One Year After Debunking Breitbart's "Slander," CNN Welcomes Him Back As Newsmaker
May 31, 2011 3:06 pm ET by Eric Boehlert
Proving once again that there's no standard by which many mainstream media outlets are willing to hold sloppy propagandist Andrew Breitbart, CNN this afternoon invited the discredited blogger on the air to discuss the Rep. Anthony Weiner (NY- D) Twitter story.
Conveniently setting aside the fact that virtually every attack campaign that Breitbart has launched in recent years has collapsed under the weight of modest scrutiny, CNN presented the fatuous blogger as some sort of expert who could walk people through the Weiner story, which he's been hyping for days. (The whole right-wing blogosphere launched itself into a creepy tizzy over the holiday weekend regarding the story.)
The invite was odd because last summer CNN's Anderson Cooper helped debunk Breitbart's shoddy Shirley Sherrod attack and announced the clips of Sherrod that Breitbart posted online "were clearly edited to deceive and slander Miss Sherrod." Cooper added that Breitbart's behavior was "a classic example of what is wrong with our national discourse."
And on CNN today, the anchor had to ask Breitbart why, in the wake of last year's Sherrod fiasco, anyone would take his claims seriously.
I'd suggest CNN producers should have asked themselves the same question before booking Breitbart today, and before they allowed him to go on the air and repeat crude speculation that the Democratic Congressman was having some "relationships" with "young women" and "girls that are quite young."
Note that the usual Breitbart rhetorical recklessness was too much for CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, who appeared right after Breitbart. Dismayed by Breitbart's "outrageous" insinuations about Weiner and "young girls," Toobin said it was "too bad that he got to say that stuff on CNN."
Agreed.

There really is no other way to describe them.
To our right wing trolls, THIS is what is known as a smear. Not repeating people's own words.
I think that is over their heads. You may need to repeat that, or add it as your signature. Repetition helps some people commit things to memory.
Lies And Porn: Andrew Breitbart's Brand Of Journalism
He is pushing this to the exclusion of every other news item on the planet. That's not news. That's an OBSESSION!
Shame on CNN...
Such as the Rep. Weiner twitter thing from this weekend.
Lazy ring finger.
One of the oldest philosophical questions regarding ethics, going back to Socrates, is whether it is better to "be a "just" person, or to be thought a just person. That question seems, in the last few decades, to have been rendered "quaint."
Breitbart is another one of those folks who I have NO IDEA who he is. I would say that the majority of Americans don't know, either.
If that's true, that's beyond pathetic.
You might not like it but, it is what it is!
Truth to propagandists!
-Shirley Sherrod
-the bizarre "The Blacks want your farmin' money!!!" conspiracy theory he made up to avoid apologizing to Shirley Sherrod
-ACORN
-the University of Missouri fake-scandal
Do you need more time, ManlyWarEagleofDoomWhoHasaTotallyNormalSizedJohnson?
Maybe it's me, but newsmakers are supposed to actually do something to make the news, and I wouldn't consider hiring a lawyer via Twitter news. At all. And I'm young! This social networking crap started with my generation... I just don't think we're using it responsibly. In 250 characters or less, politicians, pundits, etc. are all able to create their own headlines in just a few seconds.

I do love me some Rep. Anthony Weiner, nonetheless.
Come to find out, his account was hacked, and someone else was sending said pictures.
Could it be..........James O'Keefe??
Naw, he isn't bright enough to figure out how to hack someones Twitter account.
Considering some of the issues that Rupert Murdoch has in England some people say that a Faux News employees hacked the account.
Gee, why won't Weiner say if the picture was of him or not?
And why won't have the authorities investigate the crime he is alleging?
Cybercrimme, bintx.
Like before when he said cyber attacks were real and demand immediate attention.
Rep. Weiner in 2009: 'Cyber attacks...are real and demand immediate action'
Now, suddenly, they're not real and don't demand immediate action. Now they're merely 'distractions'.
You are such a toady.
Today, we see that Weiner is a complete fraud and a hypocrite who doesn't have the courage of his convictions. He might've survived the picture sent to a 21 yearl old, he is a Democrat afterall, but I don't see how he survives being proven a hypocrite. (Oh sh!t, I just contradicted myself, didn't I? He's a Democrat, what am I thinking he won't survive being proven a hypocrite.)
I would like to ask you a question.
Have you ever been the victim of identity theft?
I have.
Now, generally, i dont like sharing my personal narratives on the web (precisely because of the issue of hackers), but in this case I would like to make an exception, and share with you (as amicabally as we can be with one another) my own experinces in this regard.
On two separate occasions, my back accounts were hacked into, and overdrawn for a ridiculously large sum that threw me straight into red in a big (almost crippling) way.
