Olbermann named CNN hire Glenn Beck "Worst Person" for calling Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute"
Keith Olbermann named right-wing radio host Glenn Beck, recently hired by CNN, the "Worst Person in the World" for calling anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute."
On the January 19 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named right-wing radio personality and recent CNN hire Glenn Beck the "Worst Person in the World" for calling anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute," as noted by Media Matters for America. After bestowing the award, Olbermann advised CNN on its decision to give Beck his own show: "From personal experience, maybe you should bail on this right now. Two simple words: Michael Savage."
Beck mentioned Sheehan on his January 10 radio show, during what he called a "search for the biggest prostitute," which, he said, sought to answer the question, "Who'll do anything for power or money?" The choices offered by Beck initially pitted former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss against Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), and suspended Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens. Beck later added Sheehan to the discussion, calling her "a pretty big prostitute." His producer Steve "Stu" Burguiere observed that "tragedy pimp" would be "the most accurate description."
On January 17, Olbermann named CNN News Group executive vice president Ken Jautz the "Worst Person" for hiring Beck, noting Beck's statement regarding Hurricane Katrina survivors: "The only ones we're seeing on television are the scumbags. It is exactly like the 9-11 victims' families. There are about 10 of them that are spoiling it for everybody."
From the January 19 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: But the winner: Glenn Beck, the radio talk show host to whom CNN just gave a show on Headline News, calling him "conversational, not confrontational." On the radio, he had a mock contest to see which public figure was the, quote, "biggest prostitute." Among the selections: Cindy Sheehan. Beck said, "That's a pretty big prostitute there." Then his producer corrected him and said Sheehan should be called a, quote, "tragedy pimp." Bring me back on camera for a second so I can talk to my friends at CNN directly -- the ones who gave me my first break in TV. Guys, about the Glenn Beck show? From personal experience, maybe you should bail on this right now. Two simple words: Michael Savage. Glenn Beck, today's worst person in the world.

If mainstream media keeps ramming these right-wing hacks down the public's throats they are only going to lose any credibility at all as news reporting organizations. A conservative with some manners and coherent thought processes on the airwaves would be a big help if MSM has any intention of having credibility. Hey CNN, instead of a clown like Bennett and a Clear Channel hack like Beck why can't you hire Ben Stein.
How about if just one channel gave one unapologetic, strong liberal a single one-hour show unopposed? Once that's taken care of, then we can look into finding responsible conservatives.
Quoting Carl Sagan: "Birds - whose intelligence we tend to malign - know not to foul the nest. Shrimps with brains the size of lint know it. Algae know it. One-celled microorganisms know it. "
Where does this place CNN management in the hierarchy of intelligence?
"Worst Person In The World" is a bit clunky and over-wrought. Also, it doesn't make sense given that the title is bestowed daily.
Maybe Olbermann can rename it Jackass of the Day?
Why can't you guys just admit you don't want to see any conservative/libertarian on any news channel at any time? It would be much simpler if you all just told the truth.
Not reactionary big mouths like Beck or Ann Coulter, or Bill O'Reilly.
It would be "much simpler" if there were more "conservatives" who not only told the truth but who adhered to traditional conservative positions, not the shrieking, hate mongering bile they currently spew.
Are people like Beck really the only option? Can't we get people who actually tell the truth and have some concept of civillity? If this type is all you have, your party is truly wretched.
"Why can't you guys just admit you don't want to see any conservative/libertarian on any news channel at any time? "
Not true -- when I sent my complaint to CNN I suggested that the issue isn't having conservatives on the air, its having sophomoric blowhards like Beck on the air. I suggested they look for real thinking conservatives like David Brooks or Tony Blankley who would lend actual credibility their news analysis. The selection of Beck shows they are going after only one thing -- the lowest common denominator.
Why can't they be conservatives and not call the mother of a war vet. a prostitute?
What ever happened to civility?
I would love to see a real libertarian on a news channel.
if you didn't employ strawmen. Nothing you said has a grain of truth in it.
My comment was to " uebermeister," who perhaps needs remedial spelling as well as remedial logic training.
The problem is not whether or not "conservatives" have a valid viewpoint or some cogent arguments to put forth. The problem is that the current administration does not qualify as conservative in any way shape or form. Glenn Beck is not a conservative - he's a huge hate prostitute. Or would "hate pimp" be a better description, using his ill conceived terms. I'd like to know where Tommy is on this one? You going to defend this jackass Tommy? As an American who believes in the Constitution of this country, I support Mr. Beck's right to say whatever he wants to, and I defend CNNs right to hire him. By the same token, it is within our rights to let CNN know how we feel about it. There are some conservatives out there with credibility and decent ideas, but the current crop are NOT conservatives. They are trampling all over the constitution, limiting freedoms, blurring the line between church and state, spending our government into a hole, and sticking their noses into personal and family matters. NONE of these things are true conservative values. The bottom line is that most of the Neocons (the name I will use for "conservatives" that are not really conservatives) are OK with any freedoms and positions you have, as long as it agrees with theirs - or, freedom for them, screw everyone else. This guy is not a conservative, he's a hate monger using a shtick to gain an audience.
THERE'S no end to a wolf's howling at the moon, and no end to a preacher's preaching to the choir...
...and no doubt that neither Glenn Beck, nor his employer, Time-Warner-owned Cable News Network (CNN), cares anything at all as to what's said about him, or them, here...
...here at this site, MMFA; or here in it's comment's forum...
...because just as doubtless as are those things, is just as doubtless this ...
...that the (highly) paid advocate called Glenn Beck (like the [highly] paid advocate called Republican Randall 'Duke' Cunningham) has his sponsors; and whether those sponsors be Defense Contractors or magazine publishers, their end is the same...
Revenues and Profits
...and until People stop howling at Glenn Beck (and stop preaching to their choir), and start identifying the employers of such hatred and greed (such hatred and greed as to call a mother's anti-war activism 'prostituting her son's death'), only then will we (the People) make headway against this hatred and greed...
...only then will we do more than preach to the choir and howl at the moon.
Who owns CNN?
What more does Time-Warner own?
Who sponsors the hatred of Glenn Beck?
What more can We the People do to stop this hatred and greed, short of voting this fall; short of voting (with dollars) now?
Beck has repeatedly and consistently been at odds with Bush on a number of issues. He has said on a number of occasions that, if not for the war, Bush would have a much lower approval rating among conservatives than he has now. He has said that, if there were not more important events unfolding, he would basically be blasting Bush on his "reckless spending" and other things.
I mostly am confused by liberals complaining that Bush isn't conservative enough. If John Kerry were in the White House and wasn't being liberal enough, I wouldn't be complaining for the sake of his base, even if it was hypocritical. So that element is a little confusing to me.
Its not that he isnt conservative enough, he is not A conservative at ALL. His policies show him to be more of a radical statist. Expanding executive power and spending like a Rockefeller except with the public money and lying virtually every time he opens his mouth is NOT conservative. He sullies the good name of conservative. I have had many conservative friends, I disagree because I am a very left liberal but they are principled, caring and often intelligent people who would have screamed about these policies if someone NOT idenitified as a conservative did them.
george bush is not a conservative. the title itself, 'conservative', throws it in his face ('conserve'). a conservative policy is to LIMIT spending and government intrusion. george bush has extended both of these. even on issues such as oil and the envirnment, george bush is not a consverative. let's make it clear, george bush is not a conservative.
george bush is a fanatical christian, and i'm not even sure he's actually a christian. he is pro-big-business.
what title could we give him?
Here's one:

Look it up.
