The analogy is a good one. But it still fascinates me that after a decade of sensationalist Natl Enquirer-style "journalism", that the DC crowd still takes Drudge seriously.

It's not actual Americans that use Drudge as a news source.

It's the DC beltway insider Rush+Beck crowd that does that.

The idiot mainstream media has decided that because Drudge started the whole Monica Lewinsky ridiculousness, he must be a reliable, or at least legit, source. I hope and pray the same thing doesn't happen to Andy Bitefart now that he had his own "stopped clock" moment.

Drudge was a "Matt come lately" to the story despite his claims. LA Times national reporters broke the Troopergate story, which led to the Lewinsky incident coming under Ken Starr's microscope via Monica herself and Linda Tripp.

It's worse over on Teh Blahz. If some fight broke out in a fast food restaurant somewhere in America involving one or more non-Whites, a thread is created to allow bigots and racists to display their full plumage while crowing loudly. Of course, they are also usually the same ones who are outraged that someone would say they are racist or bigoted. Only Liberals who try to track populations to ensure that people are being treated fairly or getting equal access are the ones who are "the real racists". They feel any mention of race is wrong because they don't want to make sure that 13% of the population is getting services. If you don't track you can always deny that there's a problem.

These were local stories at best, & were in fact reported locally. So yeah Drudge does appear to be fanning the flames by including links on his website to appeal to racists everywhere.

Had anyone actually been hurt or killed, then maybe it becomes a national story.

I do check out Drudge from time to time, his sensational link headlines often don't match the actual stories.

Beyond that, violent crime is way down nationwide, and yet Drudge's narrative is clearly meant to be that there's a trend. Much like Beck, he spends a lot of time trying to appeal to old people who spent the sixties so terrified that they never noticed they had ended.

I agree. I've said the same thing about Blimpy Limbaugh. He is, in essence, the reincarnation of Archie Bunker... without any of Archie's charm or redeeming qualities. All of these Hate Radio hacks are still tapping into the resentment toward hippies, African Americans, and feminists that arose in the 60s.

That's it,phic, the GOP is heavily relying on that aging bulge in the demographic that the Baby Boom produced.

THis is one place where the right wing's aversion to having a long-term plan is going to benefit the country. I really don't think they're preparing for the inevitable shrinking of their base due to natural causes.

Several years ago, I had a girlfriend whose parents lived out in the central valley of California ( farm country, HQ of Freerepublic) and every time we visited, I heard about the "rash of home invasion robberies". If I went out to my car to get something, the doors were locked behind me in seconds, even in the middle of the day.

Eventually, I found an article in the local paper about this crime wave. It stemmed from a couple of incidents, the odds of being a victim seemed close to those of winning the lottery. But I heard the old folks discussing it often, and it always involved the different races that were moving in.

Yeah, I don't imagine Drudge or any of the right-wing radio squawkers are going to focus on Bulger's race very much.

This reminds me of something I saw recently that was pretty telling. I get a lot of right wing emails forwarded to me, and they never miss an opportunity to mention or suggest race.

Anti-immigration rants will include a photo of some dirty looking, dark-skinned people, or some gangbangers.

There was another one that included an article allegedly written by black conservative Walter Williams( Turns out, he didn't write it). The email mentioned that Williams "happened to be black", and featured a big photo of his face. It was a good excuse for the racists to chime in.

But then, a few weeks ago, I got another email. It was about a receipt found in a supermarket parking lot that showed lobster and steaks bought with food stamps. I did some Googling, and found the story at several right wing sites.

While most of the fury was about "socialism", there was quite a bit of thinly veiled racism directed at the food stamp fat cat. But there wasn't a lot of follow-up that I saw, nobody was digging into the story.

The first surprise I found; the story turned out to be true ( a rarity for a right wing email).

The second ( not so surprising) thing I found - the reason none of the wingnut sites were following up on the "perp".

On Druge's front page he has a article that says "french fries and fat fried pies for the First Lady in Botswana". Why is a balding fat old man complaining about what a healthy young woman like the FLOTUS eat. He constantly does this. It's as if they have to disrespect her somehow.

