Severin: Democrats "do to the country" what porn star "does for a living"

On MSNBC's The Situation with Tucker Carlson, radio host and regular panelist Jay Severin stated that pornographic film star Mary Carey "does for a living what Democrats do to this country." The comment came during a segment on Carey's controversial attendance at the President's Dinner, an annual fund-raiser hosted by the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

From the June 14 edition of MSNBC's The Situation with Tucker Carlson:

SEVERIN: I think this is entirely appropriate [for her to attend the dinner], by the way, because Ms. Carey, after all, merely does for a living what the Democrats do to the country.

Severin's attack on Democrats sounded suspiciously like a line from the Woody Allen movie Annie Hall:

ALVY (character played by Allen): I ... interestingly had, uh, dated ... a woman in the Eisenhower administration ... briefly ... and, uh, it was ironic to me 'cause, uh . . . 'cause I was trying to, u-u-uh, do to her what Eisenhower has been doing to the country for the last eight years.
