SUMMARY: CNN national correspondent John King falsely suggested that Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain "oppos[ed] the flying of the Confederate flag above the South Carolina State House" while seeking his party's nomination in 2000. In fact, during that race, he referred to the flag as "a symbol of heritage." McCain called for the flag's removal only after he had withdrawn from the race.
