Our full-time Strategic Development Writer will help us build financial support for our work by:
Writing and editing grant proposals and reports that share the stories of our successes and our no-fear approach to new challenges.
Working closely with a dedicated team that includes our Senior Strategic Development Writer, development team, executive staff, and issue team leaders to refine our goals and draw out our stories that illustrate our work most compellingly.
Maintaining a sophisticated understanding of all grant-supported projects and programs--including work by our gun violence prevention, climate change, immigration, and LGBT rights teams.
Staying current on the latest issues and how our work plays a unique and critical role in shaping the broader political and media landscape.
Performing non-luxurious but important tasks such as capturing donations in an online database (experience with Salesforce software is helpful), tracking and logging grant letters, drafting donor correspondence and managing mailing projects, and fulfilling donors' administrative requests.
Excellent writing skills: Strong technical and rhetorical writing skills and demonstrated ability to write under tight deadlines. Must have an eye for detail. Diverse range is critical - must be able to write about the big picture and clearly discuss specific programmatic activities. Must have prior experience writing non-profit development materials, such as grant proposals and letters of inquiry.
Results-driven: Flexible and organized, with a history of getting things done effectively even in the face of obstacles.
Strong political instincts: In-depth knowledge of the media, how information travels through it, and policy issues shaping the news cycle.
Communications-savvy and Collaborative spirit: Proven ability to clearly communicate with a variety of personalities and generate buy-in among multiple staff to move work forward.
We are most interested in these four qualities, but anticipate candidates will have at least three years of relevant experience.
