Only on Fox Nudes: Fox aired stock strip club footage for story about father leaving young son in car

March 23, 2006 3:27 pm ET

As the hosts of Fox & Friends First discussed the recent arrest of a Kansas man who left his preschool-age son in his unlocked vehicle while he patronized a Tulsa strip club, the network aired more than a minute of uninterrupted stock footage of strip club performances.

Fox News continued its practice of airing photographs and videos of scantily-clad women or blurred images of nude women -- frequently with the skimpiest of news relevance -- during the March 22 broadcast of Fox & Friends First. As hosts Steve Doocy, Alisyn Camerota, and Andrew Napolitano discussed the March 18 arrest of a Kansas man who left his preschool-age son in his unlocked vehicle for approximately 30 minutes while he patronized a Tulsa, Oklahoma, strip club, the network aired more than a minute of uninterrupted stock footage of strip club performances.

Napolitano noted that the Kansas man had been charged with "encouraging a minor child to be in need of supervision" after the child wandered into the strip club looking for his father, then added, "I would say, contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing him to come in that strip club." The footage that accompanied that part of the discussion depicted a stripper from the waist down, in mid-performance, wearing underwear that left little to the imagination. The March 22 Fox & Friends report aired at approximately 6:40 a.m. ET.

As Media Matters for America has previously noted, Fox News has, of late, been a treasure-trove for footage of pole-dancing actresses and adult film stars, Playboy and Victoria's Secret models, and other adult-oriented entertainers.

From the March 22 broadcast of Fox News' Fox & Friends First:

DOOCY: All right, let's talk a little bit about a fellow by the name of Christopher Killion. He's 31 years old. He's from my home state of Kansas. He's in a heap of trouble because on Saturday, he was in Tulsa, and he decided, "I know I'm supposed to be babysitting the little baby who is what" --

CAMEROTA: Three years old.

DOOCY: -- "three or four years old, but I'm going to leave the baby someplace while I go in to see some naked people."

NAPOLITANO: Where did he leave the kid?

CAMEROTA: He left the kid in an unlocked car outside of the strip joint that was 20 feet away from a four-lane street; it was raining out; it was 45 degrees at the time. So, after about 20 minutes, who walks into the strip club, but a 3-year-old? He toddles in.

NAPOLITANO: So, the 3-year-old goes into the strip club and says, "Where's Daddy?"

DOOCY: Yeah.

CAMEROTA: Yeah.

NAPOLITANO: And of course the police are called, and the father is now charged with "encouraging a minor to be in need of supervision." I would say, contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing him to come in that strip club.

DOOCY: You know what? The kid stayed in the unlocked car for about a half-an-hour because of one reason. The father said --

NAPOLITANO: Oh, yeah.

DOOCY: -- that he told him that monsters would eat him if he left the car. So, the kid stayed in the car for a half-an-hour and then he apparently decided --

CAMEROTA: Okay --

NAPOLITANO: And then went into the strip club looking for monsters.

CAMEROTA: Right, exactly, where he found some. Now, Judge, here's my question and I may need -- really need to know this. Is it illegal to leave your children --

NAPOLITANO: As opposed to the other questions you ask.

CAMEROTA: Yeah, exactly. This one is actually for personal use. Is it illegal to leave your children in, let's pretend it was a locked car?

NAPOLITANO: It would depend on the -- on the age of a child. A 3-year-old, absolutely it would be illegal. It would be -- it would impair the child's health. A 14-year-old, you can say, "Hey, sit in the back seat of the car while I do some grocery shopping."

DOOCY: Yeah, just look at those stories where, on a hot day, when parents have left children.

CAMEROTA: Alright, that's horribly hazardous.

NAPOLITANO: Severe health problems, even death.

DOOCY: Exactly. And the father probably thought, "Yeah, it's not hot, it's" --

NAPOLITANO: Right.

CAMEROTA: Cold.

DOOCY: -- "chilly, I'm going inside to warm up with some strippers."

CAMEROTA: Yeah.

DOOCY: Anyway, he's in big trouble.

Normally, I view these FOX stripper segments with a grain of salt. It seems to be just a small subliminal message boosting ratings from their male viewers. But this one is a bit much. If I would be too uncomfortable to watch a news segment in the same room as my parents or children, something is obviously wrong. God forbid FOX ever airs a story about a kid who wanders onto the set of a porn film being made.

Cheese Cake, baby?? For the News, Vegas Style.

Fox will inform and titillate at the same time, slip in subliminal messaging and propaganda and we're a few steps away from the first American Fascism.

      Happy Thoughts;

How can they put that stuff on basic cable where any child could run across it? Shouldn't this type of smut only be put on television by the liberals in Hollywood that are trying to destroy our country? Why does Fox News hate our children?

FOX is simply trying to attract and attach more left-wing viewers. Can we vote her in already?

they should put Sly in front of their name. I never watch Fox so I miss all the stuff that's so good it's bad --- or is that so bad it's good? Who cares?

I always suspected that left wingers were at heart prudish and sexually uptight. These comments confirm it. How Media Matters would have enjoyed the Inquisition and colonial Salem!

Besides their up-is-down, down-is-up, Rove-repeating, Duhhbya-loving, We-Distort-You're-Deceived approach to news, this might be the real reason Shotgun Dick wants the TVs in his hotel rooms tuned only to FOX NEWS.

for many news stories. It does go against this network's supposed "family values" "image". I recall a couple of years ago during a mad cow episode of seeing the same cow stumble around a pen for a couple of weeks, without any disclosure of the clip being stock footage. And then again in the past couple of weeks, I saw the same footage again and again (same cow, no disclosure). If the complaint is against fox for not revealing this as stock footage, poor complaint. If it is for poor taste, kudos to MMFA.

Image (family values, fair and balanced) is important, but real human nature calls for the sleaze factor, to satisfy the true values in America.

Was it the same stock footage NBC used this morning in their story about business meetings in strip clubs? Rather than leaving a baby in a car, NBC discussed how those meeting locations leave women behind. All the while, viewers were shown video of the silky smooth behinds of women dancers. Oooo, baby....

Dick Cheney has to have EVERY TV tuned to Fox news whenever he stays in a hotel room . . . at first I thought it was because of Faux News' informative coverage and intellectual commentary . . . now I know: he just doesn't want to miss the next skin shot . . .
