Conservative columnist and radio host Giles slurred "lesbian[]" feminists, praised "lassies" who "[d]on't want their vagina turned into a sexual turnstile"

April 25, 2006 6:39 pm ET

Conservative radio host and columnist Doug Giles slurred feminists as "misogynists with vaginas" and praised "lassies" who "[d]on't want their vagina turned into a sexual turnstile."

In an April 22 column touting a new book by Carrie Lukas -- director of policy for the conservative Independent Women's Forum -- conservative radio host and columnist Doug Giles slurred feminists as "misogynists with vaginas" and praised "lassies" who "[d]on't want their vagina turned into a sexual turnstile."

Giles wrote that in Lukas's upcoming book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex and Feminism (Regnery Publishing, May 2006), Lukas "shreds the lies which the female chauvinist pigs (FCP) have sold our nation's fair ladies" and "shows the women who would be women the true identity of postmodern day feminists: misogynists with vaginas ... womyn who not only hate men, but women also."

Giles then asked:

BTW ... have you ever seen a feminist around a womanly woman and not one of her butch buddies who's sporting a Tim Allen haircut? (Question: If feminists and lesbians hate men like they do, why do they try to look like us?)

Additionally, in praising Lukas, Giles called her "a girl who got her bachelor's at Princeton, her Masters at Harvard and did it without drinking the lesbians' -- I mean the feminists' -- Kool Aid." He also predicted that Lukas's book "will get all the feministas' big panties in a major wad."

Giles added that Lukas's book "is going to liberate ladies to be ladies" and that "contrary to the propaganda belched forth via our universities and MSM [mainstream media], there are a whole lot of lassies" who:

  • "Look to their husband's [sic] to provide rather than looking to the feminists' sugar daddy, Uncle Sam."
  • "Don't want their vagina turned into a sexual turnstile. Who don't want to be the village bicycle. ... Who can be sexy without being a skank."
  • "Want to get married to a man versus a career."
  • "Want to have a baby before half of their life is history. Who don't want to be in diapers when their child is. *BTW girls, the longer you wait the more difficult it's going to be to get pregnant. If you're waiting strategically 'til your mid 30's -- 40's well, uh ... good luck."

Giles is the creator, host, and director of ClashRadio.com and "The Clash" radio shows. Guests on his weekly one-hour program have included Ann Coulter, Cal Thomas, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Michelle Malkin, and fox News host Brian Kilmeade. He is also the founder of Clash Christian Church in Aventura, Florida, and a columnist for the conservative website TownHall.com.

From Giles's April 22 column:

Carrie Lukas' new book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex and Feminism, just dropped, and I predict that it will get all the feministas' big panties in a major wad.

[...]

I'm sure right now all the anonymous Amazon.com book review attack weirdoes, who do not have a life and won't actually read the book but feel compelled to write their inane and uninformed critiques, are queuing up to lay into Carrie. They're sweating. And they need to sweat, because in this soon to be New York Times best seller, Mrs. Lukas shreds the lies which the female chauvinist pigs (FCP) have sold our nation's fair ladies -- I'm talkin' wood chipper style. She shows the women who would be women the true identity of postmodern day feminists: misogynists with vaginas ... womyn who not only hate men, but women also.

BTW ... have you ever seen a feminist around a womanly woman and not one of her butch buddies who's sporting a Tim Allen haircut? (Question: If feminists and lesbians hate men like they do, why do they try to look like us?)

[...]

Another cool thing about The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex and Feminism is that it was a young, accomplished woman, who also happens to be a happy wife and mother, who penned this work of non-fiction. These are not the crayon scribblings of some repressed, backwoods, barefoot, unenlightened Ellie Mae Clampett, but rather a girl who got her bachelor's at Princeton, her Masters at Harvard and did it without drinking the lesbians' -- I mean the feminists' -- Kool Aid.

This book is going to liberate ladies to be ladies; and contrary to the propaganda belched forth via our universities and MSM, there are a whole lot of lassies who:

1. Like being a woman, in a traditional sense. *I'll take a Katharine McPhee over a Hillary any day.

[...]

5. Look to their husband's to provide rather than looking to the feminists' sugar daddy, Uncle Sam.

[...]

7. Don't want their vagina turned into a sexual turnstile. Who don't want to be the village bicycle. Who see the benefits of serious sex verses casual sex. Who're not buying the Paris Hilton/Courtney Love/Madonna whore thing. Who can be sexy without being a skank. Who like to retain their respect and power and require a man to show some commitment before he gets to run the bases.

8. Want to get married to a man versus a career. Who still believe that being married to the right guy is good for the soul, the body, the pocket book and their sex life no matter what pop culture and the FCP's have tried to shame them in to believing.

