The John & Ken Show: Gay Men Force Actresses Toward Emaciation Because "Gays Like Bodies That Remind Them Of 14 Year-Old Boys"

During the January 16 broadcast of Clear Channel's The John and Ken Show, co-hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou discussed the 69th Golden Globes Awards with news contributor Shannon Farren. While discussing how many of the actresses appeared to be "emaciated," Kobylt claimed that "gay guys control...the whole Hollywood look" and that because "gays like bodies that remind them of 14 year-old boys," actresses have to look like "14 year-old boy stick figures." From The John and Ken Show:
FARREN: I don't watch [awards shows] because every time I do, I just want to feed them a burger, every actress I see. I just want to feed them, they look so emaciated.
KOBYLT: I know they look so--that's not attractive.
CHIAMPOU: But that's the game though. They have to be more emaciated than the other famous actress.
FARREN: Yeah, and this is the time of year.
KOBYLT: That's right. And it's because--
CHIAMPOU: They get jealous and see photos of someone thinner than them.
KOBYLT: Gay guys control the fashion industry and the casting industry and the whole Hollywood look. And gays like bodies that remind them of a 14 year old-boy. Guys like curves. Guys like curves. Absolutely, positively. It's biological, because a woman with curves looks like she can bear your children successfully and that's biologically what a man is looking for. So sexually a guy is much more turned on by a woman with curves than these 14 year old-boy stick figures. And that's how I know for sure, I don't need to do any research or any proof that it's gay guys who control the entire casting industry.
Kobylt's claim that "gays like bodies that remind them of a 14 year-old boy" suggests that gay men are largely attracted to children and invokes the persistent myth that gay people molest children at far higher rates than heterosexuals In a 2010 post the Southern Poverty Law Center debunked this myth:
According to the American Psychological Association, "homosexual men are not more likely to sexually abuse children than heterosexual men are." Gregory Herek, a professor at the University of California, Davis, who is one of the nation's leading researchers on prejudice against sexual minorities, reviewed a series of studies and found no evidence that gay men molest children at higher rates than heterosexual men.
Anti-gay activists who make that claim allege that all men who molest male children should be seen as homosexual. But research by A. Nicholas Groth, a pioneer in the field of sexual abuse of children, shows that is not so. Groth found that there are two types of child molesters: fixated and regressive. The fixated child molester -- the stereotypical pedophile -- cannot be considered homosexual or heterosexual because "he often finds adults of either sex repulsive" and often molests children of both sexes. Regressive child molesters are generally attracted to other adults, but may "regress" to focusing on children when confronted with stressful situations. Groth found that the majority of regressed offenders were heterosexual in their adult relationships.
This is yet another example of Kobylt and Chiampou employing wantonly reckless language, a behavior they have previously employed to attack racial minorities. For example, on January 6, Kobylt said that "there's a lot of, like, Korean painter scam guys" and that "there's certain cultures that become involved in certain lines of work."
In a January 9 response to Kobylt's comments, Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), said:
CHIRLA is appalled to hear that once again The John and Ken Show dissed the Korean community for fun and ratings' sake. John and Ken will cease their immature and spiteful drivel only when they have been kicked out from the Los Angeles airwaves for good.
Last October, Kobylt claimed that Native Americans should "probably [have been] better warriors" when discussing the gradual seizure of Native American lands by European immigrants. Last September, the hosts, while talking about the California DREAM Act, said that the parents of undocumented children "took jobs from Americans, and now the kid is taking grant money from the American kid. ... So now the theft is complete. Two generations. They stole your employment, now they're stealing your kids' education." The hosts also frequently use the pejorative "illegal alien."
Additionally, last September, the hosts aired the personal cell phone number of CHIRLA activist Jorge-Mario Cabrera, who received hundreds of threatening calls as a result. The hosts denied responsibility, stating repeatedly that Cabrera's phone number was part of a press release, and therefore public information.
Clear Channel, KFI's parent company, later wrote a letter to NHMC president Alex Nogales defending the hosts' actions.
Currently, NHMC is engaged in a campaign to educate companies that advertise during a broadcast of The John and Ken Show, informing them about the racially charged, inflammatory rhetoric, frequenting the discourse between the hosts, emphasizing the hosts' anti-immigrant vitriol. In response to the NHMC campaign, prominent companies such as AT&T, Verizon, and General Motors have stopped advertising during the program.
