Fox's Buttner: "Thank God and thank President Bush" that there haven't been terror attacks inside the U.S. "despite the opposition of some very misled people"
During a discussion of how the recent attack on the U.S. Embassy in Syria will affect the stock market, on the September 12 edition of Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto, Fox News senior business correspondent Brenda Buttner asserted that "Wall Street is very insular" and "the market's going to go down" if a terror attack occurs in the United States. Buttner then claimed: "Thank God and thank President Bush it hasn't happened here yet," adding that "they've [terrorists] been trying and President Bush has been trying to stop them despite the opposition of some very misled people." Fox News touts Your World as "the No.1 business news show on cable."
From the September 12 edition of Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto:
NEIL CAVUTO (host): Brenda?
BUTTNER: These despicable militants are trying to hit us over there. They're trying to do it over here. They just haven't been -- been successful today. Just as [Fortune magazine senior writer] Adam [Lashinsky] said, they will try to do it again tomorrow; and Wall Street is very insular -- they don't see anything except what's right in front of their face. And if it happens here, the market's going to go down. Thank God and thank President Bush it hasn't happened here yet. But they've been trying and President Bush has been trying to stop them despite the opposition of some very misled people.

How dare she say something as partisan and foolish as this? If this comment does not PROVE that FAUX is in the hands of the Bush administration and is being used by the Bush Administration as its propaganda communication tool I dont know what other proof is needed.
As a conservative, who only now and then samples these cable news outlets, because too much of it is stomach churning - I can say with a fair amount of certainty that Fox News is decidedly in the pocket of the Republican party, headed by Bush.
No further proof required, you are correct.
her statement was not in the least tiny bit political. It was purely facts and evidence presented to bolster her economic theory. It wasn't meant at all to be patronizing to the average business program audience or to express her personal political opinion, and to suggest otherwise indicates that you have a strong political bias clouding your judgement.
Though I was confused at first by her redundancy, separating God and Bush as if they were two different entities. Perhaps it was sarcasm directed at non-believers/Bush haters? Bravo, that being the case. The innate sense of humor so ubiquitous in the conservative mind is sometimes hard to suppress, and finds its way out in the most unexpected times.
We don't take much kindly to french titles in the comment, unless they refer to them there ticklers, then that's OK. I know you're tryin' to compliment the nice lady, but I think I detect a note of sarcasm. As the man said: "That don't play in Idaho."
"Though I was confused at first by her redundancy, separating God and Bush as if they were two different entities"
The above quote was said by you!! Was this a mistype??
If you believe that this line is in any way true, it certainly shows your lack of intellect at a minimum or your lack of hold on reality at the maximum
If it was a mistype.......I'll appologize now!!
But you have to admit that this line deserves quite a bit of scrutiny for what you write!
I'm pretty sure it was a joke.
use President Bush in the same context as Lord God Almighty? Was that meant to be a parallel? Isn't that blasphemous?
that Bush took care of the duties that God was unable to handle on His own.
Nothing blaspehmous about that.
"Did Brenda just use President Bush in the same context as Lord God Almighty? Was that meant to be a parallel? Isn't that blasphemous?"
Don't you know Bush is Jesus' right-hand on Earth?
I mean to many righties, Bush might as well stroll the White House in a white robe, sandals, and a powder-blue sash while laying-on hands to lepers.
Haven't you heard of the "holy quadrinity"? father, son, boob, and holy spirit.
Just saw the first ad for the new FOX channel....FOX Faith. They're going to show "inspirational Christian" movies to America. You can bet it will be pure Crusader propaganda. Rupert Murdoch strikes again. He apparently wants us in a theocratic dictatorship.
Rupert Murdoch isn't American........he's Australian (nothing wrong with that, in fact I love Australia and Murdoch certainly doesn't represent that country!).....but he is a foreigner none the less.........
I thought foreigners are all bad.....or so it seems everytime right-wing flappers speak.......
Oh wait.......it's only a problem if those foreigners do things that are against the narrow definition of what's American (at least by conservative standards)....
And what do neo-cons do?? They help allow a foreigner to destroy and demantle our democracy.....via FOX!! And the repukelicons!
Hmmmm.........
Sept. 11 was followed by the eight anthrax attacks. Does Buttner know this? The Fox Entertainment News Channel is getting more delusional by the day.
Because the terrorists were too busy planning the attacks in Madrid, London bus/subway bombings and the plot to blow up European aircraft heading to the US. Duh!
Bush's (and his groupies') inability to connect at all to the terrorist attacks in other parts of the world is not only selfish but cruel.
There's a fifty on the dresser for you on your way out.
I'll be your Polo anyday!
God and Bush... working together to keep the stock market strong.
Should we all pray to God and Bush for forgiveness for being "misled" astray? Hallelujia... please protect our investments.
This woman blew any possible credibility she had as a business reporter. "Senior Business Correspondent?' Yeah whatever. The right is self-destructing, thank God and thank President Bush for that too.
High School Senior Business Correspondent
"I missed last night's show, but I can't wait to see what Jon Stewart does with this clip. . ."
---" ... thank President Bush it hasn't happened here yet. "
The "Global" number of terrorist attacks is way way up. And last time I checked, the Terror Alert Level here was not blue or green.
