Miss Piggy: Fox News Is Not News

January 30, 2012 10:32 am ET by Todd Gregory

Last month, Eric Bolling did a segment on his Fox Business show warning his audience about the dangerous liberal messages allegedly embedded in the new Muppets movie. A graphic shown during the segment asked, "Are Liberals Trying To Brainwash Your Kids Against Capitalism?":

This resulted in widespread mockery of Fox. Bolling followed up with a series of embarrassing responses -- including challenging Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy to a debate.

Now, the Muppets have weighed in. As the website Dangerous Minds noted, the Muppets were in London last week for the U.K. premiere of The Muppets. During a press conference, Kermit and Miss Piggy were asked for their reaction to the allegation that they were "pushing a dangerous liberal agenda and trying to brainwash children."

Kermit said, "No, you know, it's a funny thing. They were concerned about us having some prejudice against oil companies. And I can tell you that's categorically not true. And besides, if we had a problem with oil companies, why would we have spent the entire film driving around in a gas-guzzling Rolls Royce?"

Miss Piggy added, "It's almost as laughable as accusing Fox News as, you know, being news."

Full video and transcript below the jump.

(h/t The Daily What)

QUESTIONER: Question for Kermit. Kermit, everybody who's seen the film loves it. It's suitable for kids, it's suitable for parents. But I've got to ask you how you felt when -- I think it was Eric Bolling from Fox News said it was pushing a dangerous liberal agenda and trying to brainwash children [unintelligible]

KERMIT: Oh, yes.

[laughter]

QUESTIONER: [unintelligible] horrible.

KERMIT: It's so dangerous. I'm so afraid! No, you know, it's a funny thing. They were concerned about us having some prejudice against oil companies. And I can tell you that's categorically not true.

And besides, if we had a problem with oil companies, why would we have spent the entire film driving around in a gas-guzzling Rolls Royce?

[laughter]

JAMES BOBINS (director of The Muppets): He's got a point.

MISS PIGGY: It's almost as laughable as accusing Fox News as, you know, being news.

[laughter and applause]

KERMIT: Boy, that's gonna be all over the Internet. You are in such deep water.

MISS PIGGY: Yeah. Yeah, if they take what I say seriously, they've got a real big problem.

[laughter]

KERMIT: Wow.

Looks like the next movie Piggy makes will be "The Muppets War on Fox News". I think Bolling probably figured he'd look stupid to some people for criticizing The Muppets. But he did it anyway to throw a little red meat to his followers. However I don't think he considered at all how stupid he would look when The Muppets started to criticize him and Fox News. And, damned if The Muppets aren't getting a better response than Bolling did.

People who watch "Sesame Street", are more knowledgable about the world around them than people who watch Fox News.

I think you're right, foole, these Foxbots sort of lose their boundaries living inside their bubble.

As dumb as Bolling seems to be, even he had to know his accusations against the Muppets were ridiculous, but he couldn't resist. He knew it would resonate with the average Fox viewer, who will hungrily gobble up anything that supports their hallucinations of liberal brainwashing.

The instant gratification of lashing out with conspiracy theories overrides any concern about being laughed at once those theories leak out of the hive.

and so influential too. I know that after I saw the new muppets movie I ran right out to OWS to go against oil companies. You know it wasn't the years of growing up in a certain mindset around friends and other cultures to come out liberal minded. Instead it was a two hour movie with dancing puppets and chickens doing a burlesque show.

I was going to try something similar, but decided not to since Rush is obviously who they meant as the first, but Hannity isn't green, and I can't think of anyone to go with that who's "green"...certainly not in the environmental sense, and you have to understand comparative analysis to have envy, so it can't be that either, only thing we are left with is "green" in the sense of being inexperienced...and I think they all have more experience slinging mud than your average citizen so I don't think that works either.

Well, I was thinking of Hannity in terms of being a rather small reptile that spends his days in mud and slime.

Frogs, as we know, leap when they're threatened. Well, how often have we seen Hannity, when in over his head during a topic, quickly leaps to a new subject.

And while his complexion may not be green, if you listen to him carefully you can't help but notice a distinct tone of jealousy in his voice whenever he talks about the Clintons or the Obamas. All four of them are a great deal smarter than he is, a great deal more articulate, and have achieved things he never will. While they'll be in the history books for hundreds of year in the next decade or two he'll be the answer to a tie breaker bonus question during trivia night at a handful of bars. I'll call him green with envy for that.

I'll give you a break, you probably didn't watch all the muppet movies. But in A Very Muppet Christmas Movie the Muppet Theater was registered as a historical landmark. Now, how many historical landmarks did you see in "So Cal" torn down for oil drilling, or do you suppose that governmental regulations in LA would prevent that?

How many oil wells did you see in the middle of the city? Or do you think that governmental regulations would prevent that?

I'm not making a point that these regulations are bad or good, but that the whole premise is faulty and they should let the children know that momma government has our backs when evil men like Tex Richman (oh too funny!!!) attempt to enter into an economic endeavor which will obviously bankrupt him.