9. Want to have a baby before half of their life is history. Who don't want to be in diapers when their child is. *BTW girls, the longer you wait the more difficult it's going to be to get pregnant. If you're waiting strategically 'til your mid 30's -- 40's well, uh ... good luck.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

What if I want to turn my vagina into a turnstile? It's my vagina. I'll turn it into a turnstile if I want. I charge admission into my vaginal turnstile. Not only is it a turnstile, it's a turnstile that leads to an amusement park with a carosel, a ferris wheel, and a house of horrors. My vagina turnstile even has one of those squirt gun races where you win a prize. That's how awesome my vagina turnstile is.

(WTF is a vaginal turnstile, exactly? What is he referring to? Is he making a generalization that all feminists have loose morals and give it up to anyone who asks? If that's his point, he's vastly mistaken. I'm pretty sure it's more about Equal Pay for Equal Work than it is about HEY LOOK AT MY VAGINA!)

Oh, and the reason for the history of the butch lesbian: Women couldn't get jobs for the longest time. The only jobs that would hire and pay well were union jobs. If you were a womanly-looking woman, you'd be put on the line doing cheap labor for less than half the pay of the male jobs. It was the butches who broke through into the unions and said "We can do these jobs, too!" It was the butches who said "We're just as good as men." When the rise of feminism in the seventies decided upon political lesbianism, the roles of butch/femme were scorned upon -- they were seen as based on the ownership relationship of man/woman. So the butch/femme tradition faded away for lack of acceptance. Not to say that there are not butches and femmes. Quite the opposite. There are plenty, but it's not the ONLY option anymore. Butch / femme traditions used to be the only choice for lesbians.

To answer his question of "Question: If feminists and lesbians hate men like they do, why do they try to look like us?"... Part of it is being true to the self. Part of it is getting equal footing and acceptance in society. And part of it is YOU'RE GENERALIZING AND YOU LOSE. Yes, the rise of lesbianism as politics came from the hatred of men. There was a point where women specifically chose to be lesbians in order to break away from the male dominated tradition. But, to say that lesbians hate men is ridiculous. As it is to say that feminists hate men. Some do, but not all.

I wouldn't want it turned into a sexual turnstile, because I wouldn't have anyplace to hold all the tokens without it really starting to hurt after a while, and that would make it very hard to go through metal detectors without a lot of explanations.

Your Correspondent has long had this view that the Zealots and True Believers of hyperconservatism are the kind who may unwittingly be playing doublethink to the point of latent hypocrisy.

As in, on the one hand, pushing the so-called "Traditional Values" agenda as one with National Identity and Salvation ... but, on the other hand, perhaps engaging in the same class of conduct they enjoy attacking, howbeit in camera more than anything.

That, and the prospect for their also being closet apologists for apartheid-era South Africa and their expecting the "morally superior" whites (especially those of Afrikaner derivation) to "serve national and racial honour" by increasing white birth rates through slogans like "Babies for Botha" and crude appeals to both national and racial "honour" while concurrently forcing the "inferior" blacks and "coloureds" (as the regime referred to those of mixed race) into sterilisation, abortions and contraception.

An angle as may deserve some looking into.

There's been a lot of talk about Ann Coulter's rather open-minded attitude towards what most people term "casual sex", so does Mr Giles have a different attitude towards some women, especially when they have a conservative (or neoconservative) bent?

Also, what would Giles think about the fact that Ann's apparent marriage to her "career"? I do wonder why it is that apparently for conservatives, it's impossible for a woman to have both a career and family yet it's expected that a man be able to balance both.

I think in this guy's mind "WOMYN" as he calls them are divided into two categories: men hating lesbians and whores; and womyn must be distinquished from women of course. Women can be found in his Clash church; and I'm sure the women of Clash are being taught the appropriate use for a vagina: their husband's pleasure and a birth canal that must be used before their in there mid thirties. I think I've got it now. But what about the women who don't have husbands to support them? I wonder what the reverend wants them to do for financial support?

of promiscuity with lesbianism is just really, really weird. I can think of three origins for this:

1)Thinks: Everything I don't approve of, whether it be having sex with everybody, NOT having sex with everybody, wanting to be a financial success, wanting to be on public aid) is just icky bad, and therefore the same thing: crimethink.

2)Thinks: They won't have sex with me, so they're loose. Or gay. Or losers. Or stuck-up. Aw man, who cares.

3)Watches The L Word a lot. With the sound off, because who needs to know what they're saying? Knows, just knows, it's true.

