• Rep. Sanders circulates Murdoch letter for congressional signatures
Following the debut of Outfoxed, Media Matters for America intensified its monitoring of the FOX News Channel, documenting and correcting conservative misinformation in real time and holding FOX to its own "fair and balanced" standard. The MMFA team posted 15 researched items in just the last week exposing false and misleading claims on FOX, including Sean Hannity's distortions of John Edwards's Senate voting record; Brit Hume's selective use of opinion polls to make it look like the Kerry-Edwards ticket has less momentum than it does; Bill O'Reilly's misleading claims (twice) about Americans' support for banning gay marriage in the Constitution, and John Gibson's false claim that "80-some percent of reporters are self-described liberals." MMFA also analyzed 33 FOX internal memos written by top FOX executives, including guidance from John Moody, FOX News Senior Vice President:
Moody on George W. Bush:
"His political courage and tactical cunning ar[e] [wo]rth noting in our reporting through the day"
Moody on Sen. John Kerry:
"starting to feel the heat for his flip-flop voting record"
