Media Matters for America -- a progressive nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media -- seeks an Online Engagement Associate to help carry out this mission as a member of the Online Communications and Programs Department. This is an entry-level position and is based in our Washington, D.C., office. Applicants must be prepared to relocate if not living within commuting distance of downtown D.C.
Community Management: The Online Engagement Associate assists the Social Media Manager in engaging Media Matters' social media communities (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr) in accordance with and to advance Media Matters' overall social media strategy. The Online Engagement Associate will also participate in further developing Media Matters' social media strategy by compiling reports on social media performance, analyzing the data for takeaways/trends, and contributing feedback and ideas. Additionally, the Online Engagement Associate administers Media Matters' comment system (Disqus) and moderates comments to ensure our online community has a safe, healthy, and constructive space to interact with each other.
Content Creation/Curation: The Online Engagement Associate creates effective graphics and other content for distribution on Media Matters' social media spaces. Much of this content should draw from or align with material published on Media Matters' website. The Online Engagement Associate also assists in maintaining the mediamatters.org home page by selecting Media Matters content to highlight and updating the page in a timely manner that is compelling and informative.
Innovation and Feedback: The Online Engagement Associate is expected to stay on top of online media conversations, identifying opportunities to add value to those conversations with existing Media Matters work or with ideas for content that Media Matters could create. Additionally, the Online Engagement Associate is responsible for remaining abreast of developing social media trends and proposing creative ways for incorporating them into Media Matters' work, in order to maintain Media Matters' role as a thought leader in the online progressive community.
Understanding of U.S. media and how conservative misinformation affects our public debate.

Can execute duties in a timely manner and quickly adapt to new challenges in a fast-paced media environment.
Experience with social media execution, either for personal or professional purposes.
Familiarity with social media analytics programs.
Utilization of social media management platforms, e.g. Hootsuite or Tweetdeck.
Experience with Photoshop and/or other graphic development programs.
