Savage: CNN's Blitzer "would have let children into the gas chamber in order to stay alive an extra day"

July 25, 2006 5:01 pm ET

Accusing CNN host Wolf Blitzer of being anti-Semitic and anti-Jewish in his coverage of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Michael Savage declared that Blitzer is "the type who would have let children into the gas chamber in order to stay alive an extra day."

On the July 24 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, Michael Savage declared that CNN host Wolf Blitzer is "the type who would have let children into the gas chamber in order to stay alive an extra day." Savage accused Blitzer of being "anti-Semitic ... anti-Jewish, and pro-Arab" because he "doesn't want to appear too Jewish ... and too pro-Jewish." Savage also claimed Blitzer is "Israeli originally." Blitzer was born in Buffalo, New York, according to a September 7, 2005, article in The Hill. According to Blitzer's bio on CNN.com: "He began his career in 1972 with the Reuters News Agency in Tel Aviv. Shortly thereafter, he became a Washington, D.C., correspondent for The Jerusalem Post."

As Media Matters for America has noted, Savage previously stated that "it's people like" philanthropist George Soros "who brought about the Holocaust," and labeled former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright a "brisket maker."

From the July 24 edition of Talk Radio Network's The Savage Nation:

SAVAGE: Ohio, Josh, you're up on The Savage Nation. Go ahead, please.

CALLER: Michael, how does CNN get off making these Hezbollah, malicious -- I can't figure this out, they -- they they're making them seem like they're treating the Lebanese people right, just like any other warlord, from Colombians when that started. They're just like any other --

SAVAGE: Well Josh, we keep hearing from Wolf Blitzer, the greatest quisling in the media's history. You know, Wolf Blitzer's Israeli originally. Did you know that, Josh?

CALLER: Hey, any nationality doesn't bother me. I love --

SAVAGE: No, no, let me explain why Wolf Blitzer is so anti-Semitic. He doesn't want to appear too Jewish. And in order to make sure he doesn't look too Jewish, and too pro-Jewish, he becomes anti-Jewish, and pro-Arab. That's number one. That's Wolf Blitzer's entire zeitgeist. So he's the worst of the bunch. He's the type who would have let children into the gas chamber in order to stay alive an extra day, in my estimation. The little, bearded Wolfy boy.

Now I really know Savage is off his rocker when he goes out and starts railing against a right-leaning mainstream pundit in Wolf-Blitzer!

Ironic how the caller mentions the Colombian druglords, like the ones that receive U.S. military funding via the fascist Colombian government under the guise of the "war on drugs"?

but he is a raving lunatic.

How does what he said not make him a Bush supporter? He approves of everything the administration has done in the war on terror, and only wishes that the White House and Congress went to war with more countries and killed more Arabs.

support the president on the war. No argument there. But he does not support many of his policies. The Port deal, spending, and big goverment to mention a few. Take a listen if you can bear his ooooo sooo harsh words. You will find Weiner feels bush is more liberal then conservative.

is cause for greater concern. But then again, many dangerous conservative politicans feel the same as Weiner on the aforementioned issues. The big spending by Bush has been almost entirely on defense and homeland security (although Ron Suskind points out that DHS is just a big money pit that does little to protect America). Bush and the GOp Congress have drastically reduced federal spending in every other area of government, to the detriment of society.

I asked for one documented example of a liberal mouthpiece stooping to this level, your response is you have liberal friends who talk like that. Friends with no radio or tv audience. You are trying to make it sound like a "both sides do it" argument, yet are ignoring the fact that the right uses the airwaves to spread this filth across a large audience and that is totally unanswered in kind by the left.

are rabid right wingers who listen because Savage has launched a one-man mission to save America from its enemies at home and abroad, which on any given day includes liberals, gays, academics, the homeless, the Clintons, immigrants, feminists, CNN, the American Civil Liberties Union, Muslims and other minorities. All Bush has to do is throw a bone (stem cell veto, erase the line between church and state, etc) and they become temporarily ecstatic again.

Your continued stubborn use of the incredibly ignorant argument that we shouldnt worry about the deaths of innocent civilians because they MIGHT have possibly been evil reptilians from Venus or anything else they MIGHT have been is so stupid you should be embrarrassed. Try that with a judge, yeah I got drunk and ran over the nun but she MIGHT have been selling drugs. Yeah I beat that guy to death in the bar in a drunken brawl but he MIGHT have been a child molestor. I havent the SLIGHTEST bit of evidence this is true in fact the available evidence is that the whole idea is incredibly stupid but its my story and I am sticking to it. Here is the deal if YOU are claiming they ARE, which you need to do to use this defense its YOUR burden of proof to show this. Exactly how are you going to show that even the majority over 300 deaths we are talking about were terrorists or abetting them? What are the chances this is true? Those children killed what are the chances they are guilty according to your guilt-because-I-need-it-to-be-that-way appology. The concept is stupid. Singularity stupid. So stupid no cogent argument can possibly escape the gravity of its stupidity. The next cogent and reasonable argument you make will be your very first one. Perhaps you dont get it yet. There are some fairly bright, liberals here. IF you want to play in this league you really need to step up your game as of now you are simply embarassing yourself

They go after everybody as "liberal." I think they are just running out of people to attack, and they are getting tired of attacking the usual suspects, like the New York Times and Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw, so they are really getting desperate now. Its really sad and pathetic now. Their one-trick formula of getting ratings by attacking people as "liberal" is stale, so they need to freshen it up, that is another reason as well. If he thinks Wolf Blitzer is "liberal" and "pro-Arab" then he REALLY needs professional help IMMEDIATELY. Actually, he needed help for many years. Michael Savage was interviewed on CNN by Wolf Blitzer 3 or 4 years ago and he said he liked Blitzer, and at the end of the interview he even said "God Bless you Wolf." I still remember that. I never thought that Michael Savage would be attacking Wof Blitzer.

