MSNBC's Imus: "Maybe Dennis Kucinich could" replace al-Zarqawi
On MSNBC's Imus in the Morning, host Don Imus suggested "[Rep.] Dennis Kucinich [D-OH] could" replace Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq.
On the June 9 edition of MSNBC's Imus in the Morning, host Don Imus suggested that Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) could replace Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Co-host Charles McCord paraphrased Kucinich's response to Zarqawi's death, stating: "He [Kucinich] said Zarqawi was a small part of a growing anti-American insurgency, and that it is actually just time to get out." Imus declared that Kucinich "[j]ust got back from Neptune," and suggested Kucinich join "the circus." McCord continued, noting reports saying "it's unclear who will step forward to take Zarqawi's place in Iraq." Imus responded: "Maybe Dennis Kucinich could."
Kucinich issued a press release (reprinted here) June 8 detailing his reaction to Zarqawi's death:
"Mr. al-Zarqawi only represented a small portion of the large and growing anti-American insurgency in Iraq, so his killing is unlikely to end the violence in Iraq.
"According to a January 2005 estimate by Iraqi intelligence service director General Mohamed Abdullah Shahwani, Zarqawi's group is a mere sliver of the non-Baathist insurgency, while Baathists make up the majority of armed insurgents.
"The only way to end the daily attacks on US troops and innocent Iraqis is to end the war in Iraq and bring all our troops home in a quick and orderly manner."
From the June 9 edition of MSNBC's Imus in the Morning:
McCORD: And another "I[mus]" fav, Congressman Dennis Kucinich weighed in --
IMUS: Oh, God!
McCORD: --an Ohio Democrat --
IMUS: Just got back from Neptune.
McCORD: He said Zarqawi was a small part of a growing anti-American insurgency and that it is actually just time to get out.
IMUS: Hey, the circus is in town, Dennis! Go back and get in the Volkswagen!
McCORD: Officials in the Iraqi capital, bracing for the possibility of more trouble in the wake of the killing of Zarqawi. Interior Ministry banning cars and trucks from the streets of Baghdad today, also Baquba, in an attempt to prevent any repeat of yesterday's violence, which left more than 30 people dead. A Time magazine reporter in Baghdad says American forces should expect revenge attacks for the killing of al-Zarqawi.
[...]
McCORD: Reporter [inaudible] in the Baghdad bureau for Time magazine says Al Qaeda, at some point, will strike back and most likely strike back hard. He said it's unclear who will step forward to take Zarqawi's place in Iraq.
IMUS: Twelve minutes after the hour. Maybe Dennis Kucinich could.

BREAKING NEWS FROM BIG BROTHER!-Big brother today announces his whole-hearted support for Dom Imus(MSNBC and radio) and Fox-cable news.MSNBC WILL NOT BE ENDORSED BY BIG BROTHER AS LONG AS A CREATURE NAMED KEITH SOMETHING OR OTHER IS ON THAT NETWORK,NOR WILL YOUR RULER ENDORSE CNN-THAT CHRIANNE AMMOUNPOUR,OR SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS FOREIGN
IMUS is the enemy of both! Also NEVER
responsible for the rubbish that comes out of their mouth in the form of sentences ??? insane stuff. we found the enemy.........and it is us !!!!!
You may disagree with Kucinich's pie-in-the-sky politics. But only a dirtbag like Imus would consider a harmless (if misguided) man like Kucinich in league with al Qaeda.
This is what has become of our political discourse due to the loudmouth conservatives in the media. Just pick a name of somebody you don't like out of a hat and say "they're just like so-n-so". No logical though whatsoever, no reasoning, no argument. Just one poorly thought out knee jerk statement after another.
Said his was a Neo Con Skunk who should rot in jail like all the Neo Cons who started this idiotic war. Yet Media Matters doesnt mention this?
I guess its ok to spew hate toward the right but not the left.
Us Progressives need to be consistent, otherwise we lose all credibility. Imus is a clown , its not a news show, its entertainment.
No way. The Three Stooges were entertainment; this clown is simply still a juvenile, still trying to get attention by shocking adults with his bizarre antics. Perhaps he will grow up and express some useful opinions; perhaps not -- which seems more likely.
And with any luck, maybe Don Anus could replace Daniel Pearl . . .
Get over it. I am as anti-Administration on Iraq as anybody, but you have to recognize Imus' show for what it is; often over-the-top, often hilarious satire, mixed with serious interviews. So what if he isn't as liberal as you want him to be; you have to allow some room for disagreement or you're just like the wingnuts.
...as much as comedic unfunniness
If Imus told this joke on stage he'd get heckled.
"Yuck, yuck, maybe Kucinich should replace Zarqawi. Get it?"
Stick to mumbling Imus.
