WATCH: Glenn Beck's egomania reaching comical proportions

August 26, 2010 11:05 am ET by Ben Dimiero

At long last, Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" self-aggrandizement festival is almost upon us. In Beck's words, the rally will mark a "turning point" in American history, where "miracles" will happen.

In a new promo posted on a "Producers' Blog" at his website, Beck humbly places the rally in the context of the moon landing, the Montgomery bus boycott, Iwo Jima, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and other landmark historical events. It also not-so-subtly suggests that Beck is following in the tradition of Martin Luther King (which is a farce), Abraham Lincoln, most of the Founding Fathers, Martha Washington, the Wright Brothers, and other notable historical figures.

To give you some sense of the egomania on display here, it starts with the line, "Every great achievement in human history has started with one person. One crazy idea." Watch:

Bonus amusement: this unfathomably egomaniacal video is preceded by Glenn Beck shilling for Goldline -- and a Goldline banner ad pops up during the video as well. That's just the sort of hucksterism the Founding Fathers were known for.

Here are some of the historical events and figures as they appear in the video, brought to you by Goldline (Trusted And Used By Glenn Beck).

Really, there aren't. I can't imagine what he is going to say, to reveal, that can be taken seriously after this. The man is ignorant and sacrilegious, what can he say? I admit it, I am dying of curiousity. I may have trouble sleeping Friday night because I have no clue what's coming next.

What I have done in the past is upload to my photo page on msn. I also post to the most relevant thread when I get home. I'll put a link in at least one or two threads.

The last time I did this in March, it took about 2 hours to get the photos uploaded and captioned. I was exhausted by the end of it all (4 hours in Congressional offices, 2 hours in transit and some time in a restaurant getting a really tasty Cuban style meal and then downloading.) I anticipate about the same on Saturday, but should have some pictures up by around 6 or 7 o'clock in the evening. This time I'm thinking we will try Ben's Chili Bowl, a local legend that I haven't visited, and in a part of the city that Maine Teabaggers were told to avoid, and we'll have to have something tasty to wash Beckie away.

Would that be a melanin enriched part of the city?

I live off the Yellow line, I have ridden it both day and night. I figure if I'm riding the Yellow line without trouble, Ben's should be okay, too. Somewhere there is a half-smoked with my name on it.

We need to just chill out. Beck will do himself in very shortly. We pay far to much attention to this purveyor of stupidity. The date he chose and the place he chose show how absolutely hedonistic this guy is. Imagine some yokel like this comparing himself to Martin Luther King. Just laugh at this silly person and do not act like he makes any difference whatever he does. His ego is gigantic and his acuity is in the single digits. He is just stuck on himself. But all this attention makes him happy as a clam. Ignore this dude and let him destroy himself.

Oh yes there are. This was long look inside the mind of Beck: a miasma of unconsolidated ideals absent any form/substance; an invocation of the good and the godly absent any coherent philosophy or creed; an exploitation of iconic imagery absent any linkage in deed; and a clarion call to euphoria through blind faith in Beck and his sideshow. All nicely wrapped up in a bow of naked commercialism.

One more piece of clinical evidence that Glenn is insane.

Yes, but too eerily similar in form and now (almost) content to the infamous pages of Mein Kampf. The form is similar--tons of ludicrous imagery, punctuated by images of pure violence ('rivers of blood') all to try to tap into racial resentments...

And yes, technically, this is psychotic speech. But psychotics like Adolph and Jim Jones have led masses to do horrible things...

Beck's rally will be a mockery of everything MLK stood for, but of course everyone knows that.

It's about making money and selling books. Simple as that.

Oh.. and Beck's egomania is worse then that. He thinks that "god" speaks through him.. I mean people like that usually are on street corners mumbling to themselves.. instead this guy has his own TV show!

oh.. and if god really did speak through him why has Beck failed at everything he has attempted the past 2 years?

I wouldn't say he isn't successful. After all he made upwards of $30 million last year.

BUT (and it's a big BUT) what he is successful at is being a shamless huckster and possibly one of the most divisive figures in recent history.

Nothing sells like hate and paranoia. That is why he's successful.

