VIDEO: DC Central Kitchen founder responds to Limbaugh’s attack on non profit employees

August 18, 2010 6:40 pm ET by Karl Frisch

Last week radio host Rush Limbaugh said non-profit organization employees are "lazy idiots" and "rapists in terms of finance and economy." Have a listen for yourself:

DC Central Kitchen founder Robert Egger is fighting back.  He’s just released the following hard-hitting video taking El Rushbo to task for the comments while also attempting to get to the bottom of just whom exactly Limbaugh was talking about in the first place:

Wonderful!!! Good for them. I join you in your final "word" to Rush.

I, too, give that final word to Rush (and Glenn and Doocy and Sarah, etc.) on an almost daily basis when I am in the moment and can't believe what I just heard. In the context of a well-prepared speech in a well-produced short video, I wish Egger and the gang had not ended with that. Egger had just completed over 5 minutes of taking the high road and had done so with intelligence and inspirational good humor. The contrasting strength of Egger's message to the disgusting low-brow rant from Limbaugh was quite moving. The flip from everyone at the end seemed to me to return them to Limbaugh's gutter and, I think, would have brought a smile to his lips. This old public-speaking teacher would have recommended against it.

Agreed, Borealis. While I really, REALLY agree emotionally with their final "word," I wish that they had stayed on the high road, which would have accentuated the obvious differences so much better.

The ending is perfect. It's not polite, but Limbaugh just called them rapists. It's one thing to simply flip the bird. It's another entirely to explain, in detail and with clarity, why someone is wrong, and then flip them off with a big ol' grin on your face.

Because, you see, not only does Limbaugh not occupy the high road, he doesn't even own the gutter you think he lives in. He just got evicted.

Sorry, did it again: that would be Limbaugh; or would it be limburger, as in stinky cheese.

What did Limbaugh's rant even mean? How did he get from government to non-profits? That didn't make any sense at all.

Regardless, the video was a great response.

        wanderwoman:

It was a marvelous response. Limbaugh gives to charities of his choice; we all do. What surprizes me is that he is berating donors (hummanitarins and volunterism) who have given credence to his existence - Heavens, George H. W. Bush and George H. Bush.

The Bush family are a very old family in New England. They have given a lot of their wealth to non-profits. They have given money to Yale, and their feeder schools. George H. W. supported Americares (lazy people, I don't think so). The Red Cross - in Fairfield County - give me a break.

Spelling alert! it would be humanitarian. I am very angry at Limbaugh's rant against the Not for Profits.

It is so easy to write a check (isn't Rush?), then to get out there and do the hard work; like really be a leader. Members, who you wish to be a part of, and you can't be; get out there and do the work

They put their names, corporations and personal wealth on the line.
          Where is yours?

I started listening to that clip of Rush.. He starts out with a bunch of hand-waving about how 'rich' means $200k to the Obama administration, then cites a statement about 'millionaires.' This is the solid math he then builds upon to gripe about non-profits. Does he really think his audience is that stupid?

Also: If you click through, there's a place to donate to the DC Central Kitchen. Just sayin'.