Despite these advertiser retreats, Kobylt and Chiampou vowed in October that "nothing on the show is changing. We're going to talk about illegal aliens all we want," promising more of the reckless rhetoric that has led to numerous advertiser retreats.
The John & Ken Show airs weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. PT on KFI, a Clear Channel network, and reportedly has an audience of 1.2 million listeners.

People who have a clear fixation on homosexuality, are repressing or suppressing something. Just take a look at Rick Santorum.
New Republican party slogan!
Jon & Ken are full of sh*t.
;-)
I like the skinny look also, and there's certainly many explanations to why the bony look is as "in" now among actresses as it's ever been... but it's nothing new.
And it brings to mind Tom Wolfe's novel "The Bonfire of the Vanities" (a great read, hysterically funny and insightful and as topical now as ever).
In it, he refers to the wives of Manhattan's wealthiest and most powerful financiers as being "Social X-Rays" for how bony they are from the low calorie diets and constant working out they need, in order to maintain this emaciated look.
His (Tom Wolfe) description is funny and telling, for the word social, which seems to imply this bony look is a social grace, a source of compliments and admiration from friends and others... and I guess if you're a professional actress and especially a famous one, it's the same supposed social grace to be thin, multiplied by millions of people and millions of dollars.
One of the most important features for me is not visual - the voice. I hate ugly or empty voices (it may be the muso in me). In truth, a crucial quality for any sort of relationship is the ability to converse. Dumb-clucks are not pleasurable.
The thin look is nothing new, as Dem02020 said. It was very popular back in the 20s, then fell out of favor with the more voluptuous girls, like Marylin Monroe and Jane Mansfield.
People who bring up Wolfe, Twiggy, flappers, et al. are naive about the greater breadth of the image starting in the mid-90s through today. Compare the caustic tone Wolfe takes against his "x-rays" (in a book for an adult, educated audience) to the massive positive coverage of the Sex and the City crew (resulting in the "Scary Sadshaw" stereotype whose breadth in real life is/was far wider than Wolfe's world).
Add rampant PhotoShop to the mix (removal of hips, bulges, etc. the norm). Check some "Guess who hasn't lost her baby weight?" slideshows. I won't bother getting into the raft of other factors here, but I suggest you read up on EDs today before deciding it's just cyclical. Do you think, for that matter, that the obesity epidemic is hand-wavingly cyclical? Cuz' scientists sure aren't so reassured.
That is even better than what I was thinking. Is
"You can never be too rich or too thin."
in Bonfire? I vaguely recall it was a NY socialite/CEO trophy wife that said it.
I might have to read TBotV. As an RN fascinated by nutrition since I was 8 ('60) the emaciated look was and is disgusting. Magnolialover mentions slender women with good muscle tone as being attractive. True. And look at the too thin models. NO MUSCLE DEFINITION. NONE. It is not healthy.
Too many adolescent girls have not been developing the bone mass and pelvic proportions for pregnancy and delivery. Expect an increase in C section babies in decades to come.
Based on that statement, I can definitively say that Kobylt is mentally handicapped. I don't need to do any research nor do I need any proof.
Shall we go with the projection comment that these guys are calling Hollywood women emaciated and resembling 14-year-old boys, but then state the obvious that if any of these "emaciated" actresses came on to them in a bar, they'd be more than willing?
How about the obvious observation that some of you have already made--that Republicans seem to spend an inordinate amount of time talking about homosexuality. I mean, Christ, my roommate is gay and he spends less time talking about homosexuality than the Republican media does.
Just remember, folks: the media we broadcast is speeding away from us at the speed of light, and will be picked up by any intelligent race out there with the ability to capture radio sources. If they ever learn to translate this stuff, and ever get a grasp on our sociology, what will they think of us as a species?
And here I thought it was society pushing women to look as skinny as possible all these years, when in fact, it was gay men!!
Everyone knows gay guys obsess over stick-figure personalities like Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, and Bette Midler.
No wonder there's been an outbreak of anorexia among women.
How the HELL can GAY MEN influence the behavior fo WOMEN in the least?
...Never mind. These guys are making my head hurt.
