Republican speechwriter called Moore, Franken "downright dishonest"

Mona Charen -- onetime speechwriter for former First Lady Nancy Reagan, syndicated columnist, and author of the 2003 Regnery Publishing release Useful Idiots: How Liberals Got it Wrong on the Cold War and Still Blame America First -- was a guest on FOX News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor on June 18. Charen accused author/documentarian Michael Moore as well as comedian and radio host Al Franken of being "downright dishonest"; host Bill O'Reilly agreed with Charen. Meanwhile, as Media Matters for America has documented, O'Reilly himself has made numerous dishonest statements in the past.

From the June 18 edition of FOX News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor:

CHAREN: Well, I really do think that there are a few people on the left, like Moore and Franken, who are downright dishonest in the things that they say about conservatives.

O'REILLY: No question.

CHAREN: I think you can say whatever you want, as long as you stay within the truth. And they don't make that standard at all.

Charen provided no evidence of Moore's and Franken's alleged mendacity.
