Olbermann awarded Coulter, Limbaugh, and O'Reilly "Worst Person" honors
Keith Olbermann awarded Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter second and third place, respectively, in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment, honoring O'Reilly with first place for his shifting positions on the existence of the so-called "attack on Easter," which Media Matters also documented in an April 17 item.
On the April 14 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann awarded nationally syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh and right-wing pundit Ann Coulter second and third place, respectively, in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment, while Fox News host Bill O'Reilly was honored with the top prize.
Coulter was honored for her comments from the April 13 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, in which she made a suggestion -- echoing a Saturday Night Live skit -- for how to curb illegal immigration: "I'd build a wall. In fact, I'd hire illegal immigrants to build the wall and throw out the illegals who are here." Limbaugh earned the second-place spot for his April 12 defense of conservative blogger Ben Domenech, who resigned from his short-lived stint as the author of washingtonpost.com's Red America weblog after widespread allegations of plagiarism surfaced. Despite the fact that Domenech admitted he had used other writers' work "inappropriately and without attribution," Limbaugh accused The Washington Post of "concoct[ing] some phony excuse that the guy that they had hired was a plagiarist."
Olbermann awarded O'Reilly the top prize for his shifting positions on the existence of the so-called "attack on Easter," which Media Matters also documented in an April 17 item.
From the April 14 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: That's next. But first, I've got Countdown's list of today's three nominees for Worst Person in the World. And it's a hat trick tonight. The bronze: Ann Coulter, explaining that the immigration situation could be resolved thusly. Quoting, "I'd build a wall. In fact, I'd hire illegal immigrants to build the wall and throw out the illegals who are here." You did read [the Edgar Allan Poe short story] The Cask of Amontillado, didn't you, Ann?
The runner up: comedian Rush Limbaugh. After Ben Domenech resigned from The Washington Post's new conservative Red America blog, admitting plagiarism as he did so, Limbaugh explained the Post had simply buckled to the left and, quote, "concocted some phony excuse that the guy that they had hired was a plagiarist." I wish Rush would plagiarize a good idea from somebody.
But the winner: Bill O. After a newspaper editorial chastising talk show hosts for railing against an attack on Easter, last night O'Reilly dismissed the piece as a "nutty diatribe" and reassured everybody, quote, "There is no attack on Easter." Tuesday, he had talked about how Christmas and Easter have been attacked by secular interests. His website says one of tonight's segments is titled, quote, "Easter Under Siege." Have I got this right? Tuesday, there is; Thursday, there isn't; Friday, there is. Maybe, there are multiple Bill O'Reillys. Run for your lives! Bill O'Reilly, today's worst person in the world.
Actually, judging from what we found on the Internets, those stories about attacks on Easter, they're entirely backwards.

knowing that BOR is here to save the day.
I wish more would start affixing far-right TV/Radio talk show host to Bill O'Reilly's name everytime he's mentioned anywhere just as they do to Coulter's. This hiding under some "traditionalist" label by him to prove to his lemmings that he's objective really needs to be unmasked.
I really think it's been unmasked, the only person that takes Bill O'Rielly seriously anymore is Bill O'rielly.
Yes, Lynn, those of us who are frequent targets of the O'Reilly/Limbaugh ilk have long known this, but I just wish more such as Olberman would not let O'Reilly get off so easily by just referring to as a TV/Radio host. It's time to affix far-right to his name just to put the clown on the defensive. How could/would he defend himself from his perch of objectivity ?
Do you go by "Bubbaette" anywhere else, by the way ?
Oops, sorry. I meant to place quotation marks around "objectivity" in my prior post.
Unmasking BOR would be a monumental task. Do you know how many masons and brick layers are required to apply his makeup each day? Plan on having jackhammers!!!

I surf a lot of blogs and read the posts but I generally only post here, although I did in the past. I don't like the uncivil atmosphere of some of the posters at the other sites too yahooish for me.
A hall of shame trifecta of conservative misinformers and liars.
It couldn't happen to a more deserving trio.
can't MMFA just start some website in conjunction with Keith or something to list the awards every day and document every single time KOB mentions BOR?? Do they really need to post every time Keith awards "Worse/Worst Person of the Day" awards to BOR/Ann Coulter/Rush, etc..?
hmm...monitering conservative misinformation or trying to generate publicity for a left-wing tv host with terrible ratings..