Looking at the points he mentions from the book, the book is a worthless piece of trash. My responses to the points above:

      1) I honestly say I have no idea who Katherine McPhee is - but the only "traditional" woman I know anymore is my mom - the rest of them are trying to get by either on their own or in a 2 income family b/c that's what it takes anymore 5) I don't know of ANY woman looking to Uncle Sam to be her sugar daddy - as for husbands to be sugar daddies? doesn't that just make her a ho? Besides, with median family income at $44000/yr, how many people can really support a family on that? Are these people that divorced from reality? Or on crack? 7) Last time I checked, I know of a few women who are or have been pretty promiscuous in their lives - but it doesn't stem from feminism - for most of them it's because of a misguided desire for acceptance, thinking that's the only way they'll get it - or just because they happen to like it - has absolutely nothing to do with 'feminism' either way - their life, their body, their decision - not my right to judge. 8) Hey, my wife and I would love to have kids, and she's married to me, and we both work to support our home. Could we realistically afford to have kids on one income? Maybe - if we were willing to give up just about every single thing we enjoy, and pay $800/month for health insurance in the process. 9) might have a very small point here - it IS more difficult for a woman to have children as she gets past 30 - well, unfortunately, most of us these days aren't in a position in life to support children until that point - unless, of course, our parents happen to be wealthy republicans who are willing to give us our inheritance early.

This guy, Giles, and this woman Lukas who wrote this stupid book need a serious reality check - they clearly do NOT live in the same world I do.

It's after 40. It's not until the 40s that the risk of birth defects shoots up, as well as miscarriages and multiple births. The thirties, you're still fertile and wonderful.

My question for this guy is this: My mother had seven children. Is she a bad person because she had two of them after the age of 40, and most of them in her 30s? I mean, she got married at 27 and had her first child around 27 or 28 and kept having them with a basic consistency until the onset of menopause. It's bad for a woman to wait until she's 30 to have kids, but wouldn't it be just as equally bad to have them in the 30s, following the same logic?

Or is it okay because she chose a husband over a career, a family over a job, two children with mental disabilites over helping the family make enough money to break above the poverty line?

and basically she's concerned about fertility issues as she gets older - I've heard that there is more difficulty in conception as women age - but, with that said, my mom was 33 when I was born, and 37 when my brother was born - but, my brother was born with Autism - he's 35 and lives with our mom and is developmentally disabled. He works a job through a work training program every day, and has for the past 13 years, but functions mentally at about a 9 or 10 year old level. He's a sweet, innocent person, but the actual cause of his autism is not known. But, it's liberal programs that have given him an opportunity. I'm one who doesn't have a lot of sympathy for those who are able bodied who bilk the system as a way of life, but I'm all for giving those who have temporarily fallen on hard times or are disabled a helping hand.

The older of the two also has Down Syndrome.

Yeah, late thirties is a time when fertility becomes an issue, but six of my parents seven children were conceived and delivered after she was 30. I was just saying she wasn't putting it off for a career. She was just waiting until she got married. She's a good, Roman Catholic woman who never used birth control because that's what she and my dad wanted.

Is it okay that she has babies in her thirties, or is she one of the non-sexual turnstile women? That's all.

Just skimmed the site and the mission statement says it all, he claims Clash is a non-traditional church, but the mission statement sounds pretty standard to me:

"For men, we embrace a masculine spirituality. We believe God created men to be men without apology. We believe that Biblical masculinity is necessary for the church to be the overcoming organism God intends for it to be. Therefore, we avoid the feminization of men and the spiritual emasculation of God’s rowdy warriors that usually accompanies most evangelical churches. We believe that a church of godly masculine warriors will embrace and nurture in women the strong feminine spirituality exemplified by the woman who fears the Lord in Proverbs 31. She excels in wisdom, commerce, creativity, and the care of her home, her family and those around her."

This man and I presume he is a man, is spouting all the reasons most women don't do as he bids them to do. 1. Women who work have a better life in terms of finances, healthcare options, credit histories, self-satisfaction, utilization of skills and education and some feeling of security.

      2. In today's work envirnoment, it is wise to have two incomes; not only to pay for the healthcare premiums, but to have an income when one of the partners is laid-off or fired.

      3. In today's working environment, a pension is a thing of the past. Two incomes are needed to to allow for savings. . .then there is the issues surrounding caring for aging parents while sending the kids off to college. The only pensions now days go to the thiefing executives who run the company into the ground and get everyone fired.

      4. Two incomes are needed today to buy what one income bought 40 years ago. Republican "economics". Raise prices by 4%, only give a 2.5-3.0% raise.

This Giles person really doesn't think much of women or even have a moderate amount of respect for all their contributions to society in general. We need fewer Giles and many MORE AL GORES, if this country is ever going to get back on track.
