Radio host Tim Wildmon: Liberals "don't have the kind of family responsibilities most people have, and certainly not church responsibilities"

May 20, 2005 6:03 pm ET

American Family Radio host Tim Wildmon said that liberals have more time for political activism because they "don't have the kind of family responsibilities" and "church responsibilities" that "most people have." Wildmon, president of the American Family Association (AFA), made the statement during an interview with former Sen. Zell Miller (D-GA).

From the May 11 edition of American Family Radio's Today's Issues:

WILDMON: The people who are the God-fearing people in this country, they elect people and expect them to do the right thing. They trust them to -- they're not always going to agree eye to eye, but basically go to Washington or go to your state capitals and do the right thing. Whereas our opponents, quite frankly, a lot of them, the ideological opponents, the liberals, they don't have the kind of family responsibilities that most people have, and certainly not church responsibilities. So they've got more time, even though their numbers may be less in the battle, then we do oftentimes.

American Family Radio is a network of nearly 200 radio stations across the country whose mission is "to inform Christians about what is happening in America." It is operated by the AFA, which claims that it "represents and stands for traditional family values." The AFA was founded by Tim Wildmon's father, Donald E. Wildmon.