His ratings are climbing for what it's worth, and yeah, this huge site has to be a "boon" for someone's TV ratings, right ?
Boon for someone's analysis? 1. It shouldn't be us versus them. 2. On the about us page of this site:
"Launched in May 2004, Media Matters for America put in place, for the first time, the means to systematically monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation — news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda — every day, in real time."
This endorsement of Olbermann does not jive with this "mission statement." From a completely academic point of view, I actually believe that this endorsement takes away from the validity of this site.
Note, I'm not saying I don't like Olbermann, I just hope that MediaMatters can rise above such political hackery.
What endorsement? I see no such thing.
I see the fact that Olbermann is mentioned on a somewhat popular left-leaning site as an endorsement. Note, Media Matters does not criticise Olbermann but instead lauds his worst person awards. Media matters often covers these instances separately from Olbermann, so why do they rehash this stuff in the Olbermann pieces? My answer: an endorsement.
Maybe I'm wrong and it isn't an endorsement, but before media matters began writing these pieces, I wasn't aware of Olbermann. Now I am (and I think I really like him. Finally, someone to combat the conservative propoganda.) But since I learned about Olbermann via media matters, and this piece of information does not seem to fit with the "mission statement" of media matters, I have pointed out that irony.
I think MMFA uses the Olbermann pieces as proof that they are on the right track, because the Olbermann info they highlight is something they have already covered. I wouldn't call it an endorsement at all.
thought you had left town.
Tommy was reasonable once in a great while.
Please post the URL of your site so we can all go there and tell you how to run it.
Thanks,
MMFA Community
Also, please post link to unbiased source of ratings information for Keith Olberman for the last 6 months.
Or are you just pulling that out of your keister?
Next you'll tell me that Air America Radio is on its last legs and they're begging for money.
*rolls eyes*
Even if Air America WERE failing - which it's not - Jones Radio Network has Ed Schultz who actually has, from what I understand, the largest audience of any of the progressive talkers. This is just the beginning - after 3 decades of the right wing hatemongers, change is finally coming to talk radio. On Air America, I happen to really like Thom Hartmann - the guy knows his s**t - it's just too bad he's only on once a week.
I think it's a stretch to think that AAR isn't struggling. But you can believe whatever you want. Let me know when they turn their first profit. There have been so many format changes in Minneapolis that you can't keep anything straight. All of the local talent has gone belly-up for a variety of reasons, not the least of which nobody was listening. So except for Franken who does a national show but broadcasts from here and a few stray 1-hour programs, everything is national.
Oh, and the hate-mongering isn't exactly absent on AAR either.
I listen to it even though I don't agree. My usual thought is "how long is this nonsense going to be on the air?" The answer has generally been--not long. I do like Ed Schultz though, he's a straight shooter and pretty fair minded. The rest can pound salt in my opinion.
"Let me know when they turn their first profit."
It takes awhile. The tide is turning though.
Thom Hartmann kicks ass by the way. He lets cons on and destroys them with unassailable and quietly delivered logic. He's exactly what we need more of on our side.
I like how with AAR which has shown very little (if any) progress and growth over several years you say "It takes awhile. The tide is turning though. " Despite obvious facts (ratings and other stories---borrowing $875, 000 from a charity) which show that it is not getting any better and not a failure.
Yet, when Bush or Cheney comes out and says the same thing about Iraq you lefties rail them day in and day out and say its time to give up; that it's a failure, and its time to shut down the operation.
"which show that it is not getting any better and is a failure. "
AAR doesn't kill anybody dumb ass.

Wow a .4 over the first quarter of 2006...impressive; maybe next quarter he can crack the top 20
Before you start whining about the 25-54 demo... [link to www.mediabistro.com]
17th...maybe next quarter he can beat MSNBC investigates (2 year old re-runs shown once a week)
Maybe people don't like the truth. O'Reilly and Limbaugh's ratings point to that fact. Liberals often send their time at the library becoming informed. Cons love their opinion spoon fed to them. Maybe there's built in gap there that can never completely be breached.
or maybe people just don't like Olbermann's wild left-wing rantings and Franken's terrible radio show and the whole AAR outfit (complete with smears, personal attacks, etc..)... maybe they just don't agree with them and don't want to listen to them because they aren't talented and their shows aren't good...ever think of that?
No. That's not it. But nice try.
