Media Matters for America -- a progressive, Washington, D.C.-based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media -- seeks an Office Manager or Office Assistant to help support the organization's internal/operational needs and provides high degree of service to all staff. The position requires proven abilities in oral and written communications, multitasking, problem solving, and supporting the needs and demands of a growing organization. A pleasant, positive demeanor, self-starter work style, and good sense of humor are essential attributes in this position.
Administrative: The Office Manager/Assistant serves as the initial contact for visitors and callers to Media Matters, which includes greeting and alerting appropriate staff. Maintains and updates staff contact information. Formats and sends correspondence. Performs other duties and assists with special projects on an as needed basis.
Logistics: The Office Manager/Assistant oversees inventory of office and kitchen supplies to ensure that staff has everything they need - and that everything is neat and organized. In addition, the Office Manager/Assistant serves as contact for office and supply vendors. Performs essential office functions such as collecting mail and disbursing to appropriate staff. The Office Manager/Assistant also acts as building liaison for Media Matters.
Financial: The Office Manager/Assistant works with Finance Department on administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and end of year time sensitive projects.
Knowledge of office administration
Proficient with email, Excel and Word
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Effective communications skills, both verbally and in writing
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information
General knowledge of office equipment
Ability to be flexible
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma plus a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an office environment OR
Bachelor's degree preferred plus a minimum of 2 years in an office environment
