Limbaugh claimed that "liberals seek the defeat of the military"
Nationally syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh accused liberals of seeking "the defeat of the military" on his June 27 radio show. Limbaugh went on to falsely claim that "liberals get excited when the military doesn't work because they have a general pacifist view of everything" and that liberals "think the use of the American military is always unjust, uncalled for, unwise, and unfair."
Limbaugh's comments come on the heels of the recent remark by White House senior adviser Karl Rove that "liberals saw the savagery of the 9-11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." In fact, the vast majority of American liberals favored military action in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, as Media Matters for America has noted.
From the June 27 broadcast of The Rush Limbaugh Show:
LIMBAUGH: I actively think that liberals seek the defeat of the military. I think they're happy. I think liberals get excited when the military doesn't work because they have a general pacifist view of everything. They think the use of the American military is always unjust, uncalled for, unwise, and unfair, being that we're the only superpower. And any time we take it on the chin, I think they're happy because it allows them to say, "See, this doesn't work."
