On his nationally syndicated radio show, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly said that House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) "doesn't have any power anymore." Attacking Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, O'Reilly said that Dean has "no GOP equivalent." He then continued, "I guess Tom DeLay might be the closest, but he doesn't have any power anymore."

From the September 20 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: Now, I don't have anything personally against Bill Clinton. I thought he did a pretty decent job managing the economy. I thought he was a disaster in foreign policy, and I think that a lot of his soft terrorism programs led to 9-11. I do believe that in my heart. But in managing the economy, he did a pretty damned good job. See, I'm not a Clinton-hater at all.

But the mail that I get -- anti-Clinton -- is just as vicious as the anti-Bush stuff that I hear. It just -- look, most of these people who have this kind of emotion invested in their political points of view have some kind of emotional damage. There's a reason why they hate Bush with a passion. I mean, Bush is a nice guy. Clinton's a nice guy. I mean, you talk to them one-on-one, they're not bad guys. So why do you hate them personally? Why? That's on you.

So people are bringing their neurosis to the table. Whether they're insecure about their intellect, you know, I don't really have time to delve into it. Once I see a Howard Dean -- and there is no GOP equivalent of Howard Dean. I guess Tom DeLay might be the closest, but he doesn't have any power anymore. Once I see Howard Dean out there viciously attacking people personally, I just say this guy doesn't deserve to be where he is, and he's shaming the Democratic Party.

I would like to hear O'Reilly give some examples of Dean "viciously attacking people personally". I have a feely that any criticism of Bush or Republicans in general amounts to "viciously attacking people personally" in O'Reilly's mind.

So by Bill's rationale, if Hitler was a charming enough fella in person, it would be totally irrational to hate him for his evil policies. Farrakhan is a slick talker and seems pretty nice until he starts jew-baiting and spewing racial hatred. Granted, Bush is no where as "evil" as Hitler in my view, but his administrations' actions may have created almost as much harm.

You know if these right wing pundits were truly on the margins like Farrakhan we could ignore them as all the conservative posters say we should. So when presidents and ex-presidents stop granting these people interviews. (Bush II on the Factor and Bush I on Limbagh's show)I will ignore them jusr as I do Farrakhan.

How true. There's very little that is shocking anymore. Mega-corporations doing the bidding of their man in power. Propaganda under the premise of news/entertainment.

Right now Clear Channel has a huge ad in Time - Rush's photo with the words, "America's anchorman". No mention of Clear Channel.

That these guy's get Bush I, II, and Cheney under the auspices of being reporters/journalists, news/entertainment is as factual and reality based as Intelligent Design.

Does anyone else find Bill O'Reilly saying that people who preform personal attacks on others are insecure about their own intellect, a bit revealing?

The majority leader of the House of Reps has no power? What planet is O'Reilly living in? Delay certainly is one of the five most powerful politicians in Washington. Didn't he get CAFTA, the energy and highway bills, and the bankruptcy bills passed?

You will have to agree Mr. Dean has gotten a lot more "face" time than Delay over the past couple of months. So in that regard, knowing the attention span of a large part of the populus, Delay doesn't have any power any more (at least until he can get some "face" time). The media has been so intent on Sheehan, Katrina and Roberts that even Iraq itself has slipped into the background. But wait awhile and something will happen to thrust Delay back into the foreground and then lets hear BO's tune.

If you want to see an example of Delay's power, look at the expanding NASA budget. Do you really think that another 100B for a moon shot followed by a Mars shot is the right thing to be spending money on now? Guess whose district NASA headquarters is in after the Texas redistricting.
