WashPost TV critic smears ABC's Amanpour as possible Taliban sympathizer

This is really just beyond the pale.
Everyone knows that Post critic Tom Shales can't stand Christiane Amanpour and has what is now officially a creepy obsession with belittling her work. Shales began his rather unsightly campaign back in March when ABC announced Amanpour would be taking over as host of ABC's This Week on Sundays. (Shales objected to the Amanpour choice because conservatives objected. Or something.)
So naturally when Amanpour made her debut this weekend, Shales panned her work. (She's too foreign!) And yes, he did it in weirdly personal and catty way, referring to Amanpour as a "globe-trotting Fancy-Pants."
But this slight from Shales' critique was particularly hateful, uncalled for, and completely unprofessional [emphasis added]:
Perhaps in keeping with the newly globalized program, the commendable "In Memoriam" segment ended with a tribute not to American men and women who died in combat during the preceding week but rather, said Amanpour in her narration, in remembrance of "all of those who died in war" in that period. Did she mean suggest that our mourning extend to members of the Taliban?
Are you kidding me? Shales really suggested that on her network debut, Amanpour gave a shout-out to members of the Taliban who died in combat last week? What is wrong with this man and when will Shales have the decency to extend an apology to Amanpour?
Here's the full clip of Amanpour's "In Memoriam" segment. Shales must have been the only viewer on the planet who thought Amanpour was honoring fallen terrorists on ABC yesterday.
UPDATED: Not surprisingly, Shales' cowardly attack, which he had to invent, has been picked up by the right-wing media haters. Here, Newsbusters claims Amanpour would "mourn Taliban deaths."

...but now he's given a talking point to every rightwinger who wants her off the show.
Or is he repeating a talking point he received from them?

What was she thinking?
Now if only he had remembered to shatter Goodwin's law while he were at it we would have a virtual hat-trick. What's up with not calling him a Nazi nerzog? You aren't going soft on us are you?

Nice! Keep setting that stellar example for me New Frontier, I'm studying hard and learning fast!
Truth To Power
Anyone who assumes that she, a person of Middle Eastern descent, is sympathizing with the Taliban (as opposed to other NATO allies who have lost their own soldiers this past week) has looked at her appearance and/or the spelling of her surname and gone Breitbart.
Of course you will. Now if my post only gets posted before this becomes a dead thread, maybe you can call me a racist too! Won't that be fun?
Truth To Power
He's also a bitter, effete snob who makes a living acting superior and telling people what they should think. Only dopes fall for it, though.
The Washington Post can't go out of business fast enough for me. On that point, I agree with the Far Right.
That fat man is more self-conscious about his own problems (that he projects onto everyone he reviews) than anyone I have ever read.
And, if Shales hates a TV program, I can usually count on it being a good program to watch. If he like something, that usually means it's horrid.
It sure seems to me like she's talking about all people who died in any and all worldwide conflicts on either side of the battlefield, and then specifically mentioned US servicemen.
Now, I don't have a problem with her expressing that empathy.
But to say, as Shales did, that her tribute to all those who have died in war didn't cover Americans ("ended with a tribute not to American men and women who died in combat during the preceding week but rather") is ridiculous, and to suggest that she's specifically rooting for the Taliban is even more offensive.
It's more of a, a few thousand innocent Americans died on 9/11 and how many countless innocent people of the Middle East have died in two bloody wars of oil and revenge, type of thing.
IMO
Keep up the good work, but please be fair.