So I guess the First Lady is expected to refuse the food she's served on a diplomatic trip, so Drudge can do the "diva" angle (or possibly the "eating disorder" angle) instead of the "fatass" angle.

drudge only follows orders from the rightwing noise machine bosses. ailes, rove, luntz and bozell. newscorp is paying drudge a hefty amount to run talking points. this meme of the scary black man is what they do over and over again, [willie horton anyone?]. they now know that running that obama is the scary black man, like the did last time, didnt work, so they will run this idea in other ways..... if you need any verification of this, just read the comments section as soon as drudge links a story.

i know matt. i know matt doesnt give a hoot about his content, just making bookoo bucks.... he was living in squalor, during his LA days. you will note that for the past few years matt wont make any personal appearances, as he knows that this garbage is wrong... newscorp knows drudge's audience is mostly rightwing olderwhite and mostly illiterate. note that matt still uses ms word, to create his site, as he has since 95, when he switched from running a BBS while working at the old CBS radford lot in studio city, ca. [where i used to work] he was running the t-shirt kisok there, and running a local BBS, providing rumors about the goings on the backlot....

when you read drudge, you are reading direct talking points from the GOP.

the sad thing is, matt is nice kid, and is afraid to come out now, as he would be excoriated from the rightwing, for being gay...

this scary black and illegals, meme will be coming to a cable channel to you soon....

Why doesn't he do the same thing for white people then? Why even point out the race at all? Because, it's called trying to instill in the people the stereotype of the "savagery" (as you say) of black people.

As someone else mentioned, these are very local, very small stories. The only reason they could be mentioned on Drudge, is because he's trying to make white people scared of black people.

        That's it.

This is something that I've seen on website forums for years, and that explains a huge problem in trying to have a discussion with the far right Foxbot type.

Anybody who ever took a decent writing, logic, or critical thinking course in school, with a good instructor, or has read up on those subjects themselves, knows exactly what happens when a logical fallacy is introduced in an argument - Stop. Do not pass "Go", do not collect $200. The debate can't go any further until the mess is cleaned up.

I've seen it countless times, the offender has their problem clearly pointed out, is given links to definitions and examples of the fallacy they've abused, and the reaction is almost always the same; they want the other person to stop focusing on the fallacy, and to just continue debating with their flawed premise.

It's like they've been so programmed by the constant use of logical fallacies by their masters on the radio that they can't understand that it means they're losing the argument. They seem to think it's a legitimate and winning tactic.

Drudge's "Angry Black People Obsession" Continues Unabated

Surprised? pleaseeee, THIS is just the start of a really, really ugly 2012 campaign.

I could probably count on one hand how many people ever heard of Phylicia Barnes or Mitrice Richardson, but Natalee Hollway made the prime time news 24/7 too many times to count.

Caylee Anthony? Up to the minute coverage of her mother's trial after 2 years of continuous media coverage. But has anyone heard of Christopher Thomas?

In 2006 The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported 33% of the nearly 800,000, children under the age of 18 reported missing each year in the U.S. are African American. And Bob Herbert wrote a column titledWhat Color is that baby...
which sums up the media's complete indifference to African Americans unless it's gangs, drugs, poverty or welfare.

And here's the right-wing Drudge managing to find 5 stories about African American crime and not one story about Phylicia Barnes, Mitrice Richardson or Christopher Thomas.

The right-wing's Southern Strategy style racism marches on.

That's a very disturbing statistic. African Americans are only about 13% of the population, but a huge proportion of the missing and exploited. But what stories of missing and exploited children do we see? Pretty little White girls. Now, as a White woman and the mother of daughters, it bothers me that no one cares about other women's daughters as much as they would have cared about mine. It is not fair and it sends a clear message to the underrepresented communities. Their children should matter as much as rich little White girls, like JonBenet Ramsey.

here's the backstory from one of drudge's race bait links yesterday.

as it states, not only did this alleged incident not take place, the guy who wrote for a local blog, has a history of using race as a weapon. the cops there know this guy. yet, the media lets matt, drive the talking points even when they have not been double checked, like a real journalist.... but since newsweek didnt print the lewinsky story in 94, and someone emailed matt the story, the lazy media and newpapers have somehow made him assignment editor! matt is a high school dropout, and was struggling until that magic moment when he got the story of the stained dress....

drudge is getting major bucks from newscorp to run GOP talking points, from rove, ailes, bozell, and luntz. the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.
