In her July 21 nationally syndicated column, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter wrote that Supreme Court nominees can win the support of abortion-rights groups NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood only by performing a televised abortion -- "preferably a partial birth one" -- at their confirmation hearings.

From Coulter's column:

The only way a Supreme Court nominee could win the approval of NARAL and Planned Parenthood would be to actually perform an abortion during his confirmation hearing, live, on camera, and preferably a partial birth one.

Coulter previously claimed she has "never heard of anyone who thinks abortion should not be 'available' to save the life of the mother," despite polling that shows a significant number of Americans favor making abortion illegal under all circumstances, even if the pregnant woman's life is threatened. She also asserted that not speaking out against abortion is akin to "taking a step closer to the devil."