I take issue with that characterization. Much more appropriate would be "tragically misled." As in, "told there were connections and weapons when there weren't" kind of misled.
was President and God was his consultant when we were attacked here on Sept. 11
it's in the bible......or maybe rush limbaugh said it. something like that.
"Thank God and thank President Bush"
Buttner managed to thank two non-entities at the same time.
It may be unfair to blame Bush for 9/11, but if God were inclined to protect us from turrists, why didn't He stop the 9/11 attacks?
God was punishing us for homosexuality?
Maybe God was mad at policemen, firemen and stockbrokers. That's just as plausible as some of the other crap I've heard from the folks who've said 9/11 was some form of divine retribution for our evil ways.
had strained relations with God so badly, He had to let 9/11 happen in a little Supreme Being hissy fit.
It has to be Clinton's fault somehow.
Well, you know, God has been known to throw a temper tantrum now and then. Look at that whole flood thing....yeesh.
One has to wonder, though, if He was mad about our not hating Gays enough, it looks like one of the planes would have crashed into a San Fransisco gay bar or something...'tis a puzzlement.
Only an apologist and one who has drank too much from the Neo-con well would be able to say what she did and not laugh. We already know since the Iraq invasion that terrorism has gone up dramatically.
It's ok Brenda we know facts don't matter to nutty RWA's like you.
I didn't see Ms Buttner (Is this her real name?) wearing a US flag lapel pin.
One can only conclude that she hates America. Why, Ms Buttner do you hate America?
She hates our freedom to criticize our beloved Prsident, George W. Bush.
the lessons of July the 4th
Have a July 3rd mindset.
ought to use that one - that would be classic.
nobody but nobody opposes stopping terrorism.
If the Dems take the House back and impeach Bush, can we thank God for that?
Thank Nancy Pelosi.
What Buttner siad was wtong on a number of different levels. So let me start by quoting Robert Dreyfuss, who has a piece out in the Sept. 21st issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, refuting this whole concept of a "War on Terror":
"A strong and convincing case that the al-Qaida bogeyman is inflated far beyond the real but limited threat that it poses is made in the current issue of Foreign Affairs, in an article by political scientist John Mueller. He and others argue persuasively that the reason the United States has not been attacked since 9/11 is that terrorists are far less powerful than the White House claims. 'If al Qaeda operatives are as determined and inventive as assumed, they should be here by now. If they are not yet here, they must not be trying very hard or must be far less dedicated, diabolical, and competent than the common image would suggest,' writes Mueller."
So for what reason(s) is Buttner glad that GW is president? Is it that he has kept America safe from an omnipotent international terrorist network (false), or that he has destroyed it altogether? The White House likes to claim both, but neither is the case. In reality, Al-Qaeda was never very strong to begin with and had few allies in the Middle East, chief among them Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Two nations bitterly opposed to Al-Qaeda's extremism were Iraq and Iran, yet these two countries are in the U.S.'s crosshairs.
What has the Iraq War have to do with fighting terrorism. Hate, war, and death -- that's the GOP.
You guys are hilarious in this thread.
All I can do is applaud!
Hoo-rah!!
God, President Bush, and Brenda Buttner:
Your ACTION Team!
Just before it tanks.
Thank you for your obedience.
that a "SR BUSINESS CORRESPONDENT" would have some previous and current knowledge of economics, the stock market, investing, etc.
That said... would you trust this woman with your 401k?
Would you trust anyone at FOX with anything?
That said... would you trust this woman with your 401k?
I wouldn't trust this woman to make correct change.
It's all so sad isn't? Looks like most on the right have taken enough rope to finally hang themselves. As the old saying goes what comes around goes around.
...in America. I would be willing to make a wager that the rest of the World Leaders just cringe when our President lets everyone know that the bad guys have attacked "US". If he is leading a Global War on Terrorism, it is not going so good. But the Cons thank God everyday that other people get killed by those terroists. Did she really mean to say missled people such as family members of dead kids in Iraq? They were missled by the coalition of the giddy and now they have their own coalition. George, please talk to God again methinks you misheard Him. And Ms. Butterbutt, grow up.
Now that we are asked to say "The Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost and ... George", it somehow doesn't have a ring to it.
Geez Brenda what stocks do you think God is buying these days? Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, of course a few shares of Raytheon would be in order.
Yes God is very happy with George, sending him all that business, Iraq and New Orleans and all.
George and brother Neil have always been blessed when it comes to their business dealings.
“Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition”
I wonder if Ms. Buttner would still like to thank Mr Bush since terrorist acts have increased threefold worldwide since the 9/11. ....
....if anything we have to be on our toes 24/7/365 because of credibility lost globally....
....oh, and one other point....about those 2800 lives lost in Iraq.....is that the kind of feather in her cap she's referring to.
Sorry folks, but Georgey didn't hear God talking to him. He just hears voices in his head. They talk to him all the time. He assumes those voices are from his version of a "higher power". If this were the 70's, I think it would be time for the white coats and the funny farm for certain chimps. Lucky for Georgey, our knowledge regarding mental illness has skyrocketted since the 70's, due to high volume in stem cell research. . .oops, sorry Georgey. Go ahead, keep counting your sheep. You're going to need a few more "bottles a Jack" to count, though, see. . . your numbers are dwindling.
