Fox Admits The Stimulus Created Jobs

Fox & Friends had an interesting segment today discussing the breakdown, by gender, of jobs created during “this economic recovery ... in the last year.” It was very interesting, because it required three Fox News hosts to make reference to “stimulus jobs.” Fox has been relentless in insisting, in the face of contrary evidence, that the stimulus didn't create jobs, “failed,” was “a failure,” “didn't work,” etc.

Fox & Friends co-hosts have been no exception -- their previous thoughts on the stimulus included co-host Brian Kilmeade saying, “You could argue that the stimulus package did more damage [to the economy] than anything else” and co-host Steve Doocy claiming that the stimulus “obviously didn't work.” (Doocy has been especially persistent in pushing this line.)

Yet today, both Doocy and Kilmeade, along with guest host Alisyn Camerota, managed to report with straight faces that there were, in fact, “stimulus jobs” created (emphasis added):

DOOCY: Alright. Let's talk a little bit about this. During this economic recovery, they are estimating that in the last year, 1.3 million jobs have been created. Extraordinarily, though, 90 percent of those jobs that have been created have gone to men. And when you think about stimulus jobs and stuff like that, infrastructure, a lot of construction, those are predominantly male-oriented professions, so it does make sense that they would go there. But they also say that maybe the recession is happening in waves.

CAMEROTA: See, I was stunned to hear this new statistic because -- remember it had been called the “mansession” because so many men had lost their jobs, and it was hitting men harder than women, and men were out of work longer? So this turns it on its head, that 90 percent of the jobs created have gone to men.

KILMEADE: And I just wonder how many are temporary to begin with. A lot of them were temporary stimulus jobs by “make work” projects, and a lot of those people who kept their jobs were because the cities received the money, and they were able to stay in their job. And now it's the time in which they would get laid off because that money's dried up.

DOOCY: That's right.

So now Fox & Friends is reporting that the “economic recovery” of “the last year” created “1.3 million jobs,” including ...“stimulus jobs”? And some people might “get laid off because that money's dried up?” I'm not sure where this moment of honesty came from, but I sure hope Fox News viewers were paying attention.