After what Right-wingers displayed during the Clinton Administration, what gall and denial to not only ignore what Right-wing "talk" radio engages in EVERYDAY, but to dare even mention smears and personal attacks with a straight face.
These guys are jokes. Jokes!
--In New York City, temporary network flagship WLIB-AM showed losses. From an overall 1.4 audience share last month, it fell to a 1.2 this time around (Limbaugh affiliate WABC showed gains: from a 3.4 to a 3.7)
--In LA, KTLK-AM went from a tiny 0.8 to this month's 0.9 share.
--In Chicago, Air America's WCPT-AM hasn't budged, still turning in a miniscule 0.7 share. Since last summer, the station has been unable to show any growth.

I listen to talk radio now that there's someone on there who tells the truth. So, in my particular case, one of the local music FM stations lost my patronage, and the AAR affiliate gained it. I can't be an isolated case.
see that is what's funny.."I can't be an isolated case."
You are...whether you want to believe it or not...you are the isolated case...and that's why AAR has no ratings and isn't growing...
Nope. Hardly. I see lots of AAR bumper stickers. Why are you trying to sell this so much? If AAR were truly failing, then you wouldn't have to do anything. Your desperation tells us all we need to know.
other shows and people who also spend time disseminating others' ridiculous assertions and lying, prejudiced comments made in the media. Imagine if it were ONLY MMFA doing this.. not much would be heard.
Some way I agry with you, Did you listen Randy today?... I was born in USSR, and emigrated to USA 32 years ago, and I know communist propoganda... Randi and Mallow over there level. I could not imagen, that in this country of my dreams people like them, could HATE this country.... For me any AMERICAN president - is AMERICAN president, could be Nixon(thanks to him I am HERE), Carter(the worst President in history), Reagan (thanks to him my ex country FREE now) Clinton (in latin America they call him HIJO DE PUTA)and Bush(history in future will tell us)My be my english not correct, ( Russian, idish, spanish,english-to much for me, but I KNOW wat is right and what is wrong...)You, see, David Brock made money with republicans, now he is making money with democrats, can you TRUST him?..... I hate JEWS - LIBERALS and communists,(I am a JEW. but I hate CAPOS)
Propaganda, huh ? Do you ever watch or listen to Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, et all ? Care to tell me what these multi-millionaires engage in everyday to make their money, or do you only hear and see what you want to hear and see ?
Care to explain why Carter was the worst, or how Reagan made your country free ? I just saw A C-SPAN presentation about two weeks ago where Alexander Haig was on a panel with other ex Secretary of States and he just came out and told everyone that Reagan did not singlehandily bring the Soviet Union down as the Right would love for you to believe. He came right out and said that it was 40 years of both Republican AND Democratic administrations that brought the Soviet Union down. In fact, Gorbachov came out once and said that the Soviet Union was already imploding during the Ford Administration.
So you hate Jews and Liberals ? I hate your ignorance. How's that ?
I thought the only racists prejudiced dumb arses were in the U.S.- oh..wait.. he IS in the U.S.
I was born in USSR and I know two side of the history, and I am very sorry I cannot explain myself in writing but personaly I can take anybody on this side....For me personally Rush is saver of this country from antiamericans like Al Franken, Randy and Mallow: for them Bush is more ENIMY that ISLAMOFASHISTS ......My friends in Latvia thanks to Reagan for there independance and do RESPECT President BUSH.....
Proof that stupidity is the universal language.
palani you write: "So you hate jews and liberals". Read : I AM A JEW AND I HATE CAPOS.....If you know what is CAPOS meen?....
I was so taken aback by your one-sided ignorant slop that I completely missed the fact that not only are you incredibly ignorant, but you're also coming across as bigoted and facist as well.
All those I mentioned from the Right, lie, spin, and distort on a daily basis for nothing more than ratings (the almighty dollar) and you call Franken and Rhoades anti-American ? The Right-wingers I mentioned could care less about this, their country, as they are simply there to manufacture outrage and turn its citizens against one another. If they are your heroes, you are far more ignorant, and let me add, STUPID, than I thought. As president, Reagan once laid a wreath on the tomb of a Nazi. You agree with that ?
And if you and your friends trust Bush, then you are in the minority, here in the United States, and around the world. I guess you know, huh ?
I've espoused the belief that Americans of all stripe are united in the idea of the American dream and concept of freedom. Immigrants like neo-commie disprove the point. He seems to not have a grasp of what America is all about.