And all the people at 8-28 are going to be the most devoted dregs of Glenn's audience. The most hateful and paranoid of the bunch.

Guaranteed fear and loathing. Abandon all hope. Prepare for the weirdness. Get familiar with cannibalism. Good luck.

Well, he railed against Obama, and he was elected.

Then he attacked the stimulus bill. It passed.

Then he attacked the health care bill. It passed.

Then he attacked the financial reform bill. It passed.

But those are not undesireable failures to Beck and his audience of chronic lifelong victims. They don't actually want to win those arguments. To loose them is better. It prolongs and magnifies the victim and martyr complex. Speaking out from the wilderness like a tormented savant is easier than dealing with real issues. Ask any republican.

Nothing wrong with remembering great events and brave Americans as shown in the video. But you don't need bow at the feet of Glenn Beck and give him money in order to do that.

To draw upon another famous historical event: if Beck's ego ever gets punctured, it would result in a Hindenburg-like explosion.

The thing that worries me, really worries me, is that there are people out there that think he's some genuine teacher and historian. They believe his false histories. They believe the connections he makes are legitimate. They think he's telling them the truth, when he's selling them snake oil. I hope their numbers are small, but I'm worried they're not.

Your fears are well founded. Just look at how people crowd into the auditoriums to see faith healers, or how many nimrods are willing to send money to scam artists like Robert Tilton and Oral Roberts. Watch a John Hagee broadcast one Sunday and notice how many Troglodytes are packed into his cathedral, soaking up his eschatological fantasies.

There is no shortage of gullible sheep out there. Nostradumbass is just one more con man exploiting their ignorance.

This is going to be an event that will be remembered--like Mt. St Helens exploding? Like the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906? Those are the events that come to my mind.

      Here's what's really going down--

Beck: We are holding this rally to restore honor in America. We have invited all of you here to hear us. You will remember, and your grand children will remember. We will have some political speeches, but the real reason for us to restore honor, regain the momentum of the founding fathers is that Sarah Palin and I will be divorcing our spouses and getting married. I know she's an older woman, but we want to restore honor to the idea of defending marriage and getting married in the eyes of god.

Sarah: I will be running for president with Michelle Bachmann as my running mate. Michelle has agreed to run so that I can appear sane. And my next husband Glenn will be shilling for me and Goldline on his show. So everyone shoot off your guns, buy your gold and Glenn, God, and I will take it from there. And any gifts for us from you will help you get into heaven.

Jesus H Christ, what an utter sh!te advert, lets point some of the problems I had with it.

First off, big one for me, all this voiceover about America being the last great hope of Mankind and how the world flocks to America because its the only country thats worth anything. Load of bullsh!t, yes of ocurse its good of you to be proud of your country, and of course on an advert like this its perfectly understandable hyping up America as a country, but really qwhoever believes that fully is retarded. America has been prosperous and a good choice for people to move to, like Australia has been, especially recently, Canada has become a good spot I hear. Im Irish, so it could be pointed out to me how all the Irish went to America during the famine. But of course us Irish did not just choose America, quite frankly we infested everywhere, England probably more so than America.

Secondly, after over four minutes watching that advert, I still don't know what its about? four minutes and at the end I saw a picture for a rally, that restores honor, or something along those lines. Watch it again, but this time pretend you dont know what its about, you wont get anything from the advert, I can only presume its a day of celebrating America, is that it? Really, is it a rally designed just to get people excited and proud again of America?, that sounds good then, but then if you go by whjat Beck tells his viewers, it's taking back America or something, and Im confused then because the advert doesnt inform me who or what youre suppose to take it back from? Is this like Fourth of July mark 2 or something? Poor delivery on that adverts part.

Finally, funny little thing I picked up on, watch when Beck speaks at the start, when he consistently says Goldline, when its transitioning to the rallys advert, Beck says "Thank you Goldline" fairly certain he does anyway. What a retarded scrotum Beck is

The video reminds me of "Your Name Here," the generic industrial film from 1960. The game is simply to associated the "product" (shock-jock Beck and his shows, books, speaking engagements, and now "University") with every sentimental American touchstone imaginable.
Watch this, then compare and contrast:
