got it.

And one other question, what do you think of Obama's flip flop on health care, last Sept he argued that the mandate to purchase health care was not a tax. Now he is saying it is a tax. Stealth taxation. Another broken promise. But he did pick a nice dog.

What does this have to do with ANYTHING? Why can't you just stay on-topic? Why is it so hard? Drag your dull, meth-reddened eyes to the top of the window you have open. Read (probably while moving your lips) the words at the top. From that, you should be able to discern the topic of this post. I dunno about you, but I don't see anything about health care reform up there, so I'm not answering your dumb leading question, because it has nothing to do with the thread. In the words of our worst president ever, go f--k yourself.

It is also worth noting that the NAACP official who claims the NAACP repudiates Sherrod's comments, didn't bother to repudiate them until now, despite the fact that the comments were made in March. I guess what he really meant was that they repudiate those kinds of remarks when they get caught. When no one is watching, anything goes. What a fine organization.

If you call this overt racism, then we wouldn't even be having this discussion about the Teaparty not being racist!!Some of the signs and interviews have been quite overt with the racism
Whenever there is a racial component to an issue with this President,he is called racist by somebody..usually white conservatives. This incident has nothing to do with the President but you, like Fox News and the usual right wing attack dogs make it ALL about race.
If a White President had sided with White Cops against Dr Gates,I am sure you would be defending him if anyone called him racist. If a white president proposed the same agenda, would use of the word reparations be made to describe something benefitting more white people than black!!?
The use of Acorn and TNBPP have been used the same way, paint the Black President as a radical black racist.Forget any facts to show a connection,he's black..that's enough! If you use the standards that you have already stated then GW Bush is racist for pursuing virtually no minority civil rights cases and pushing "reverse " discrimination cases as a top priority. If you worked with or were a member of an organization that had members who also belonged to the KKK,you'd be associated as closely as some of the guilt by asscociation attacks on the President(ie Bill Ayers!!)
Did Rev Wright( who served in a segregated Marine Corp) say anything as incendiary about the government as Teaparty leaders, and right wing talk radio do every day!He certainly never talked of sedition or revolution, never talked about guns!He only pointed out that some of Amrica's activities were not in keeping with scriptures or constitution and were causing some countries to hate us and attack us(Chickens cominghome to roost). For that he was blasted non stop.Glenn Beck and Rush limbaugh speak of the government so derisvely and seditiosly, they seem treasonous, but make millions of dollars doing that!!!!
It is quite clear that white criticism of the government is fine but any thing other than glowing praise from a minority is somehow racist or unpatriotic!!The President says we will use diplomacy as a better 1st option in International relations and he is called an unpatriotic apologist!!!Rush Limbaugh calls the democratically elected Presidential administration a "Regime" and many patriotic conservative voters cheer him on!!!That's an insult to all Americans!

A textbook example of what happens when a wingnut runs up against irony, satire or any attempt at humor.

Yes, you did use the word properly. That's not the point Soze was trying to make. It was a reference to your Saintly Sarah the Twit's recent twitter, butchering another multisyllabic word.

She forgot the first commandment of wingnuttery. Stick to 2 syllables unless referring to a well know talking point for example:

That's because fairliberal is a true authoritarian follower. Her authority figures on Fox have told her what she is supposed to believe . . . she will not deviate from that information even when presented with stacks and stacks of REAL evidence to the contrary or even when it goes against values which she claims to hold dear. She HAS to believe them.

So let me get this straight. When it's the left that gets caught saying racist statements it's "obscure", and when it's the left that has party members holding billy clubs in front of polling places they're just an "obscure" organization.

Got it. Just so I'm on the same page.

The N00b Black Panthers aren't obscure; no one said they are. They're just tiny, fringe, and not taken seriously by anyone but terrified white right-wingers who assume every black person they see is about to jump them.
And yes, the USDA woman IS obscure. Had you heard of her before she gave you this massive persecution boner that you're so feverishly flogging? Didn't think so.

Well, the NBPP IS an obscure organization, who, have said themselves, they have less than a couple dozen members. If that's not obscure, I'm not sure what is.

No, when the left makes a potentially racist statement, we hold them accountable for it, and this whole hullabaloo about this woman in GA that nobody has ever heard of, has resigned her position after her statement. That's called, accountability.

So you are defending Tea Party racism by pointing out something that has happened on the left side of the aisle? I just want to be clear at what you're defending here, because I'm pretty sure I've seen nobody on here defend what the NBPP did at the polling place, nor what some low level flunky in the AG department said.

The only minority that needs to worry about all of the race card throwing is the liberal left. America and it's people of all race color and creed don't believe you anymore.
You are the rich paranoid dweebs who graduated from the high school debate team free buffet committee to the college level political free buffet committee to the local and state government free buffet committee, and on to a Washington career. American life has always been just a social buffet for you and the dumb 'workers' are depending on you to help them. How dare you?
You are the self righteous, smug and Marie Antoinette styled racists who believe that you know who deserves social justice and where to throw the tax payers money.
Come November, bye bye. And good riddance. Unless of course the election is halted by a construed crisis. I end with a quote from Bob Dylan's "Infidels" album; "I can see the day coming when your own garden will be against the law!" Yes, Dylan. Think harder, idiots.

First of all I am African American. Secondly, I don't condemn all whites Americans for slavery. However, tell me how in the world does condemning "extremist elements" within the tea party movement and calling on the movement's leaders to repudiate the use of racist language in any way amount to a victimization rant? Are you serious? Due to the response, we could infer there is still a special type of anger directed towards blacks in America. It sounds more like some Americans are tired of ANY form of “action” that defend or advance African American interest but, this group is not the "National Association of Black Americans." Likewise, the "call" is not only for racism against blacks. So, what is the problem here? I do feel blacks should stand out just as strongly on hatred against other groups such as Jews, Asian, Latinos, and gays but why is it when an African American speaks out against "racism in general" (such as this one) blacks are the primary group (not the only) to get lashed out? Yet, all ethnic minority groups (including other non American blacks) benefit when the dust settles and still get to play, the model minority? How is this fair? Oh yea, but who said life was fair?

Fakeliberul is a lying bigot just check out her post in the article on Faux news hyping the NBPP scandal 97 times where she denies ever questioning Obama's Christianity, of course she did last week saying something to the effect of maybe Obama preys to Allah and not God. Yes she said that. She goes for any story no matter how factually challenged to spout her bigotry. She still refuses to apologize for her many post in which she attacked ACORN over the phony edited tapes of O'keefe,Brietbart and Faux News, and has basically pushed the republican line that it was the poor and people of color who caused the housing crisis. Of course you know she would jump at Fauxs dogwhistle NBPP/Wilie Horton attempt. Ms. Paris Business Review does not hesitate when the issue of "race" comes up on any issue to attack people of color and the president. This women is a bigot and has lost all creditability.
