Boortz: Say the creed of Islam "with conviction ... and the next thing you know, you're strapping on a suicide bomb"

A week after Media Matters for America noted his false statement about Democrats (made during an appearance on CNN's Live From...), and on the same day he appeared on CNN Live at Daybreak, nationally syndicated right-wing radio host Neal Boortz used his August 3 program to deliver a rant on the world's second-most-practiced religion.

Thumbing through a book titled A Brief Illustrated Guide to Understanding Islam, Boortz read a list of topic headings -- "It goes into things like the universe, and the cosmos, and how wind moves clouds" -- before making his point: "I'm looking for the part in here where it tells them to go out and kill people who aren't Muslims. And then I don't see it."

After mocking the Shahada (the Islamic creed), "There is no true God but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God," Boortz revealed his thoughts on the religion: "Say that with conviction, folks, and the next thing you know, you're strapping on a suicide bomb."

Boortz's show is distributed nationally by Cox Radio Syndication and, according to statistics compiled by TALKERS magazine, has a national audience of more than 2.5 million listeners.
