Media Matters is a progressive media watch dog and messaging center dedicated to challenging conservative misinformation in the media.
Our Hill Outreach Associate will help us increase our impact by:
Collaborating with our communications, online, and research departments to ensure our work is relevant for our hill allies timely and attuned with our allies, as well as the current political arena and media cycle.
Coming up with strategies to increase the impact of our work -- hour to hour, day to day and through longer-term planning.
Increasing the knowledge of the full range of our capacities and expanding our relationships among influential allies.
Sharing our work effectively - ensuring that tailored products get into the right hands, in the right ways, at the right times.
Demonstrating a sophisticated and substantive grasp of our work in meetings with allies and partners.
The Hill Outreach Associate will report the Director of Outreach and work closely with the online, research, and communications teams.
Strong political instincts and interpersonal skills: Proven ability to quickly assess complicated political dynamics, exercise strong judgment and generate buy-in among staff and allies to move work forward.
Innate understanding of the media and outstanding communications skills: In-depth knowledge of the media, how information travels through it, and what impacts the news cycle paired with a proven ability to develop and execute strategies that help shape it.
Results and service orientation: Relentless focus on outcomes combined with an ability to build trust and engage and support key stakeholders in the process.
Strong relationships and understanding of the Hill: In-depth knowledge of members, their staffs and how to effectively communicate in that sphere.
We are most interested in these four qualities, but anticipate candidates will have at least three years of relevant experience, including in management. In addition, the ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to excellence and fit with our collaborative, no-drama culture.
Salary commensurate with experience.
