During the February 22 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly claimed that if "Al Qaeda wanted to get in here [the United States], it's easy," because "[t]hey've got all kinds of Muslim crazies up in Canada running around." O'Reilly was commenting on the controversial acquisition by Dubai Ports World of the British firm Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., which manages six U.S. ports. Dubai Ports World is owned by the government of Dubai, a member state of the United Arab Emirates. O'Reilly contrasted security concerns about the deal with the lack of comparable concern over Canada. According to O'Reilly, although "we do a lot of business with Canada," they have "the easiest infiltration in the world"; he continued, "All you do is have to show up in Montreal."

O'REILLY: You know, we do a lot of business with Canada -- this is what gets me -- Canada has got the easiest infiltration in the world. All you do is have to show up in Montreal. You don't even have to have a passport, and they'll let you in the country as a refugee. You just show up and go, "Hey, I'm here." "Oh, OK, come on in." And we're doing business with Canada all the time, and we don't have any checks up there. We don't have any Border Patrol up in Canada. I mean we have a few, but, you know, anybody can come down. I don't hear any big screaming about doing business with Canada. You know, if Al Qaeda wanted to get here, it's easy. They've got all kinds of Muslim crazies up in Canada running around. You see? So people get emotional.

We already owe the UAE for taking Michael Jackson off our hands. Would you guys consider taking Bill O'Reilly too? With all of the great attractions your country has to offer the worlds wealthiest citizens, couldn't you sell tickets to his Geekfest and earn even more money? Hell, I'll even buy the chickens.
There is a point under Bill's bloviation here, although probably not the one he intended to make. The fact is, even if we had ports that were 100% secure (which is impossible), there would still be plenty of ways for turss to infiltrate the country and spread turr. Anybody who's seen the classic Chuck Norris film Invasion U.S.A. [link to www.imdb.com] in which a band of vaguely Eastern European superturss take over several deserted streets in a suburban Florida neighborhood, could tell you that.
I thought I blocked out every reference to Chuck Norris movies in my brain. The sad thing is that Republicans and children believe those movies are accurate and/or real.
First, we should cut and run from Iraq and now he actually makes sense on a question of national security? How un-Bill.
But don't panic yet. I still doubt he can see the terror (pun intended) in his ways. The problems are our borders will always be as porous as a seive and the "war on terra" is an endless struggle (even Rumsfeld is now referring to it as "The Long War") that only serves to legitimize terrorism. Terrorism is on the rise and will continue to rise until we learn to work with others and treat terrorism as a crime.

Poor Mr. O'Reilly really never seems to get the main picture. Since we have been "disgraced" with his presence on our TV screens up here, we watch him after supper to get our digestive juices flowing and our daily dose of yelling at the TV screen over how a single person can have such a following and yet be so unbelievable and misguided. Perhaps he needs to step back and notice how often his President has used the fear factor against middle eastern countries to advance his political agenda and win re-election by even stating that you could be attacked again if Kerry had been elected. Fear of the Muslim terrorists has been the only way Bush has advanced and gained support for illegal wiretapping and data mining of American citizens, passing Patriot Act provisions that are pushed through as being the only way to protect Americans from "terrorists" and even down to being the most secretive government in your history that I remember, all because of that simple mantra of "Trust me. I am the only one who can protect you from being attacked again". Now O'Reilly is upset when the Americans complain about their safety as they have been trained to do since 9/11. Mr. O'Reilly seems to have no problems with a UAE government owned business taking over the ports, so I would suggest using that rationalle, that he would be happy then giving up your southern border patrol and border security to the Mexican Government. Why waste all that time and money for American jobs when Republicans could outsource even more American jobs to Vincente Fox all in the name of the global economy and not being perceived as being an isolationist country. I am sure Fox would make sure that only the best of the Mexican population were allowed into your country and terrorists were never allowed in. Will Mr. O'Reilly hand out his southern border protection to another government owned business as quickly as he feels you should hand out your ports to a middle eastern one?
I think that the UAE may be the best answer to solidifying the Mexican Border security; a package deal.
.....want to get there Bill, but they did not have to come through Canada. Everyone of the 9-11 hijackers entered the United States directly and legally. You're right about one thing though, it was easy for them to do.
In fact, I took some time off from my stalking of Tucker Carlson to think about this and I can remember only one incident involving a would be terrorist entering the U.S. through Canada and he was caught immediately. I also notice that people who actually work on a day to day basis on border security, instead of say just bloviating on cable news shows, invariably say that there is very high degree of cooperation between Canada and the U.S. on this issue.
