Beck responded to An Inconvenient Truth: If "Shanghai is under water," "does anybody really care?"

Summary: On his radio show, Glenn Beck responded to a clip of the film An Inconvenient Truth in which Al Gore says that global warming could cause Shanghai to be submerged: "This is what would happen to Shanghai. Does anybody really care? I mean, come on. Shanghai is under water. Oh, no! Who's gonna make those little umbrellas for those tropical drinks?"

On the June 14 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, CNN Headline News host Glenn Beck aired a clip of the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth in which former Vice President Al Gore states that global warming could cause many highly populated coastal areas to be submerged by seawater -- including the entire city of Shanghai. Beck responded: "This is what would happen to Shanghai. Does anybody really care? I mean, come on. Shanghai is under water. Oh, no! Who's gonna make those little umbrellas for those tropical drinks?"

Beck's comments came after he played a portion of an interview that CNN host Larry King had conducted with Gore on Larry King Live. During the interview, King aired several segments of An Inconvenient Truth.

As Media Matters for America noted, Beck has also said that the conclusions reached in An Inconvenient Truth are "like Hitler. Hitler said a little bit of the truth, and then he mixed in 'and it's the Jews' fault.' "

From the June 14 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Glenn Beck Program:

GORE [audio clip]: The Arctic is experiencing faster melting. If this were to go, the sea level worldwide would go up 20 feet. This is what would happen in Florida. Around Shanghai, home to 40 million people. The area around Calcutta [India], 60 million.

BECK: Stop. Just a second, stop. This is what would happen to Shanghai. Does anybody really care? I mean, come on. Shanghai is under water. Oh, no! Who's gonna make those little umbrellas for those tropical drinks?