I was (and, even several years since, still am) very alarmed by the whole affair. It really just makes me mad. Even to this day.
But on both occasions, when I reported it, i was told that the bank would handle everything.
I was told that it was their issue, and then was given an new account with all my funds reimbursed, and a sparkling new PIN. But it still burns me up that I dont know who did it... and that it could have happened twice. It angers me even more that some creep has my personal info. I mean, what if he strikes again, or tries to use my identity for something else?
But apparently, the banks policy is to pursue the investigation and charges thmselves. I just had to give them written testimony.
I dont like that process at all, because I really want to be in-the-know about what went down. But I dont have a choice. Bank policy is legal policy.
This same thing happened to my dads gmail account online. Someone took his identity and sent messages to everyone in his address book about my dad desperately needing money.
He was able to get his gmail account cleared and terminated, but the authorities at Google told him that it was their investigation, which they would take full responsibilit for.
He filed the proper reports with them (as I did with the bank) and then heard nothing more about it.
Like me, I know it burns him up that he cant find out more.
Also, on two well-known news-related web sites (I dont know if I should give their proper names, so I wont... lets just say they are popular), I had experienced a couple of very invasive assaults on my own privacy.
In both cases, i was arguing about Andrew Breitbart and James OKeefe, much like I do here on MMFA (which, for the record, is not one of times I am talking about.)
In both cases, other users on the sites (who were staunch advocates for Andrew Breitbart and James OKeefe) tried (very clumsily) to ferret out my location and post it online. They were trying (for some crazy reason) to prove that I was an ACORN employee (I am not, and never had been) and, despite being Breitbart fans who claim to hate invasive government, actively tried to find out where I live and post the info on these two sites.
Again, I reported the matter to the sites administration, and they told me that it was now their problem, and that they would handle it.
Other than the fact that one of the user accounts in question was terminated after I reported the matter, I know nothing about how the attempted invasion of my privacy (and i am certainly no famous person or governmental worker) by politically motivated hackers. The sites told me it was their issue and they would handle it.
So please, think about how hacking really is handled before you attempt to speculate with such animated gusto on this story. Remember, things happen in the offline world, and sometimes arent meant for tabloid titilation.
For example, there has been a lot of Drama in the Sherrod-Breitbart court case. Andrew Breitbart was recently trounced by Sherrods lawyers for trying to shift venues a second time.
But has websites offered any updates? Absolutely not.
He is very mum about the whole thing, probably becuase its not going in his favor... but who am I to say?
The right has certainly been quite accepting when both James and Andrew claim they cant or wont address important questions in their own scandals.
Breitbart's TwitterHoax - How It Went Down updated w/ smoking gun...
I'd concede that this was newsworthy if it didn't turn out that his account was hacked; but since it was, what is there left to discuss? They could have just read one sentence about it: Rep. Weiner's Twitter account was hacked, making it appear as though he was sending crude pictures to a young woman. "And now, on to the news." No need to bring on Breitbart, of all people, to have a conversation about it. Seems to me they just want people to associate "pervert" with Anthony Weiner.
Someone higher up probably has been pushing to try to get him on to do the proverbial 'mixing things up', he got a chance, and he blew it.
He got called out for looking like a moron, so saying 'welcomes him back' is hardly true... he won't be there again.
You want to lay money on that??
CNN hasn't acted that bright lately, I vote that they would bring him back on again, and again, and again. (stupid is as stupid does)
I follow the sites alot in my research studies. It's really depressing to read and view the readers comments. Occasionally I will add a thoughtful fair comment with constructive criticism and even that will be given a score of minus 50 and I will be abused by tens of people within minutes.
After the NPR 'scandal' debunking by the Blaze, I took to posting links to the takedown with commentary asking readers to keep an open mind, that we are all interested in the truth and that we should all agree innocent people should not lose their jobs for deceptive editing. My comment about the piece of tape that was actually moved to another part of the tape to make the man look like a terrible person was actually acknowledged by one reader...they admitted that the tape was tampered with and cut and shifted around etc and that it made the man look terrible and that it was unfair he lost his job. But even though he agreed with all these things he actually said 'so what?' and said that it didn't matter because NPR are liberal and deserve whatever they get and that even though the tape had been tampered with it didn't matter because it wasn't intended to be deceptive (I know can you believe it!!!!) and it got the required results and amused him so why not.
I'm telling you these are the people that will destroy America if they get the chance. Completely morally bankrupt but almost exclusively fundie xtians. VERY anti atheist readership. I'd go as far to say these people are fascistic.
MSNBC has Brock and Boehlert on all the time.
Same thing. Well except Brock abd Boehlert are on the Soros payroll.
As for the Soros payroll, well......
DRINK!!!!
Enjoy.