There are many wonderful, right minded, insightful and intelligent posters here that I enjoy immensely, but occasionally I have a surreal moment, often triggered by responses to a thread on the Savage Weiner. I listen to him for a short time, maybe once a week while driving, to hear his latest demented rap, and have NEVER heard a more disjointed, off the wall, fabricated, stream of consciousness pile of crap. If it's an act, it's brilliant, if it's not it's antisocial and, to agree with solon, psychotic.

The disconnect for me is that this pile of deviant pychobabbable is worthy of any notoriety at all, and that he's risen far enough out of the cesspool to warrant our comments. Sign o' the times I guess. If it weren't for big media consolidation, he'd be broadcasting from a cave in the Rockies to insomniacs and devout conspiracy theorists from midnight to 5AM.

Why bother listening to this creep Savage because he will never change his opinion. He has promoted is business as being a liberal hater and that is how he makes his money. Whether he believes this or not he will never say anything different as long as someone is sponsoring his show. The only way to defeat the right wing talk show hosts is to contact the sponsors of these shows and tell them you will not patronize their products. Then tell everyone else that that sponsor promotes hatred and untruthful rhetoric. Tell the sponsors that you will not support a business that promotes this kind of programing and that they are losing business. This is the only way to defeat them.

Advertisers are only interested in the bottom line. Advertisers are not interested in being held accountable for the views of the shows that they sponsor.

The irony is that Savage is the one who has forgotten his roots. His ethnicity is well-guarded. He holds himslef out as a Christian in order not to alienate his overwhelmingly Christian audience. Consider the following exchange on the "The O'Reilly Factor":

O'REILLY: I don't see it quite the way you do, but I'll get to that in a minute. Now, you're not a church going guy. That was another thing that caught my ear as I was riding around. SAVAGE: Not at all. O'REILLY: You don't go to church. You're not a real strong God guy. So why are you so... SAVAGE: Wait, wait. No, no. Bill -- Bill -- Bill, I'm a very strong God-believing man. I just don't go to houses of worship, except maybe once or twice a year, because whether you -- well, whether people accept it or not, I am in touch with God all day long. O'REILLY: All right. That's fine. That's your belief. SAVAGE: I talk to God.... [link to www.foxnews.com]

If O'Reilly does not know that Savage is Jewish, it cannot be widely known. Notice how Weiner did not correct O'Reilly's misapprehension by stating that he is a Jew. Moroever, Weiner cleverly uses the phrase "houses of worship" and not "synagogue" in order to perpetuate the mistake.

Hey guys, Savage/Weiner's not a total nut job - he's an opportunist who saw a chance to make a buck, and uses - just like Coulter - outrageous statements to get the lowest common denominator all riled up. You only need half a million people to buy a $20 book to make loads of cash. I think the way he makes his money is reprehensible, but these clowns are sociopaths because they have no qualms about using hate speech to make a buck. I don't even get pissed about the lies anymore - I just arm myself with the facts. The next time one of your con friends tells you that Blitzer is Isreali, just say "Bulls**t - where did you hear that crap???- he was born in Buffalo, NY "

Well if I were Wolf B. I'd be all over this but alas, he's not, so why should we care. That's the problem-MMA all lets this stuff get worse and worse. I would like to see/hear Wolf's explanation of why he says nothing.

Here we have a guy, Michael Weiner, who has already taken the initial step of abandoning his "too Jewish" last name in favor of a pseudonym that is of Christian, specifically Norman, origin. Something tells me he's far more likely to try to "pass" as non-Jewish than Wolf Blitzer, or indeed, virtually anyone else.

BTW nice job on the tough sounding name, wingnut - turns out the Normans were French!

He didn't even answer the caller's question. Instead, he went off on an insane rant about Wolf Blitzer. This is a tactic often used by right-wing radio personalities like "Savage," Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Boortz. A caller asks a question, and the host just goes off on a totally unrelated tangent. Do their callers and listeners never notice this? Whenever I listen to these right-wing birdbrains, it's the first thing that jumps out...their answers usually have no relationship to the original question. And yet the callers seem satisfied. Amazing. Even more often, the host will attack the caller, calling them names and accusing them of being a "liberal plant," which is patently ridiculous on its face. Yet people continue to listen to them and call them. Just amazing!

Why these people who claim to represent the current political atmosphere in this country are allowed to continue is beyond me. There must be more dumb people in this country than I thought (or the talking heads are dumbing us down).

Calling each other names accomplishes nothing. Savage is just trying to stir the pot, though if this is what's passing for social discourse in this country, it's time to move. It's not long before America goes the way of the Roman Empire anyway - we're playing right into the hands of radical Islam. We can't beat them - they do what they do in the name of religion & God, just like the Christians did in the Crusades. Until doing irrational things in the name of religion goes the way of other silly superstitions, this world will never be able to move forward. Sad ... As soon as America becomes a theocracy, us logical thinkers are done for.

Does anyone ever wonder if God second guesses his decision to give us a second chance....? Does anyone ever wonder if he asks himself "What was I thinking?"

What is wrong with Savage? Seriously, who says things like this? This guy needs to be fired, and right away. This sort of rhetoric is not only viscious, it's borderline criminal - nothing short of slanderous. I don't care what your views are, to basically call someone the type of person who would essentially murder a child has no place in legit media.

I really want to buy from a sponser that pays someone to say things like this.

I really want my product associated with the rantings of a lunatic.

I want people to remember the gas chamber comment when they go to the store and pick up my product..

      Oh yeah....
