Breitbart blogger agrees: Fox News did peddle Sherrod story before she resigned

July 27, 2010 4:42 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

Well, at least we're making progress.

Taking up the lost cause of online Fox News defender Johnny Dollar (whose work I already debunked here), a Breitbart blogger tackles the very, very important issue of when exactly did Fox News started smearing people with regards to the Shirley Sherrod story.

Last week I went on MSNBC and suggested that as the story first broke, Obama administration officials were wrong to give credence to a smear campaign being peddled by "Fox News." Johnny Dollar claimed I got it all wrong because nobody at Fox News reported or commented on until after she resigned on July 19, which of course, is not accurate

Yesterday, I patiently pointed out that "Fox News," in the form of FoxNews.com, did in fact "peddle" the Sherrod story long before she resigned with a report that was picked up by right-wing bloggers. And yes, Johnny Dollar was forced to concede that I was factually accurate on that point. ("Yes, there was a post on foxnews.com.")

And now a Breitbart blogger has done the same. (Albeit with lots of name calling.) So now everyone agrees that I was right to say "Fox News" peddled the phony Sherrod story prior to her resignation.

Thanks for playing guys! And say hi to Andrew for me.

It seems to get lost in the "absolute" time-line, but it's been pretty much accepted that Sherrod was asked to resign because the story (almost definitely with edited video) was going to air on Glen Beck that night. It was obvious that Fox was about to run with it.

Got to love the idea that this Warner Todd "I'll Never A Response From Any Woman If I Post My Incredibly Ugly Big Journalism Photo On A Dating Website" Hudson is taking the idea that just because little ol' Fox News dot com ran with the story before Sherrod was fired, well, that doesn't mean anything. Sure, it's the same network, but it was just one little story on one little website. And just who is going to pay attention to something that's been posted on a website?

Well Mr. Warner Todd "There Are Mashed Potatoes Stuffed In My Head To The Point Where They Are Overflowing Into Those Huge Bulges I Call Cheeks And Into A Good Portion Of Chins Two Through Nine," Hudson, you're a professional blogger on a website that sells ad space. You want to offer the "nobody reads that stuff anyway," argument the next time you're submitting a post and asking, "Oh, by the way; when will I get paid?"

Didn't O'Reilly tape his show at 5 PM and disparage the woman by saying she should be fired. So what if it aired at 8PM. If she had resigned by then, they could have editted his comment out, the inteire story out, or put a crawl saying she had resigned/fired. Fox did neither. They DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!

He's really missing the point, though. It doesn't matter whether FoxNews starting running with this story after Sherrod has resigned...they ran with the story:

      A) NOT KNOWING she had resigned
      B) with the same incomplete story that Breitbart did, making them just as culpable for the misinformation that was spread about Sherrod.

And since I have yet to receive a response from any ring-wing comments/forums (esp Hannity's forums), I still want to know why Fox didn't cover the Williams/letter to Lincoln from colored people debacle with the same gusto as this story. THAT was racism and Fox pretty much left it alone, continuing to deny deny deny that there's any racism from the Tea Party people.
